#Countering Jungle Kallari

I've been playing with a 4/5-stack lately, and we've been consistently struggling to play around Kallari, particularly when played in the jungle. She always seems to have a way of getting successful ganks and building up an early lead through this. I'm the team's main jungler (I like rampage, Grux, Khaimera), so I'm always trying to track where she might be next so I can countergank, invade, etc. I've had some success, but she's still a "problem character" despite the adaptations I've made thus far.

I'm opening this forum to hold some discussion on playstyles that counter Kallari. What are strong wards for tracking her movement through the jungle? Is counterjungling/ invading a consistent way to challenge her in the early game? How do I stop a Kallari from snowballing with an early lead?

Any advice is appreciated- thanks from my whole team!

I think Brimstone would be a good counter because you can see/hear the DOT damage tick off of her if she gets close.

Heya - I'm normally playing as that Kallari on the other team - sorry 😛 But Kallari has pros and cons too so here's some thoughts from the other side of the coin.

Given that Kallari is an assassin with an excellent suite of ganking tools, I think it's pretty reasonable to expect that she will be able to score more successful ganks on average during the early/mid game. Assuming you are playing a tanky jungle like Rampage, a lot of your power comes from your tankiness, which really shines when the team-fighting starts.

As a Kallari, I really don't like tanks. Particularly tanks with CC. I can unleash a combo but tanks will normally kill me before I can kill them in a prolonged fight since Kallari is fairly squishy (Rampage is the worst). I'm far more interested in the squishy targets who I can kill. But that's where tanks/bruisers can be a problem. If I start to engage on their carry in a teamfight for example, but I get a bolder to my face, Grux stuns me, or anything else, I'll typically die very quickly.

So, in terms of playstyles, I recommend playing as a bodyguard from mid-game onwards. Stay with your squishes and be as quick to peel as possible to make my life a literal nightmare. Doesn't really matter too much if the Kallari is ahead if they are locked down with abilities (also why I don't like playing against Fey).

Tank items such as Stonewall give immediate CC if the you go below 40% HP - that's a horrible to play in to as an assassin!

During the early game, gank and counter-gank as much as is reasonable, but don't fret too much about the Kallari. Try to focus on maintaining really strong farm so that when the mid-game comes around, you are an unstoppable wall which will protect your team. If the Kallari has all the kills, it's not such a bad thing if you shut them down first in the fight.

Also, wards! The natural enemy of Kallari's invisibility. You could consider keeping your regulars vision wards to help your team track the Kallari.

Isn’t there an item that freezes and makes you invuln for like 2-3 seconds? Could be useful for a carry who gets ganked by Kallari to give the team time to react.

I can only speak for my playstyle, but I typically only gank from the back or middle jungle exits into lane. Not having a dash mechanic, Kallari has to rely on their stealth to close the distance, so it pretty much always makes sense approach from behind. So definitely focusing wards on those.*

Also, if you're warding fangtooth/orb, I generally try and avoid any wards at the entrance by hopping over the back wall (I'd do this with any jungle hero capable of making the jump), so it's worth warding the middle of the pit.

Since Kallari has no CC, ganking mid-lane can be a bit tricky unless it's really pushed in far since the mid-laner can often retreat easily to their turret. With this in mind, I recommend using any wards you have as the jungler on exits out of the jungle in to the side lanes. Probably warding the solo lane is a good idea since the solo laner will have less wards than the duo lane (just another one of many reasons I much prefer ganking the solo lane).

If anyone else has any specific ward strategies/placements, I'd be very interested to hear about them.

*Not sure how practical this advice is, but if you play in a team you might be able to coordinate it. Probs makes sense if the carry plays further on the outer side of the lane and the support plays on the inner side. That way the support has more opportunity to protect the lane since landing any CC and retreating on any incoming gank might just end be able to end the gank immediately, especially against Kallari who either has to close the distance, use blink to make up for it, or back off.

Yeah, if you're a magic user then you could use the active item Epoch (Magician Crest > Wizard Crest > Epoch) to enter stasis.
This is a good site by the way if you want to check items out on the go: https://junglecamp.xyz/items

On the subject of items, Kallari's mark with her E ability is considered a negative effect that can be cleansed. I really have no idea how much of a real difference cleansing the mark makes damage reduction-wise, but might be worth considering. Kallari gets 15% extra damage on the marked target, as well as doing extra damage when the mark expires.

CC is her mortal enemy too like with most if not all assassins
