#Is this "bad" plywood? - 2 layers with FIR(?)

That’s a different type of material.
Stave cores!
Product name: "Veneer sheet oak 1250×2500"
I'm not in the US, having a hard time sourcing materials. A plywood sheet with oak 19mm costs from $370-550. But this place was cheaper "only" $225.
Is this a ok material, or?
good quality plywood is expensive;
I believe it may warp much more easily than plywood, but it will depends on how you re going to use it
@crisp cairn So those prices seem "normal" ish in range? Are there other materials or cheaper ways to solve this design? https://discord.com/channels/386183018093477890/1179600102852141076
that’s out of my wheelhouse and depends a lot on where you be live. A quick check shows 330€ plus shipping here
So this is for the exposed area above the bench?
Yes, exposed area above the bench (backplate), and the "ledge", drawer front, toekick
I was thinking i could do it all from one sheet. But since these sheets are so expensive, maybe i can use 4mm and glue it to OSB for the backplate?, then buy a 19mm for the "ledge", drawer front and toekick. Then i could use that 19mm for a media unit or other shelfs in the apartment
Stave core has a lot more beam strength but less dimensional stability and can translate textures/flaws from the substrate to the veneers surface.
If I were building this the back panel would be 6mm material and the shelf would anchor into the wall, not the back.
@crystal glade So you would do a cut so that the backplate is two pieces?
6mm with an MDF core will be less expensive and more stable.
I would make it one piece, then anchor a cleat over the top of it and then have the shelf slide onto that cleat
Hollow floating shelf basically
Okey
I'll see if i can find some prices for MDF core
@crystal glade What do you think of making the drawer front out of the stave core sheet? And is it so that the stave core is a no-go, or just that there might be problems with warping?
It's not a no-go it's just something to be aware of because there are trade offs. It's more like working with solid wood than veneer core plywood.
@crystal glade Kinda off-topic for this question but, what kind of hardware for the drawer would you use? I've been looking at Blum with push to open
I have drawers that seem to be made from a similar material, except there’s 3 ply on each side.
