So I'm currently trying to shift my dad's business from furniture veneer market to flooring instead. I have almost 0 idea how to make floor but I do have a considerable resources to give it a try. I need some enlighten in the technical aspect, how to make on sheet (or piece) of the wooden floor.

[Background]

My dad and I run a little Inlay and marquetry workshop together, we live in Thailand and he has been doing it for over 20 years. In the past, we usually sell our veneer to the furniture/ door company. But since then the sales has been gradually dropping since the trend of minimalism came in.

I decided now is the time to revive our workshop by targeting Engineering Wood Floor (EWF) flooring company with more of a modern style and not antique. So I began redesigning the whole things (Pattern and stuff) and made some floor veneer ready to be pressed.

But the problem I faced when presenting our veneer at their company, the thickness of my veneer is too thin. They wanted 2mm++ veneer but ours is 0.6mm thick. After many conversation with my dad, we cannot make a 2mm++ veneer since our raw wood veneer in our stocks are mostly thinner than 1mm.

Currently, there are one and only marquetry/inlay/intarsia flooring company in Thailand and it is actually a branches company from Italy. This is why I wanted to use this opportunity to be the first Thai marquetry flooring company.

[NOW] my idea is we make our own EWF. But little knowledge do me and my dad knows about EWF and flooring because we're not familiar with this field.

There are some questions I wanted to ask you guys about flooring.

  1. Is it possible to make our own floor with just plywood and veneer? How?
  2. How much precision is required in floor making

This discord is really focused on the joinery / fine woodworking. I'll leave this up, but there's almost zero chance you will get a response
