I would argue that a lot of Indie games with AAA status would be just as successful. Especially when you look at what a lot of developers are trying to create. Big budget games tend to be produced by committee. That is, you have a group of people making decisions about what goes in the game and how it is made. Because there are so many different viewpoints a lot of compromises tend to be made. Also, the focus is usually on making money.

A small team is more likely to be in it because they are passionate. They tend to have a vision for what the game should be and there are few enough people that that visions stays clear, and isn't diluted by shit like microtransactions and feature bloat.

Of course indie games can be, and often are, shit.

Having the space part with more variety, like planets, asteroid fields, space graveyard, big asteroid with military/colony bases inside of them, that type of space fantasy.
Be able to land on planets, Survival gameplay allowing you to build a base on planet or maybe even on an asteroid on space.
Be able to upgrade/change parts of your ship that actually changes the ship model when you replace parts instead of just keeping the base model.
Allow you to play the game the way you want, Space Pirate? Trader doing trade routes? Freelancer Pilot?
Salvaging broken ships on planet or maybe even ship you find on space by "towing" them to a base or something to dismantle it for parts.

Yep. Password manager is also useful for having individual different passwords so if they get one they can't get everything else (if done right) but gotta make sure you don't use the master password...

Best I can suggest then is to possibly reinstall, and I don't have details but I think you should be able to remove most of the config files except for the world and character save files and it will rebuild them when you restart. That might be a step to take. Any chance you did any kind of "FPS optimization" tricks with the config files like there have been some guides floating around for?
