some old opening sequences are just ass apparently

like in chess it didnt really do that

its just ok we know some openings are probably a bit dubious

and computers proved that it’s completely unplayable

like the line between good opening and bad opening become much more well defined but in general we had a decent idea

It’s halting my progress massively. I go from facing a scholars mate to someone who’s mastered endgames, always finds the great move, scouting perfectly several moves ahead. Opponents where it feels like I simply can’t win. Like the possibility of victory just wasn’t there.

It was actually a whole weekend!
Didn't go great, I had trouble in the openings, in 4 out of 5 games I was just worse out of the opening. I missed some tactics later, but that was generally alright.

1 win, 3 draws, 1 loss. Against opponents rated ~2160 on average, so 2160 is my performance. My goal was 2200 performance, I missed that. But 2160 isn't so bad.

Fun facts - my dad was once was getting scammed in my first OTB tournament.
Someone said they could make me 2000 in just 1 month. Even though I told them it's not true they did not listen and asked the amount and they said - 25 dollars for 1 hours. And my dad gave up 😅

But the trend is definitely going towards DGT 3000 or DGT 2500.

Huh? Speed on chess.com depend on the execution speed of your browser and lots and lots of other factors. The hardware is not a big factor.
Also, it's chess. Especially in the longer time controls, even the oldest PC that is still supported would work just fine.

yeah your main weaknesses all come from the beginning of the game. play a real opening, not e3. If you're going to freestyle openings, you at least need to play moves that make sense. playing Nc3 instead of c4 makes no sense, you need to gain space. Also, not castling was weird, most positions you should just castle. Your attack on the black king was also weird, there was nothing there and you just wasted time instead of developing and castling. 9. e4 was also a bad move, why are you striking at the center when your king is there. I know I might sound harsh, but that's my honest take on your play. You need to play more principled

yes, but you dont really need to memorize stuff, just know the ideas behind each move, and learn the middlegame plans. Practice tons of puzzles, and watch some basic endgame videos. Overall tho, make sure you understand tons of opening principles because that will determine the rest of the game

oh and don't play blitz. ever. Only play rapid or slower. Think about every move, and analyze every game. You also don't learn by playing a million games in a row. Playing games and analyzing should probably only be about 30-50% of your chess time

It's really boring and sucks to learn and theres a lot to it, but if you actually are honest and learn it all you never have to learn the principles again. You have to sacrifice a good time now and as a reward your chess will greatly improve in the endgame. For openings I recommend the YouTube channel "Hanging Pawns"
