Three reasons why I play Delayed over Normal Alapin:

1. Normal Alapin is much more well-known. The kids (and adults) have something immediately.
2. Move-order trickery. Forces black to have a consistent second move. Many play 2.…d6 or 2.…e6 or 2. …Nc6, and now are tied to an Alapin with that move.
3. I play it slightly differently than normal Alapin. I go for a more positional approach and avoid some of the very sharp lines. My pawn structure is usually better.

I play Delayed Alapin. In the normal Alapin after 1.e4 c5 2.c3 black fights for the center immediately with Nf6 or d5.
In the Delayed Alapin, after 1.e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 (or e6 or Nc6) 3.c3, it's not so obvious how black can prevent white from putting pawns on d4 and e4.

Objectively fine for black. Practically, pretty tricky, and white has a simple plan.

The last two books (The Improving Annotator & The World's Most Instructive Amateur Game Book) are actually meant for lower ratings, I have them mostly because I have a student who wants to work through them. The other books mostly target 1800 chess.com and above, in some cases 2200 and above.

I haven't read any of these (duh) so I can't recommend them.

In general, chess books are awesome though. Very underrated, especially if you play classical chess.

You can Google the names of each tactic and study then on Wikipedia or whatever you prefer. Also you can click on as many puzzles you want and try to solve them in your head as long as you don't actually solve them on the the board because you're one day puzzle thing will only be in effect if you actually try to solve it
