I'm getting an error where the username prorandomizer768 has never been /seen before, even though they are currently online. Yes, I'm spelling everything correctly, which is why I have no idea why the issue is occurring.

If you get a chance would you be able to test on 1.19.4 (take a backup as with any MC upgrade), and if that doesn't solve the issue try using Paper?
There have been a couple reports of userdata issues on 2.20.0 but it's hard to verify them with unsupported server software

I'm aware, and I'm also aware of reports of player profile issues specifically on Purpur that went away on Paper, hence why I asked OP to try Paper. That way we can investigate and potentially report issues upstream to Purpur if they turn out to be the cause.
Either way, OP hasn't replied in over two weeks since I asked, no need to keep bumping this thread now.

i got the same issue since i upgrade from 1.19.3 to 1.20.1 (Paper)
all commands that include playername don't work (like mail send) but with uuid it works fine
i also tried with the newest dev builds of essentialsx but didnt help either.
