It's also worth noting that modern intel is quite distinct from the 2 decade old Intel GMA 950

So it's possible there's a way to do it now that wouldn't exist back then or vice versa

Yeah of course you can change it by code injection

but whether there's a setting built into the driver to change it transparently under the game like nvidia can, I don't think so

You can look how this app you're talking about works though, if it hooks the driver rather than the game it's maybe safer

It's perhaps worth noting that dxvk has an lod bias setting, though in quick testing I can't get it to work

not that it's relevant to you on your 20 year old chip

that may be an avenue to get lod bias settings on newer intel graphics though

I looked up this hialgo tool, it looks like it does inject into the game and there's a risk of getting vac banned

so the developers (as of 9 years ago, the update version which mentions this was from 2015 and the tool hasn't been updated past that) think that it's safe enough
