Life has been a bit crazy this year. Between buying a house that needed a fair bit of work and moving shop early in the year and the birth of our first kid in August, woodworking has not always been a priority. That said, I was fairly surprised by what all I was able to accomplish when looking back.

  • A small walnut tray for my wife to eat in bed when she was down with covid for a week
  • Pine shop stool. First time using M&T and angled at that
  • A bluebird house for my FIL. Handmaking 30 tiny shingles was a PITA but very cool result
  • Picture frame for a local artist's print. The resin streaks in the cherry really make me think of ripples in a pond
  • A desk top for my brother. Ash, garnet shellac. That one started in December '21
  • An engagement ring box for one of my best friends. He is coming to pick it up tomorrow and I am going out to the shop to throw some shellac on it immediately after writing this blobFingerguns

Some other random bits and bobs:

  • The shop on the day we moved everything in and then from a few weeks ago. Lots of work there. I trenched and ran power to a new subpanel, leveled the scary block foundation, and am in the process of getting it conditioned
  • A rustic pergola and cedar/cypress gate in my parents' side yard. They really wanted a whimsical feel and, while not my style, I think we nailed the brief

  • Wainscotting? and new trim in my son's nursery. Milling the trim in a shop that was barely setup was an interesting game of tetris
  • One of my highlights of the year was a trip up to see @barren wasp at NBSS for a marquetry and inlay class

I like the serving tray too

#

that's going to be an early 2024 project for me, tired of making several trips with the tea pot etc

It was a fun and quick project!

#

Would be a great place to try out compound angled dovetails!

maaaaaybe, mostly I want to have one more than I want to make a fancy one

#

I can't decide on design elements

#

I'm a bit jealous of the marquetry too
