#Distant Horizons LOD pack as download

I see that a lot of people try to generate the complete abyss as distant horizon LOD. instead of everyone doing it for themselves would it be possible for a staff member to autogenerate the LODs and share them with the community?
That would also take a lot of load from the server.

Being able to see the other side of the abyss while playing would be insanely cool

the server isnt impacted at all as its a client side mod that just cached chunks the player loads
also making a pack isnt happening as even if its LODs thats essentially a world download
not to mention the time it takes to make is the work of an insane man

yeah the world download part is a valid concern. About the time requirement: I think the plugin allows for auto lod gen in an astronomical radius around the player. So a staff member who has access to the abyss locally could just stand in the m,iddle of each vertical subsection of the abyss and wait for a few minutes for the lods to generate. the chunks themselfs dont have to be loaded. At least for the adventure server this would be an immersive way to open all pathways in the abyss up to the player

the map is just too large, this wont be done sorry

the world download concern would apply no matter who did it
but the mod is allowed due to the fact that it is LODs and anything a player downloads is just a fraction of the map
so providing a full scale LOD is both implausable due to time and breaks that part

And Madi just for completeness sake... there is an option in the config/DistantHorizons.toml called enableDistantGeneration. If set to true this will allow to generate Lods for chunks that are way out of the view distance. Using that it should be relativly easy and fast to generate lods for the abyss. The catch is this feature only works on locally hosted maps. not on Servers. So the lods would have to be generated locally

that option gets already cached chunks

the client has no clue what is in chunks if the server doesnt send it, which it wont further than 10 chunks

That means you have to own the world, so you cant do that on a server or realm. I’m going through the abyss right now and I have to put my render distance at the max server distance, then pass through every chunk, but I have to wait for the entire chunk to render, then wait longer for DH to generate and display the blocks. As for boys concerned about world downloading, I have thought about that before, but the data files are encrypted or at least unopenable without a special application, not to mention it just displays colored blocks. With the variety of colors in Minecraft, it would be completely impossible to rebuild the abyss in another world since it uses basic colors and doesn’t actually store the block type, so it may be concerning, I don’t think it’s anything to worry about if someone like myself shared their LOD file

yes hence mods that dont store it as LODs in unencrypted form are banned and lead to permabans

so we are fine with allowing DH, but yeah it is just aint happening
