Do you know how many people started playing in this last few months? Most of the Discord is lower-rated. This is something for the huge mass of kids who just started to have a nice chess tourney to play every week.

A) People can't join late, and those that can won't have a chance to win the tournament.
B) People can't leave early if they just want to play for fun.
C) A 10+0 8-round Swiss takes 2½ hours.
D) 8 rounds is only enough for 256 players, but we have >1800, would need 14 rounds for that.
E) Long waiting times between games.
F) No chance for lower-rated players to win.

That's not really a problem. Rating is not like coins, although beginners treat it like that.
Rating reflects your skill. Your skill doesn't change when you play a smurf.

So all that happens is that your rating will be a bit lower temporarily. That's completely normal and happens all the time anyway. It will go up towards your skill.

I don't think you need a source to know that. chess.com wouldn't have had all these server errors, or being #1 on the app store, or 1bn games bragging rights, >80% market share without prioritising the expansion of their playerbase, even merging with chess24 to further monopolise the chess market. After all, seeing the absolutely rapid expansion of chess is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and the opportunity is hard to come by. I don't object to this idea, I think it's the best priority, and it could create good brand loyalty long-term, but now there are still basic things this site is ignoring/delaying in order to push this agenda

First place was around 600 meaning they are almost guarenteed to be a smurf 2000+ which gives me high odds of losing to them costing me 16 rating points
