#TF2 unknown CRASH - Most apparent on Zombie Infection

After about 10 crashes, there is no clear reason on why TF2 will close; anything could be happening after any amount of time. I have tried clearing out my custom folder as well. No crash dialog appears after the crash either.

This is MOST apparent on Zombie Infection, only taking 10 minutes max to crash.

I will provide the .dmp files generated by steam.

#

what I can interpret is that referenced memory is failing to either be read or something else

more testing / better investigation needed as this has only made me more confused

#

just got my first crash yesterday

#

turns out this still happens in a very specific way:

#

I have to be playing heavy

when you're done, don't add anything back (either in cfg or custom) and test it out

And don't play heavy

I was busy and this thread got a bit lost but I'll get my results back here in a bit

#

also for reference, these are the exact steps I followed:

  • blanked out the cloud/cache files for tf2
  • turned off steam cloud for tf2
  • reinstalled the game
  • launched the game with -novid -autoconfig -default +host_writeconfig config.cfg full +mat_savechanges +quit
  • about to launch tf2 to "test it out" with a fully vanilla /custom/ and /cfg/
also might separately try the vulkan launch option just for experimentation
#

currently my only launch options are -novid -nojoy -nohltv

so far,

#

played Murky and Atoll both for ~20 minutes, no crashing

#

also got demos from them for benchmarking

I just realized I left a comment in my config that r_queued_decals 1 can cause a crash, now I'm wondering if that was the problem
