#Decent value router bits for a rookie

Whiteside is good
Amana is $$ but good
Spetool is new but solid
MLCS and Yonico are inexpensive but ok
(Buying sets is usually a waste of money)
What cuts do you need to make?
My advice is generally to avoid yellow, blue, or green paint on router bits. Whiteside and Amana are my first choice.
As mentioned, if they come in a set they're probably bad bits.
I have no idea what cuts I specifically want to do, I just don't want to do a standard rounded square type look, almost like baseboard type? For lack of a better comparison haha
Thanks, I was mostly looking at sets too. Glad I asked you guys first!
That’s a “roundover” bit. Defined by its radius
Pics of your design would help. Some cuts really need a router table to be done well/safely
Actually found a scrap piece of baseboard in the garage haha. Something like this honestly
That's an ogee
Is that the name of the cut?
of the profile, kind of the cut
Ahhhh gotcha
yea, ogee is kind of a categroy more than a precise profile
Ah coolio. I wasn't sure if it was a combination of bits, or if they make an all in one, not even that precise type but something close
Oh wow, this is way deeper than I thought haha. Trying to soak it in :P
Cove & bead is two non-continuous curves with a filet
Understood, but the cove and bead router bits are sold as double or roman ogees
That's Infinity being dumb and lumping them in a set
"ogee" for a lot of manufactures just captures everything with a 2nd curve of any kind
because words are hard and people are dumb
I am proof of both those sentiments
between those two, you should find what you need
So that extra groove on the thickest part, is that part of the bit or is that just a separate small bit?
it's kind of a trick question
Awesome, I've seen a handful already so think I know what I'm looking for. Thank you guys so much!
your exact example wasn't made by a router at all
Ahhhh haha fair enough
but you can get a similar profile with a router
Yeah that's mainly the plan. Going with what I have haha
