-# I don' t know if this was asked before, i couldnt find it
Adding in that holding shift and using scroll wheel up/down will increase/decrease the drone cam's movement speed.
Space engineers does this and I find it quite useful, as it lets you be really precise when you need it and travel large distances when you need it.
There isn't even a UI for it, just move to know how fast you move.
#Scroll to change drone (F2) view speed

If the drones fast it defeats the purpose of building transport
Correct
If the drone was too fast we believe it would completely kill the immersion of the game and the sense of scale.
Will not do.
Why not just give it a top speed?
like 10x to 50x running speed. Just to help ease making large vehicles without being a replacement for airplanes and rockets.
Just do it for creative exclusively?
Would likely still ruin the effect.
I just want the ability to work on massive vehicles without needing to wait a solid 15-30 seconds to travel to the other side just to plug 1 wire in.
Not a "hey whats that over there?" NYYOOOOOMMM "Oh cool"
I get it that SE does that so maybe my original post gave the wrong idea.
Being able to build from a cockpit seat could help
But then you don't have noclip
I frankly don't see any reason to not do it exactly like SE does it
What's the issue with being able to go fast in creative
It's creative, that's kinda the point
To just check things out without having to deal without all the hurdles of survival
Sitting in a seat and pressing F2 to have a drone view that moves fast but is locked to a certain distance from the vehicle would also be viable.
say you cant move further then 10 meters from the vehicle bounding box
That sounds very annoying if anything
Going fast with the drone in Archean would be like a cheat code.
Usually the day you start using cheat codes in a game is your last day on that game. It just completely kills it.
If you’re building a giant ship, even in creative mode, if you can move very fast around it to build it you lose the sense of scale. If you lose the sense of scale you also lose the sense of accomplishment of having built that giant thing.
I don't think you do
KSP has cheats
You can turn off fuel consumption and teleport to any planet you want at any time
Doesn't make landing there legit feel any less rewarding
Cheats are a good convenience tool
There's a reason they exist
Especially in sandbox games
what makes Archean stand out compared to KSP (besides the fact you have to write your own complex logic for control systems), is the immersion of first person in full scale Real Time / no time warp.
that loses all its value when you can move very fast with your player.
it adds so much gameplay if you have to use a rover to drive from one side of your giant ship to the other to build it.
Now in terms of creative mode, again what's the point of building something gigantic if you don't feel like it's big while building it?
In Archean, building the thing should be the fun part where you spend most the time, and it must be immersive.
I fear the sense of scale would just completely die if we can go faster in drone mode.
That being said, we still need to figure a more immersive/realistic way to use the drone for adventure/survival... maybe we'll change the drone mode for an actual separate drone where you disconnect from the avatar (instead of switching) and that can go a bit faster but limited in range from where you left the avatar... maybe a few kilometers... will need to figure this out.
Holding W for half a minute just to get from one end to the other is not what i'd count as fun
no but getting in a rover and driving around is
Also, i would love to have a proper cheat menu
For teleporting and setting orbit and the like
Adventure/survival, sure
I see no reason for such limits in creative
I'll think about it
Immersion is cool n all
But i and many others are here to build things
So 2 things:
1 i did think of using a car, and
A. I assumed entering a vehicle would reset the cable spool which would stop you from building massively long cables (I was wrong, Thank you devs)
B. I'd end up forgetting the car on one side of the ship. More of a me issue but figured i'd mention it.
But the actual issue, is that the car is very bouncy,
- Could someone just make a mod? Im not just talking the devs here, im talking just someone who's really dedicated.
I didnt check the SDK but would it be possible?
Cause i do agree that travelling fast ruins the scale of the game. I remember playing KSP and using rockets to fly to the north pole instead of air plane. I did use a plane once, never again.
But if the players have to go to the workshop to get this feature, then at that point, they ruin their own fun.
I’ll throw in my two cents here
