I could use some. I am playing mostly random role selection, since I am learning all roles. I have 2-3 characters unlocked at around levels 2-6 for each position.
Currently I sit at silver III - II, where I have 2 - 4 wins, then 2-5 or more losses etc. Each win gives +23, each loss gives -23. So obviously on average I am stuck. My priority is not to raise the rank, but to figure out what I am missing and how to improve. Mostly: How to figure out what am I missing.

What’s your most preferred role ?
Also try to learn the roles one at the time and not at once.
I’d say you’re stuck because of general game knowledge
Support -> Carry -> Off lane = Mid -> Jungle.
What do you mean "general game knowledge" ?
Also I can't really focus on one or two roles. Its almost impossible to always get the roles you want.
I get my roles 9/10 times.
Basically what I mean is that you don’t know how to carry games.
You like support, but they are unlikely to carry games. However they can be very useful and effective, if the team plays correctly with them.
You also need a lot of chemistry with your adc. Also quite unlikely if you’re playing alone.
If you’re good at hitting abilities, stay in midlane.
Lock in Howie or Gideon. These two are excellent at winning lanes and 1v1s. They have fast rotations and are incredible hard to gank.
Also another good thing about midlane is that you will understand timers, rotations to lanes, and to objectives better, which will make you automatically a better player.
If you want to rank up, you need to carry games and you do that by winning your lane, the pit fight and generally having an understanding when you can actually finish the game.
Most players make a bad call at the end, the game ends up extending and it’s back at a 50/50 at minute 40 or so.
ADC, MID, JNG are best roles for carrying.
Start with midlane.
There are some really nice content creators on YT if you want to dive deep into the role
Like properclean for jng
Stsbutters for solo
Crazyfool for support.
Pinzo for midlane
I don’t know any high level adcs unfortunately that do videos.
You could check neft, he’s on twitch though.
Pre requisit : you actualy wanna get better, you have at least a little bit of a understanding about mobas, you have 2 hands
Here some general tips :
-
if you play on controller, use the aim acceleration feature to turn around super quick + get a controller with backpeddals and set the backpeddals for all your abilities so you dont have to take your fingers away from the sticks to use abilities
-
ignore Matchmaking and teammates, everything that dosent boost your chance of winning shoult be ignored as well as stuff that you cant change. stay calm
-
make sure you keep in mind the 40/40/20 rule of mobas. 40% of Games are Wins regardless of you, 40% are lost regardless of how yood you are, 20% depend on you
-
if you think youll lose a lane, lose it gracefully! you dont win games in lane, you win it at 25min at an obj.fight. accept losing cs, accept just beeing afk in lane, use lane management to keep the minions in a good spot for you, if you end up 0-0 with 30 cs down and same lvl when teamfight season starts the game is winnable. this is especialy true if you play vs ranged in offlane ( enemy team will suffer in teamfights cause of teamcomp as long as you dont get rolled in lane) IN SHORT : be carrieable !
-
if you see your jungler is about to gank a lane force the fight with the enemy laner ahead of the gank, this makes it harder to spot the gank for the enemy player and he might waste his CD too early (i dont see low lvl players doing this like ever)
-
if your jungler, dont gank losing lanes, most of the time a kill dosent swing a game! if your teammate is outskilled, that wont change cause of a gank
-
if your jungler find enemy weakspots, enemy offlaner is dogshit ? use that! gank his ass, ruin his game even more, steal enemy jungle on enemy offlane side with the help of your offlaner, sometimes you can bully people into afking
if you want more let me know
Thanks both for the great advice, I will follow it.
Also; isn't there an "optimal" timing for doing things in general? As in "do Fangtooth at 5 - 6 min mark"? If so where could I read up on them? It would help a lot if I knew (give or take) when is best to do Shaper, Mini prime, and other stuff.
Also, what I also need to pin down, is when to actually rotate, and when to actually teleport back to base to buy equipment. I feel there should also be an optimal way. I saw something like the lvl2 "cheat" recall where you crush the wave on T1 and recall fast with the first tier 2 item etc.
Also, why so many "support" players steal CS, like 90% of the time. How the hell am I supposed to counter, my own support stealing creeps from me?
this one is tough, you can't really. But if you are in a lobby where they are doing that, the enemy team is likely awful and you don't need the gold advantage to clean up a teamfight if you play your cooldowns correctly
you can also go a farm heavy build to clear waves fast and pull from jungle if need be - scattershot+ the blue stormbow
that build will work until at least gold, and then they will stop stealing your minions
It's better to be too aggressive and slowly learn to play safer than the other way around. Duo doesn't know how to deal with aggression until diamond or so. So you can W key people, playing around your cooldowns, and win most games all the way into plat pretty easily
don't be afraid to see what you can get away with 😄
What do you mean "W key people"?
“W” is the move forward key for keyboard mouse players
He’s saying you can just skill diff the enemy in those lobbies by walking at them and hitting your shots
Twin blast does this a lot ...
Best time is as soon as you can do it without giving up too many resources themselfs
Theres no do feng at 7 min cause its best
Does your duo have prio ?
Does your mid have prio ?
Do you have big hunt and enemy small ?
Can your offlane rotate to feng ?
