does it go back to normal after a clean up?

So, putting in mastercomfig makes it worse. And then removing it afterwards fixes it?

Can you screenshot your cfg folder?
Just the folders

Why not run the shounic benchmark with and without mastercomfig to provide at least some quantification

#

even if it doesn't reflect the supposed freezing or whatever

coral roost
#

The old demo used to be called benchmark_test

#

now it's sbmrk24

#

so timedemo sbmrk24

#

Usually it's good to run it twice or more, the first run after opening the game is often inconsistent

#

best to disable net graph, but it won't matter much

#

just run the timedemo both with mastercomfig and without it, and keep things as consistent as possible

fair cedar
#

It's a demo. No networking involved*

#

That's weird

coral roost
#

Well post the output

#

It prints the summary in console

#

your net graph showing 66 means nothing

#

it always shows that for timedemo

Assuming you had to reopen tf2, yes

#

Was that the first or second run after starting TF2?

#

Ignore the first run, this is the one you use.

#

Again, 2 runs. Ignore the first.

#

Interesting

#

It's pretty unheard of for mastercomfig low to perform worse than stock tf2

fair cedar
#

Was it only the mastercomfig low .vpk that you installed? Or were there other files?

coral roost
#

but I guess it's within the same ballpark

#

And on top of this you have freezing that's only present with mastercomfig?

#

Could you share some of the details of your computer?

subtle night
#

i know there was a possible performance regression in the current release, try the release before that

#

also thank you for your diligence, patience and help with this

#

at the top you can choose

#

choose 9.10.2

#

now you can download at the bottom after selecting it

#

if you refresh the page it will reset to the latest version

It's maybe worth freeing up some space on your ssd, they can get slow with little free space as the controller has less room to work with

#

though I sort of doubt that's the problem

#

You can also just check it with crystal disk mark to make sure it's performing okay

#

60 fps on the benchmark on low settings seems quite low for that hardware, I would expect almost double

#

at least at 1080p

#

Yeah, there are alternatives too

#

and yeah a new ssd is not likely to have slowed down yet

subtle night
#

interesting, ill be releasing a new version soon and we can see if the performance issues will be fixed

coral roost
#

It still seems strange that mastercomfig low could perform worse than default tf2

#

@quiet lynx do you still have the freezing issue on 9.10.2?

#

Well I guess that narrows that down quite a bit

#

Up to you

#

It might be helpful to mastercomfig if you could find the exact setting that causes the freezing, but maybe it's already known

#

It looks like the main differences between 9.10.2 and 9.10.3 are r_lightcache_zbuffercache, r_occludeemaxarea, r_occluderminarea, fast_fogvolume, and mat_bufferprimitives

#

I can't really think of why any of them would cause freezing, but idk

subtle night
#

mat_bufferprimitives has no difference on Windows btw, so it didn't change

#

r_lightcache_zbuffercache didn't change for low preset

#

so it can only be fast_fogvolume or the occluder stuff

#

the occluder stuff was made to be the vanilla settings in 9.10.3

#

same with fast_fogvolume

#

so i have no idea

#

but, i do have some ideas on how to fix performance for the next version

#

within a week if things go right

subtle night
#

Also could you try to test packet_rate=congestion in modules

subtle night
#

@quiet lynx You can try the latest dev build alpha on the app!

subtle night
#

Yeah i saw that initial load stutter too, tracking it down
