Other than load times, SSDs aren't really going to make much of a difference.

#

So, like, any of them should be a decent bump for loading times.

#

I have mine on a Samsung 860 EVO.

My problem is is that i have big fps drops when alot of player on screen doing alot of stuff and i asked previously here someone told me to buy an ssd an that will fix my problem

That 2C4T CPU is more of an issue than your storage. I'd recommend an SSD in general, but that CPU is pretty weak for TF2.

vestal peak
#

yeah alot of ppl say that pentium is pretty weak

@vestal peak has leveled up! (0 ➜ 1)

vestal peak
#

can you recommend me a better one for tf2?

#

TF2 can only use 2 cores so i3 or above is recommended
Wouldn't recommend any AMD CPUs because they're still trailing Intel in IPC but they're catching up

deep crane
#

It's up to 4 threads. You'll also be seeing improvements if other processes can get off the cores TF2 is using.

#

And the Zen 3 AMD CPUs perform amazingly with Source.

vestal peak
#

any AMD cpu or zen 3 amd?

deep crane
#

Personally, I'm on a Ryzen 5 3600 and doing fine, but a 5000 series would perform even better.

vestal peak
#

are there any cheap AMD CPU's?

deep crane
#

How cheap?

vestal peak
#

hmm i dont know, whats the cheapest good AMD processor?

#

is a 100$ okay?

#

probly more

#

AMD Ryzen 3 4100 4-Core (Up to 4.0GHz, 4MB, 65W, AM4) is it good?

vestal peak
#

sorry i dont really have the knowledge for CPU's or pc parts in general

fierce wave
#

are you on a laptop or a desktop

#

and with the 5000 series i'd recommend the ryzen 5 5600

lucid abyss
#

Also I would recommend AMD to people who are after budget options

vestal peak
#

I am on a desktop

#

How can i tell if one CPU is for desktop or laptop?

#

what are the differences and how can i tell them apart?

not AMD branded motherboard, but a motherboard which supports an AMD CPU

#

unfortunately due to the nature of CPU chipsets there's no "one size fits all" for motherboards

#

so you need to buy a mobo which specifically supports the CPU you want to buy

#

not just the CPU brand but the CPU itself, some mobos don't support say, older AMD cpus

vestal peak
#

so i need to buy a CPU that fits my motherboard, but first see if it fits?

#

Found a list which shows which CPU will fit my motherboard

#

this is true, right?

fierce wave
#

i assumed that all amd ryzen 4000 series cpus were laptop cpus but that might not be so

#

yea that's a desktop cpu, my bad

#

it says it on the specifications:

#

what's your motherboard?

#

if you're stuck with a $100 limit then i'd recommend the ryzen 5500 rather than the 4100: 5500 has more cores/threads, higher clock speeds etc

#

and if you're willing to increase your budget by ~$40 then you could look into the ryzen 5600 which seems to offer decently better performance compared to the 5500

lucid abyss
#

So a 6th/7th gen i5/7 would probably be best

#

According to that list

fierce wave
#

so then yeah with your motherboard your options are limited, you can't get an AMD cpu and you can only go up to an i7-7700k which is pretty old

lucid abyss
#

Definitely still capable enough for tf2

fierce wave
#

yeah it is but given the price of an i7-7700k you'd be better off buying a new motherboard and a newer AMD CPU (and still be spending less)

fr? damn
