Heyo! Im a music producer and have been playing this game for around 50 hours or so and love it! I really love the whole concept of the game, but think it could use alittle bit of music 😊. I have a ton of producer friends that would probabaly hop on board for this too. Just let me know!

I'm very much looking forward to sounds design, in general.

There will be a "sound update" at some point to improve the entire audio aspect of the game as well as realism (underwater, in space, etc.).

However, we are not sure about adding "music" since Archean's philosophy is against this principle.

Interesting

#

Could open up a challenge of music that isnt music haha

cosmic hull
#

perhaps in-game "satellite feeds" might help justify it's existence

I mean I guess it could just be easily modded in

#

but ngl I think some atmospheric tracks playing would be nice

maybe even like line of site communication

I’d be down to throw down some guitar riffs for a station

I use Fl studio

#

yeah and it depends what kinda audio interface you have

#

I use the volt 2 and it handles latency pretty well

marble cave
#

I use a digital effects pedal and it goes into my pc via usb, I used to have a scarlet 2i2 and it def wasn’t as fast as this

indigo kernel
#

yeah i used to use a 2i2 and thats the main reason i switched

indigo kernel
#

makes sense tho to not add music given the philosophy

id need to mix it for sure but just a concept

The first few hours are a big learning curve, so it might help to promote new players to keep learning and playing 😛

I think people sometimes underestimate the importance of sound design. I'm glad to hear a sound update is planned. Music or the ability to stream our own into the game would be a chef's kiss.

If we can expand it to process some kind of stringified version of midi or something along those lines, then it could ostensibly play a midi channel per noteblock or something, with a sampling frequency of 25 hz... which kind of sucks, but doesn't rule out all music

maybe but: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqO13XuHJIE this music is almost a surreal magical moment to everyone who ever played KSP and succesfully got a rocket into space.
It's the song that plays when you get the craft into space. Which at first is a monumental achievement.

It is a horrible mistake and nothing could convince me otherwise, not to have music in Archean. And the example? That's completely royalty free music. So.. yeah. it can have profound impact.

Music from Zelda, Mass Effect, heck even a small indie space game Interesllar rift (specifically sentinel security systems) has some music that I still sometimes hear and that instills memories of playiong that game. It plays on the imagination, and the experience is deepened, widened. Or Minecraft.

Why doesn't Archean deserve that? Especially if the mountains have their own theme song thats sometimes play, likewise the oceans.. Space, high atmo..

It may not be a priority to you right now, but it shouldn't just be shrugged off as something unimportant.

I just stumbled on this.
An idea that came to mind immediately is to have a settings in the game that lets you put your own music for different locations. So the player makes their own music folder for Space, ground, high speed travelling, etc. and if a music folder is empty it simply keeps playing whatever was playing before.
With the settings menu informing players "We are not sure about adding "music" since Archean's philosophy is against this principle." but still giving them free will.
Then the community could pick or make music for the game that would become the "Unofficial default"

Letting the players know why it was made this way, but also letting them customize.
Because music is one of those things where players will add it themselves. There's a lot of games where I mute in game music and simply lisent to my own. With Archeon having none, then playing your own music is just common sense.

I enjoy the KSP space music, but tbh, Roller Coaster Tycoon "Space Style" also sells the space atmosphere really well

What if we do user submitted albums to add into the game

#

and it updates every now and then

#

kinda keeping with the creation aspect of the game

#

and we do like music votes or something

marble cave
#

Yea maybe like music that could come default in a stereo block

#

Idk how many musicians are here lol

#

It’s all engineers coders and people who play stormworks

#

I was thinking putting it in a settings menu. Since I'm guessing the devs aren't 100% on putting music in. Though a stereo block would also be cool.

#

Yea, being able to chill with music is fun in games

#

Example; the long drive has a radio station, none of us know the songs and it’s in a Slavic sounding language but it’s still fun and enjoyable to tune in and drive for a few hours

indigo kernel
#

yeah a stereo block would be sick

#

that has different radio stations or something

#

kinda like gta

I could imagine this game having an ambient sort of soundtrack, similar to Minecraft... in fact, the story is quite similar so far. Creative mode first, on a blank open world

#

Oh and it came out on the 16th of May, Minecraft released on 17 May 2009 (my birthday too, I'm not kidding, exact same day and birth year)

#

Would be neat though to have a way of making the music and being able to carry around the radio to play your own compositions, imagine it as No Man's Sky's bitebeat system. You can make your own music in-game and play them on the go, then in a similar fashion as to Satisfactory you have to have it on hand or near you to hear the music

#

I wish i could say drop pods where you can find discs, imagine old Minecraft dungeons, but no. It doesn't make sense, of course

I usually have 'Post-apocalyptic ambient' music running on YouTube in the background. "Eclipsin" has a good vibe. 😎

dusky galleon
#

Post-apocalypse music in a pre-world world

#

But yeah i see how that fits

#

you know, a variety of MIDI tracks would go real good with a boombox component, and it'd be in spirit of the game as then you could maybe modify how they're played in a tracker interface
