I played a ton, it was easier for me because I hard grinded chess with a friend at university, we both started the grind in the mid-2000s and progressed a lot by challenging each other "first to x rating", he's currently around 2350 so it worked out for him too mostly.

i just kinda specialized in speed chess over time for some reason, in fact my flag rate for my blitz rating is way above average, of course i can't use the clock as a weapon in OTB. I would if I could, it's just a ton of time, effort, and money, and it's also a different style of chess. For example, I play a lot of dumb gambits that would get flattened over the board.

chat i just played 2 1900 games and was completely winning against a higher rated opponent in the first one by threatening a famous checkmate pattern on g7 with my bishop and queen. he had to sacrifice his rook for it but then i somehow managed to uno reverse the position and got checkmated on g2 instead with the same pattern 😭

A list is sorted from top to bottom of players in points first and then rating. That list is then split into two. The 1st player of list one matches the 1st player of list two and so on. Mathematically if you are directly the rating below the median line you will be playing against the highest rated player in the tourney on the first round
