Hikaru hasn’t focused on classical in a long while. While he’s still playing in candidates this year, Hikaru’s performance has never quite paced with Magnus’ in classical time formats, and both of them are past their prime. As I said, I think it’s unlikely anybody who was in their prime alongside Magnus will be able to properly surpass him. Magnus’ performance decline is just as insignificant if not less so than that of the other top players in his generation. Hikaru is no exception
