Hello! Welcome, first of all. If you wanna start: learn how pieces move and Chess notation. It'll help you in the long run if you get used to it. Then, learn some basic principles: in the opening, develop towards the center, don't move a piece twice unless it's necessary, don't move your queen too early and so on. Then, study endings: some mate tactics (staircase, 2 rooks ending, king and queen, etc). You also want to learn some openings, my recommendations are Caro Kann, 4 knights game and the sicilian dragon (for black) and queens gambit, london system and so on (for white)

It just didnt click with me, I played many practice games with a USCF expert french player. (jacobplayschess) the pawn breaks with f6 adn then to take or not to take and when to trade the bishops allows the higher rated player with more positonal understanding to have a nice time. Of course, I could have been that player but I didnt trust myself and I didnt think that I had the positional skills. Of course, not everyone was the french player I trained with. In practice, my opponents are much worse. However, it still leaves a mark that drives me away from playing it

I think QG is solid, sicillian can get sharp and hectic super fast, but I like to be risk averse and try not to do super dangerous things in tournament games, but I'm gonna change that in the future by playing more sharp openings like e4 and such so I'm not afraid of tactics stuff
