i started like 2 years ago, and at first i improved super fast and chess was fun. 4 months in, i went to a chess club and got a chess coach. 6 months in, i hit 1500 and get a FIDE elo in blitz i think (1504). 1 year in, I get to 2000 rapid, but blitz and bullet fall behind. in fide i get to 1700. 1,5 years in, chess starts to get a little boring but i hit 2300 rapid, 2100 bullet and 2100 blitz, 2 years in, chess is starting to feel fun again, but improving is much harder.

Well, I learned how pieces move as a kid but only really started learning by myself like 5 years ago during covid, got to 1000 rating, then stopped for more than a year, came back and hit 1200, stopped again for a year and now I'm back, currently at 1350 but I'll probably hit 1500 soon-ish as I am studying more than playing 😅
I have to manage my time for my hobbies and uni so I can't put in too much time into chess but it's fun to learn something new everyday

I’m kinda extrapolating from experience bc that was how i knew i could hit 1900 previously
