Yeah so early versions used calculations based on shannon entropy to derive complexity and whatnot. That meant that, for example, a simple AND logic gate that integrates two inputs into a single output would be equivalent to the minimum unit of consciousness. But this is reliant on external conditions to determine the output, meaning something like a simple photodiode would represent the minimum possible information reduction and therefore the minimum content of consciousness. But now it has shifted toward the idea that something must exist inherently and for the sake of itself. So now it can not be reliant solely on the external, meaning to be conscious it has to have some recursive nature
