#Which one of these would be a better buy? Morakniv Clipper 840 vs handmade

What do you expect to do with the knife?
Feeling like I'm repeating myself: depends on the purpose
none of them, for basic carving a Mora 120 or Mora 106 are the basic options
depends on the size you need for your purpose
Wouldn't pick either for carving or whittling
you need to flip things around: I want to do X, what Y do I need for that
my take on the two you have posted:
-
Look at my fancy knife that I wear to look cool and show off
-
The all-purpose open boxes, screwing screws, opening paint cans, cutting of zip ties, occasionally removing wood
both of them are too unwieldy for whittling and carving
The knives you asked about look more suited for hiking/"bushcraft" rather than woodworking
And yeah the first impression of the knife 1 is that it's primary function may be to look cool rather than be useful
Not necessarily so but first impression from just the looks of it
I'm not looking for incredibly fine details, I already have an amazing whittling knife
this is for learning survival skills while still being able to do some basic woodworking functions
In that case just buy an inexpensive Mora
Survival stuff is really a lot out of scope of this server anyway
hm.. I think in time, I'll get a cheap mora and that knife- also simply because it's a beautiful piece.
On top of this... what would be a good cheap axe/ hatchet of choice?
again.. purpose
I don't know the word for it but getting tiny twigs and knows out of pieces of wood
If we're preparing wood with a hatchet and an axe it's a process called riving and its done to whole logs, usually from the trunk. And there's a few more tools that are used for it.
Still sounds like your trying to do survival/ bushcraft stuff, which is outside the scope of this server. You would likely get better help looking for a bushcraft server.
You kinda misunderstand and it's not really your fault because my wording was poor
I mean really small twiggy bits 6-12 mm long
That are hard to remove with a saw or planer
This server is specifically about fine woodworking. That doesn't mean any work where you do something with a piece of wood but the process of making for example furniture, tools and art pieces
Also taking off thick bark
I'd use a drawknife for that
I know, I mean "setting up" the wood before hand-especisllt when it's not pre cut
Could I trust Ali for one?
I wouldn't buy an axe from AliExpress personally
