#I recently bought the remarkable 2 and I think it came with the wrong software

Nothing sounds out of the ordinary for what you are describing
When you export and view on your computer or phone you'll see the colour.
or if you screen share to a computer you can see the colors "live"-ish
I was not expecting color on a colorless screen. I don't want to be required to use an additional colored device to function properly
This version is amazing (which is what it used to be) :

Here I can actually choose which grade of black/white I want
And if I really wanted color it's called e.g. "exported blue", so I know it's required to have another device

This is tip number 9 here of Remarkable 2 Tips and Tricks.
it is possible downgrade to older firmware/software releases if you want the legacy interface
That probably comes with the cost of not able to sync data?
I think you can still sync with the cloud, you just need to disable automatic updates
codexctl is the tool, if you find it on GitHub there is some pretty good documentation and examples on Reddit and in the channels here
nope
they support only the last 3 versions or so for cloud
sometimes further back
…wym grade of b/w
You don’t need an “additional” colour device. The point of colour is to let you export the file with it, or view it from their apps
Plus, the blue/red are slightly different shades of gray on the device so you could tell them apart
I see no point on downgrading the firmware to lose cloud, AND a bunch of features(straight lines, new tools, SHAPES, second tool preset, etc)

So the answer doesn't have to continue to get out of date that people find
I just started reading the docs on downgrading and looked into the settings and saw that there was a beta program, I tried that one and it turns out that the new version 3.17 added the black/grey/white options back in! (or maybe i didnt check properly on 3.16)
How do I mark this as solved?
Discord doesn't have a way to mark threads as resolved, just close them.
That said, just so you are aware, one of the things you agree to by entering the beta program is to not install third party software on the device.
So you'll need to leave the beta if you plan on using any third party software on the device.
good to know thanks
if i exit the beta program but im still on 3.17 am i allowed to use third party software?
you'll have to switch to developer mode, 3rd party software isn't really supported by RM at all, the integrations work off the cloud, so if that stops working you'll have to copy in by hand
If that's a beta version, then no
Thanks for the quick replies guys
do note, the only new features were shapes and the colour indicator
