no

#

i dont think you'll be able to smoothly emulate it on any laptop

glacial spindle
#

those are very very bad

#

lol

#

like

#

those specs were garbage when those components released almost a decade ago

#

you wouldnt be able to do anything with a laptop of those specs

mossy tangle
#

hmm that's a pretty niche question and i'm not sure if anyone here can adequately answer that

mossy tangle
#

those specs aren't great by today's standards, but you are trying to run a ps3 game--although rpcs3 seems to want beefy laptops

#

so you might be pushing it a lot with those specs

There are laptops with roughly the cpu performance of a last gen desktop

#

Also rpcs3 supports macbooks, those have half decent cpu performance

glacial spindle
#

there is also shitters like a laptop with a core i5 6th gen

sweet onyx
#

I mean you said it wouldn't be possible on any laptop

#

that's what I was replying to

hybrid heath
#

I have tried emulating on a way better laptop and this title in particular is hard to emulate

glacial spindle
#

gotta get a bigger budget

#

or realistically there's probably better hardware you can get for the same budget

hybrid heath
#

rpcs3 2.0?

#

I could try

#

hm

glacial spindle
#

no

#

u could probably get a ps3 tho

hybrid heath
#

That title specifically had issues running smoothly for me

#

I have a ryzen 5 5600H, an RTX 3060 Mobile

#

Nope

glacial spindle
#

im telling you u wont be able to emulate it on that hardware lmfao

hybrid heath
#

Does it list different tips than the rpcs3 wiki?

glacial spindle
#

if ur ok with 1 fps

sweet onyx
#

(Not a laptop)

#

Laptops cost a lot more than desktops for the same performance

#

Like close to double

jovial latch
#

for RPCS3 you're going to want a strong CPU, preferably one with 6+ cores

#

that CPU probably will not cut it

#

in fact in that video he mentiones the RPCS3 cpu tier list

#

and that CPU falls here, in D tier

#

aka, probably fine for non-AAA titles

#

MGS4 is absolutely a triple A title

#

what you shoud be looking for is a CPU that is something like 6c12t, or 8c, preferably with AVX-512 support

#

this doesn't just go for MGS4 this just goes for RPCS3 as a whole

#

also in the video they say that at native resolution an I5-9600k was able to keep pretty consistent 60fps, and if you compare that CPU to the one you're asking about, it is night and day

#

also we're not just talking low fps in this case, we're talking potentially unplayably bad fps

#

like 2fps bad

#

PS3 is extremely CPU intensive

#

and MGS4 is like the hardest of the hard games to emulate on PS3

#

additionally, it would help if you gave us your potential budget, we might be able to give some suggestions on systems that might work better for your needs

sweet onyx
#

9600k is probably about "twice as fast" as a 6440hq

#

depending on workload

#

so it might be almost playable on a 6440hq

jovial latch
#

not in this case i don't think

#

4c4t is like unplayable in any game on rpcs3

#

and from the stuff i'm looking at its considered unplayable for MGS4, even when the target fps is 30

sweet onyx
#

Makes sense I guess, for an emulator if you don't have enough cpus and its own threads have to start competing the performance can fall off quick

#

Still probably worth trying it out

jovial latch
#

also in this case we're comparing a mobile CPU to a desktop CPU

sweet onyx
#

They're pretty much identical though, just the desktop one is clocked higher and has 1.5x the cores

#

but they're the same exact microarchitecture

sweet onyx
#

That's probably about how much you can expect to pay for the cpu alone, buying it used

#

For a cpu that's 'recommended' for the task

glacial spindle
#

anything below 60/30 fps will probably run the game in slow motion

#

i doubt rpcs3 has frame skipping

jovial latch
#

i'm not sure, because i know that mgs4 has a framerate unlock code, and it apparently also improves fps too

#

so in theory that would just have everything using deltatime

south dawnBOT
#

*so in theory that

would just have everything

using deltatime*

sweet onyx
#

Can't you just try it?

#

That will be the best way to find out

jovial latch
#

well its kinda hard ot try before buying

sweet onyx
#

I thought he already had the laptop

#

Mb

jovial latch
#

nah, thats why we're talking about prices

#

but yeah, the thing is, as i mentioned before, mgs4 is like one of the hardest ps3 games to emulate

#

and RPCS3 doesn't even recommend a 4c4t cpu like that for most of the ps3 library

sweet onyx
#

I suppose I could test it if I get around to it

#

I have a mobile skylake based cpu and I could disable cores/hyperthreading and lower the turbo multipliers to simulate a 6440hq
