I always ask myself why do high rated players love complicated openings so much? You can still win championships with gambits if you put in the hours. Alot of people just copy what looks "theory heavy" thinking it’ll carry them but sometimes simple stuff works better. Even something like the modern Scandinavian gambit can go a long way

I mean the more you understand chess the easier the explanation gets. in order to outplay good opponents one has to take them into the deep dark forest (pose as many questions as possible + as much pressure and tension), if however you release the tension early on and go for gambits / equal french or carokann exchange lines, you tend to outplay them in the longer run, which will however most probably result in a draw on top level

there are enough creative ideas for instance in the ruy lopez. peter leko has made an extensive course on it and basically "creativity" usually implies preparing with computers and finding some insane line as black to equalize into a drawn endgame after 30 moves in the breyer or something. well this obviously does still exist in chess middlegames, but still you primarily look out for strategical concepts and different maneuvers. for instance, obviously you can make some weird / creative queen maneuvers, but generally they will need to have a point. and this point is based on overall chess strategy and calculation, so creativity plays less of a role. once again, peter leko mentioned that simplicity is bliss and there is NO point in finding "a special solution" to positions where one side has a decent strategic advantage. = simple moves will seal the deal normally

Can you explain what you mean by strategy and calculation? Calculation is everywhere in chess and it’s one of the most important parts of being creative. Well, lets assume we have this position (najdorf middle game i recently got). As highlighted White has a lot of strategic attempts to convert the better middle game and get a superior position for instance by the move qd5, taking the initiative. this barely has anything to do with creativity and is based on the principle of simply centralizing your queen in a weak king situation and take the initiative. for that reason, creativity like weird maneuvers with lets say kf1 followed by qe1 could be counted as creativity, which would be completely unnecessary as there are already plenty of "normal" ideas and there would be no reason to be this creative. so most probably the plenty of ideas one comes up with are often not that creative but following clear principles, as a conclusion creativity is somewhat inferior and can even eat up your time / unnecessarily complicate matters for both sides, which would favor the side with an inferior position (hope that explains it somewhat)
