#Not an issue, but good news! 20% to 50% more fps on Linux!

Good news people!

Fedora 43 came out, and so it seems that Source-Engine-1 games got some sort of performance boost, at leas on my configuration!

I am leaving the link to my post, and the gif, in the next message, because sometimes they get deleted from these forms if they're posted in the opening.

I don't want to ping MasterCom because I believe it's not appropriate, but I'd appreciate to know what she thinks_of and/or knows_about this.

I don't test 10 different Linux Distros, but I believe Fedora to be the normal gamer's best choice, so if this performance was already present on Arch, we Fedorians wouldn't have been able to appreciate it until right now.

Wait, this whole time you've only been testing one distro?

It's not a mistake.
It was either Fedora or Arch. Debian stuff is just older.

Also, being very chronically ill, nobody is forcing me to juggle 4 SSD with different Linux Distros on the computers I have.

My main PC is exactly that: my main PC.
I can't just break it every 2 weeks to "test a different Distro".

Fedora is just modern enough AND stable to be the best option for all and any normal gamer.

# wind juniper how new would my gpu need to be to get better performance

Well...

The question is not that great, but listen:
This was a DXVK conversion problem, of which newer MESA drivers seem to have aided in, at least, "fixing/compensating".

I do not know how this stuff works, and I also don't know why Dx9 performance fluctuates so much on W10 (see the numbres), but I'd dare to say that you should at least have RDNA 1 tech.

I STRONGLY ADVICE YOU TO TEST THE PERFORMANCE YOURSELF THO.
It's more difficult if you don't have "previous numbers" to compare to, but if you test W10/11_vs_Linux (Fedora or Arch) right now you should see a difference.
Here's how I do it:

Team Fortress 2 2025 05 04 09 36 01 03

I am using Nvidia's app to record this.
I could have used OBS to not lose performance, but that wasn't the point so I didn't bother to.

The recording stole a max of 200fps when looking at Red's tower (mat_viewportscale .1 in that corridor is around 400fps lower, it reaches 1100fps when not recording) bu...

I do not know what is happening, Dx9 on W10 should be the best performing option, even with an AMD GPU, FULL STOP!
At least now I can play on Fedora KDE with DXVK without having the GPU work the same for 20-40% less FPS.

Still, I would have to properly test all the other games, but I am too sick to do it right now...
