#Unreleased reManager test

lol ran out of disk space, sorry for the wait. Gotta rerun the build
you'd think the 1TB on this laptop would be enough but alas
nope and even spinning rust is too expensive now
nah
vellum lives in your home directory and persists after updates
nice, under Utilities, there's now OS Manager that will let you install 3.25
yep!
oh wait
you can just switch!
ezpz
although... you might want to install 3.25.1.1 to clear off any readmarkable remnents
it will only update the standby
to update both, you'd need to run the install now (Installing onto B), then reboot, then run the install again (which would install onto A)
at what step?
ah might have just been a weird reboot disconnect. Once it's booted, reconnect and see what it says
once you boot into each freshly installed partition, make sure you disable auto-updates via the Maintenance page
you'll have to do that once per partition
🙌
that's normal
there's a built-in 60sec timeout in the hashtab generation script to let everything get loaded
😂
it's funny cause as a dev-y person, if I see a marketing page for a project I think "ewww just gimme the github"
I know a lot of people love YT/video guides, but it always annoys me how they can very easily become outdated
also a little self-promo if you wanna give it a try
https://vellum.delivery/#/package/floating-toolbar
floating https://www.reddit.com/r/RemarkableTablet/comments/1rvj91d/new_update_for_the_floating_toolbar/
think replacement for the pen menu, the erase/selection/undo/redo buttons, and an entirely separate floating menu for layers
and it can let you go ham xD
or you can keep it to the 3 tools you might use
biggest QoL improvement as a user since I've owned mine
especially on the Pro, since you have access to all the colour tools, it should be easier to switch between them imo
oh okay, works
but you have never, ONCE, written on the tablet that was sold on it's writing? 🥴
I vaguely remember it
But I don't remember the twitter ad part
curious how you end up liking Koreader on it vs the scribe
Colour content then?
cause based on the reviews I've seen, the scribe is very much reader-first and rM is very much writer-first
I mean, it's real clear rM has spent no time on the reader software since like 2017
Honestly speaking, after the dev team AMA on reddit, any hopes of proper reader(and mind you, we are only talking epub support, which is already ass), support is very very low from rM's side
yeah same
But tbh
For my kind of reading, it works fine
And I especially like the chrome article-to-epub extension to read on the Move
I do exclusively use rMs to e-read
Was the supernote ever in your radar
I doubt it (re: pinenote)
They are even more writer focused
But one minor advantage they have had is native kindle support, as in, it runs android, so go crazy on apps
But I have found it kinda sketch how old the android versions tend to be
I genuinely wanna see the ad you saw on twitter
Cause I was never once "sold on" rM about their reader capabilities
what a time to be alive
non-android, there aren't a lot of options. Someone in this discord has a pine note I think
Which is funny cause rM has historically overestimated the battery life
The 2 weeks are literally counted as 1hr per day for 10 days(business basically)
But rM drains much faster when you use it for what its sold for
Writing
nah
E readers are almost always static per page and can basically fall asleep
While the rM is constantly updating when you write
I mean, any stylus layer will burn battery. I don't think it's much different between EMR and active
Only the active stylus hardware
But the bigger hog is the screen
What of the FPGA, I wonder
rmpp is chock full of magnets
I'm not sure about static, the screen is just a TFT backplane like any other display, but it operates are pretty high voltage so it might induce some static
48v between the lowest and highest voltage if I recall correctly
I’m curious, after you got the rmpp and didn’t like it did you consider just returning it, since they have a decently long return period?
ah yep
Ahh
The minor irony that to avoid amazon, you bought from amazon
Have any distro in mind?
I do wonder what inclined you to the "don't go for anything systemd"
Cause some of the linux circle-jerks are knees deep in their own schtick
wat
systemd isn't spyware, it's an init system
remarkable sends very little interesting telemetry
you might like to talk to GNU/Chud guy on the matrix
and honestly, I like systemd. resolved can fuck right off though
"mm yes, user used this pen more often"
ezpz
Huh??
I haven't observed an rM tablet connecting to any wifi I didn't expressly press the Connect button for
I don't assume about what telemetry it sends out, I have those packet captures.
Artix (arch without systemd), alpine, etc
I can't find any autoconnect paths in xochitl either
alpine is hardly a desktop distro 😂
that's fucking exhausting
This level of paranoia is better off in my sci fi dystopia novel thankyouverymuch
someone here is
I'll just point out that you ran an .exe a stranger on the internet gave you. Chip-level exploits are unnessesary
To that extent is....
I will agree there is a lot of exploitation on the internet and social media and all
But that's a different scale
Have you, at least once, entered a sensitive info on that computer
Cause if so....
anywho, I'm done here. ✌️
