#Seated Computer Terminal

absolutely like this idea
agreed
bump
Without mentioning the technical difficulty, it would be mainly about finding a good intuitive and ergonomic method to implement it
The idea of a dedicated seat is a problem because we could not use the R key to exit the seat like the pilot seat does. So if in addition the player has to start memorizing shortcuts for components that are 98% similar, it's inconsistent and annoying...
In short, for now, we have no idea how to implement that properly
Well, you could just leave the key as is, and make the player assign a custom one if they realy need to, that then works for everything. Would fix the problem if I'm not stupid
It is a band-aid solution, it is not a solid solution
If a player needs to change a key to take advantage of all the game's features, from then on, that's a problem. The game must be fully playable, right out of the box.
Yes, but then you will basically never have anything like that, except you sell a purpose-built keyboard with a single key more. You have to make compromises, else Archean will basically not progress(imo)
Could just leave exit key as is, and exclude it from terminal's possible keybinds
Imo, a better solution would be to allow adding extra keys as needed to the regular seat, instead of exposing every single key on keyboard as it's own channel in a separate block
It is not because I do not find a solution in 20 minutes that I am not going to find one in 2 weeks ^^
After, it is not an absolute priority for now
In the ideal situation, I would really like a solution that does not even require a dedicated seat
What if you want to make the player able to type something using a keyboard? That's gonna be difficult and annoying
Realistically, most people do not need the whole keyboard in a pilot seat
Something something compromises
b-b-b-b-b-bbut then making a keyboard is gonna be super annoying if you make one
I love keyboards
Or, you could make the key selection menu be like, an actual keyboard image, and you just rectangle select the keys you want
But that sounds like a UI nightmare to do, and not worth the effort for the very few people who want the whole keyboard
