It hurts people's chess in multiple ways. It encourages them to start playing hope chess sacrifices cause they want to get brilliant moves so badly, they don't understand the fact that there in reality other ways to play brilliant chess than finding sacrifices that work, and basically they're valuing something with no meaning and prioritizing the wrong stuff for their chess.
