Idk I never really tried it either for the same reason but it feels insignificant to think about a single position for 15-30 minutes a day until the next, just purely speaking from a learning perspective you likely will know most of the opening moves and many won't even require much thinking. I do agree that its great if you're very busy or just want to chill

You can just use the position and play it against yourself with the extra time. I’d say 90% if it’s benefits for me is for the purpose of playing against myself using my opponent’s pieces to deepen my understanding

On the side I can still play a couple rapids and do a lot of puzzles

The key difference is that you have no idea how your opponent will play. And when you factor their unique opening choice and playstyle, when you play from their perspective it opens you up to a whole new way of looking at things.

If you play purely against yourself, there’s bias in your playstyle. This can be compensated by playing a unique opening for both sides, but even then, your opponent can play sound moves that you’d personally consider odd or wrong.

Learning how to play with odd moves and such allows you to think creatively

In cases like those, this is where personal preference is more apparent. For me when that happens it’s an opportunity to maintain a winning position and finish the match. Depending on the position I can try to think of creative moves black could make as well.

And finally, when a match is finished I like to copy the FEN to spar against bots in equal positions that felt pretty challenging

One factor that might be key here is most people will play regardless of how they feel. So if they feel moody they might crash out and lose elo. But if you only play from a good state of mind it’d make sense to steadily grow

Also I feel like momentum in rapid builds up way easier than in blitz, probably because time plays less of a role in the outcome so if you're on a roll and calculating well, you will keep doing that as you have more time

Look at where the pieces are aiming, if anything is attacked, if everything is protected. Checks and captures obviously are the most important. Then more advanced would be realising what pawn breaks are there if any or weak squares. Which pieces you have are awkward, which ones your enemy would like to reroute, and so on

Yes, technically all those go in the order you said or whatever, as long as you check everything, that being said let's take me for example:

I am not an expert by any means, barely 1800 rapid and 1600 blitz, but I cannot say I check everything. Hell, I do not check most things. For example if we've played a Scandinavian and I traded the white bishop and pushed h3, I hardly have to look to the right side of the board unless me and my opponent start an attack, there is simply little to no play there until one of us decides to push pawns on that side or move pieces in that direction. I do not need to check my teo rooks on the backrank if they are only staring at the other rook and there seem to be no tactics, my mind simply discards those.

I at max think about 2-5 possible moves, maybe more if the position is complex. I do not need to check if my rook is protected, sometimes I miss it because of that, sometimes i see it but still choose wrong. It's mostly patter recognition and intuition, calculation only comes as the position becomes complex

Reason I type so fast is because when I stsrted 4th grade (10 years old in my country) we could access 1 shared computer at school, and I decided tk become the fastest typer.
