Thinking quick on your feet just can’t compare to the skills you should be able to develop by playing rapid such as calculation. Fast on your feet is only good when you are either playing blitz in general or under time constraints at the end, but even then calculation will get you wins before you get into those scenarios

if i put a person who only plays blitz against a person who only plays rapid, the rapid player would take longer to make moves but they'd be better moves, and the blitz player would play moves a lot faster while making dumb mistakes and losing pieces
nothing against blitz, its a great way to practice quick movement in chess
but rapid is just so much better because you get time to plan out moves (cough cough hikaru) and make the best moves in the position after thinking about it for a bit

Rapid at most a 20 min game, its a good place to start learning chess and improving, people bring the argument that blitz is better because more pros play it but in reality they arent there to improve but to mostly have fun, in rapid chess you gain more time allowing you to devolop your ideas and the more you play rapid the more you can devolop ideas you may have thought of playing in old games its most revelent in rapid since the more time you have the more likely you are of coming up with a good idea, the rapid growth of people is seen in the statstics of chess where most people have a higher rating in rapid then in blitz thats mostly because people prioritze rapid over blitz. another reason for why rapid is better is because the rapid pool of players in rapid is more balanced, i said before that the rapid to blitz rating of people is very shifting, in that meaning that rapid is more likely to be matching with youre skill level. Blitz also has some negativity to it, quite the lot actually the most notable one is the time of 3 min for each player which is the standard and most played version of blitz a shorter time frame makes a player more likely to blunder since they dont get the time to think and the shorter the time gets the more stress it puts on the player to find a move which is more and more likely to be a worse move, on the other hand the experience of rapid tends to be smoother as long as you dont rush your moves and tread carefully. for example here are stats to prove my point A 1700 rating in barrage places you in the main 130,000 players, however a 1500 in fast places you in the best 50,000. More individuals play it; in addition to with less chance to think, your example acknowledgment and instinct.

Blitz [for me] cause it can help you make decisions faster what good move to play, it's good if you want to practice for bullets games. But I don't recommend blitz for beginners because you need time to think about your moves.

For me I pick Rapid, I choose rapid since it will help you think more and improve your calculation skills also it gets gir-- uhhh --your middlegame and endgame practice on, which is a fundemental of chess knowledge, it will also help you not to have multiple inaccuracies, mistakes, misses, blunders in your games and help you get more gir--- uhhh --- good moves like brilliants (which you can use for bragging rights) and it will also improve your chess vision not as much as puzzles but it will still improve your chess vision also with rapid you can envision the board in your mind more than blitz can.
