It's hilarious to me that there are so many new possibilities for swindling stalemates in spell chess. Check out this move that guarantees a stalemate:

A lot of the time, A freeze can be countered by a freeze, but not when that reactive freeze would cause a stalemate lol

Apparently, in this position, if my opponent would have frozen their own queen, my king would be able to move up and immediately get captured. Very weird ruling by chess.com though ngl

I don't think you're understanding; although maybe you think the weird ruling is somehow what you expected. I froze the opponent's king and queen. If my opponent simply moves a pawn, the game is immediately stalemated. However, if they freeze their own queen and move a pawn, I must move my queen up 1 space where the queen is clearly attacking, and then my opponent can immediately take my king with their queen. You see why this seems odd?

Not really. It's like in duck chess where you can put a king in an otherwise stalemated position but block the queen's view with the duck, forcing the king to move into the blocked line of sight. Then they must move the duck somewhere else and open the queen's line of sight, allowing capture next move

I’m confused about the rules. There’s 2rows of pieces and one of pawns, or there’s just a piece budget and you can do whatever you want?

The row 2 rows away from the first has to be all pawns. The first row has to be full of pieces at least, but everything else is fair game except nothing is allowed to be beyond the third row, and no unit may be put into a position where they start off checking the enemy king and I'm hoping it helps the case with the camels.

I have a question. When you say that the 9 games for uploading your own variant must be at least 24 hours apart, does taht mean it resets when two games are less than 24 hours apart? Or does it just only count it once every 24 hours? I am asking because the one I made is so fun I find it difficult to wait a whole 24 hours until the next game.

If you're referring to Variants World submissions, then the rule is that the 1st and the 9th (last) game must be at least 24 hours apart

So if you played your first game on August 28 at 0 UTC, your last game will need to be on August 29 at 0 UTC or later

I just dont get it how theres like no big community for it, but I kinda think it is because chess.com hides it away and many features are missing for chess960. Just thought of what could a be fun additional rule for atomic chess. If after capturing the enemy king (not checkmating) the opponent can also capture your king, they can play that move and then it's draw by mutual assured destruction.

Kinda funny, but it could also require a bit more focus on defense rather than just trying to launch the most aggressive attack like what I've seen a lot in that variant

Honestly, I think 'Freestyle Chess' doesn’t really shake things up that much. I bet the top players are still relying on their 'engines' to come up with smart opening moves. The Capablanca Variant, on the other hand, brings more to the table by adding two pieces and changing the board size from 8x8 to 10x8.

Well it's a chess variant so ig not

Alright. The variant has 40 cards, 10 of each piece type (excluding pawns and kings). Each card has information on how the piece would move, 9 fairy pieces for each piece.

The game starts by revealing cards until you've revealed one of each piece type. These cards will tell how the pieces move that game. After each game, the winner reveals 3 cards and chooses one to keep, which will replace whichever piece type it is.

Multi Move Chess Variant

Valid Turn Types
A. Two Piece Simultaneous Move

Move two pieces non-capturing.
Neither move alone or final position may give check.
King patching: the king may move through or into a square under threat if a second piece simultaneously blocks that threat.
Example: bishop + knight for positioning; cannot threaten the king or capture.

B. Single-Piece Double Move

A piece may move twice if the first move is non-capturing and does not give check.
If the first move captures or gives check, the turn ends immediately.
Escaping check allowed if the final position leaves the king safe.
Example: a knight jumps twice in an “L–L” pattern without capture or check.

C. Capture

Ends turn immediately. Cannot combine with other moves.

D. Give Check

Ends turn immediately. Cannot combine with other moves.

E. Castle + Another Piece

Castling counts as one move.
Second piece must follow two-piece move rules.
If castling gives check, second piece cannot move.

F. Pawn Promotion

Rank 7 → 8: promotes; Promoted piece can move if it does not give check.
Rank 6 → 8 (Single-Piece Double Move): promotes; turn ends immediately, can't give check.

G. King Movement and Escaping Check

King in check: Single-Piece Double Move, first move must leave check to allow double move.
The king may castle through or into squares under threat only if another piece simultaneously blocks the threat.
End-of-turn square must be safe.

En Passant

Not limited to movement from home rank, can occur whenever an opposing pawn moves 2–3 squares and lands next to your pawn
