I'm not qualified to answer this but as openings are very crucial as it's the start of the game, if you don't know even one and want to reach 1800 your tactics, calculating and endgames must be exceptional close to perfect

playing random stuff that I think works, still not super dubious. ill play e5 somerimes, e6 sometimes, Sicilian sometimes, play normal lines, no fancy gambits or tricks. I will not particularly attempt to study opening ideas or moves, but I will analyse my games. that means if I get trapped from an opening, I will try not to do that again. if i see that what I'm doing is dubious or I have the wrong plans, i will look a little bit with the engine.
