hollow musk
#

I pray its good

sweet gazelle
#

Please let it be more Oblivion than Unbreakable

verbal jewel
#

Apparently this is the one that has the breakdown that Will was hyping up on his most recent chat with Nik

light salmon
#

Oh boy i can't wait for the same lorna breakdown as every song since will joined the band

paper torrent
#

I don’t even need to listen to it. I already know that this will be Abysmal Dogshit

hollow musk
#

If its unbreakable ill just turn it off

#

Im tired of pain remains Lorna

#

Go back to the peak era which is Immortal and Flesh Coffin

#

Mix the sounds together man... thats all I ask for

short hare
#

Alr boys whats the word

#

Oh shit. ||This actually feels black metaly at first||

hollow musk
#

Or is it Into Peakblivion?

short hare
#

More like peakblivion

#

GODDAMN

#

||ending breakdown is actually different then the pain remains one||

wintry stratus
#

this song makes me want to get some fucked up but cool looking tattoo

#

i got goosebumps, so i approve of this massively, holy fuck

hollow musk
#

Fucking shit I cant hear it yet

wintry stratus
#

All I'm going to say is, if you can somehow move to at least Singapore, you can listen to it

sweet gazelle
#

....yeah I'mma just wait a bit longer

#

But you guys make me kinda hyped

winter adder
#

Keeping my expectations low but it's nice to finally see some positive feedback

wintry stratus
#

Hopefully it will go public worldwide before the video itself...?

sweet gazelle
#

I'm just gonna bank on midnight local for streaming

hollow musk
#

FUCK SHIT FART!!!!!

#

Peak 🥹

graceful geyser
#

alr alr better than unbreakable lmao

wintry stratus
graceful geyser
#

not one of their bests, idc about them going heavier or whatever, we back to strong tho

#

feels like an extended into the earth maybe?

winter adder
#

The first half is pretty forgettable

timid blaze
#

yeah

#

yeah

#

no

#

i dont like this lol

#

but i dont hate it either

#

the symphonics and drums are mixed so fucking loud that i can barely hear the guitar, man

#

the breakdown is pretty cool i guess, sounds like something id hear off immortal but i dont care enough about breakdowns to enjoy the rest of the song as is

#

well, the first breakdown, that 2nd breakdown is monstrous

#

too bad it's the only part of the song id care to listen to

#

i feel like id enjoy this far more if this song was 3 or 4 minutes

#

it'd actually be sick if they had a song where they drop the symphonics and just do brutal, evil sounding shit like that outro for its run time

surreal ledge
#

it is kinda hard to hear guitar

#

I like this chorus riff

#

I was jus hoping this album would be a lil different than the last but oh well

#

Will still sounds great tho

#

it's pretty relentless tho

#

this is actually a good solo tho

#

this is the second time where the song doesn't feel as long as it is to me for some reason

timid blaze
#

truth be told, on a second listen, im enjoying this more than i initially did

surreal ledge
#

wow kicks go crazy here at the end

timid blaze
#

i just wish the guitar was louder

#

that's my 1 big complaint

surreal ledge
#

goddamn this is heavy

#

okay now that is a good breakdown
whether or not it sounds like regular Lorna now that is still a good ass breakdown

#

honestly I think I like this the best of the 3. oblivion is really good tho (for what it is)

timid blaze
#

yeah i think i like this more than oblivion

#

this breakdown man

#

i keep running it back

#

it's so lethal

surreal ledge
#

austins kicks hurt

#

this shit jus makes me laugh it's so ridiculous

#

there's a difference between jus making random stupid sounds and then actually making heavy shit

this is heavy shit

#

(for a breakdown I mean)

surreal ledge
#

death portrait is still one of Lorna's best songs

you can @ me too I don't give a shit
that chorus is INSANELY catchy for a deathcore song. the guitar is so fucking good and the ending breakdown is RELENTLESS

winter adder
#

Well ok this one is def better than the last one, tho still not at all interesting for me

#

I can't even form a complete opinion on this, I don't really feel anything with this one

#

"Ok that happened"

#

How do I even rate this

#

Slightly above mid

#

Like 6/10 maybe?

#

The guitar mixing problem is really apparent, as mentioned above

#

Nothing stands out in particular apart from that

#

Oh yeah and it feels kinda indecisive with experimentation attempts

#

7 minutes are kinda unwarranted here

sweet gazelle
#

Good song, works well with Oblivion

verbal jewel
#

Hot take, but bear with me. I wonder how many of the issues that people have with a lot of Lorna’s output are less because of Lorna themselves and more Josh Schroeder. For him, heavier = more midi notes. And the production and mixing issues remind me a bit of Signs of the Swarm - another band that’s (imo) suffered at his hand

light salmon
#

Never thought I'd see the day where the breakdown of a lorna song was more interesting than the rest of it

#

Also the intro sounds incredibly similar to the intro of Dante by Northlane

#

Probably not gonna return to this much

verbal jewel
light salmon
#

Like 40 seconds into this

#

Sound is nearly identical to one in Dante intro

late hill
#

decent track, don't hate it

#

vid is cool tho

wintry stratus
#

The clip makes the entire thing even better

#

I personally like the "sensory overload" sound that Lorna has, and they turned it up to 11 with the breakdown at the end

#

It just blows up my ear and I'm all for it

glacial osprey
#

similar to welcome back, I like it

gilded gyro
#

Holy peak

short hare
#

Song is apparently about dementia

light salmon
#

Is that why it's so forgettable

winter adder
hollow musk
#

9

#

Best i can say honestly

#

We are back into the right direction

graceful geyser
#

yea Id say like 8/10 but we solid

Listened again. Still think it's fine, doesnt touch Oblivion but at least not as bad as Unbreakable.

timid blaze
#

legitimately my only complaint is the guitar mix

#

but it doesnt completely take it away from me? im unsure why

sweet gazelle
#

My main issue is that barely anything is memorable. With SOI or Whitechapel I have so many riffs and rhythms that flood my mind when I think of these albums but these singles? Oblivion chorus comes to mind everything else is just....eh, it's there, couldnt tell you anything specific but I'm sure Will does some vocal olympic type stuff near the end while Austin blasts I guess

timid blaze
#

i actually really enjoy the chorus of this song a lot

hollow musk
#

Its like doing the best of immortal and mixing a bit of pain remains into it

#

Very good blend

#

But nothing better than immortal

surreal ledge
#

but yea I get that

#

Whitechapel does deathcore a lil differently too
most Lorna now is symphonic and like speed

#

soi mixes it up a lot with like from ruin we rise and generally has slower chunky songs

#

the newest slow chunky song I can think from Lorna is soulless existence

#

and that's it

#

you'd have to go back to like the Maleficium EP and life of fear for a different sound

#

I actually think Maleficium is a great EP and Godmaker is extremely underappreciated

#

it's also very creepy

#

I love tom, and even tho his vocals aren't my favorite in Lorna, he was the last of actually different music with Lorna

I say this as an extreme Immortal enjoyer and a pretty big fan of pain remains too

#

which is why SOI has more to the table when it comes to difference in songs
I do wish Lorna would have slower small groove based moments, because they were absolutely SHINE but
people still meat ride them slightly when it doesn't really sound that unremarkable

#

they have some absolutely peak deathcore songs but they are not the best
Suicide Silence, Whitechapel, Chelsea Grin, and Shadow Of Intent are all more unique and expressive forms of deathcore if you ask me (again I'm still a big fan of Lorna saying this)

#

holy rant sorry

paper torrent
#

I prefer the real Immortal.

sweet gazelle
#

And for the record, I mostly agree

inland maple
#

Loved how "Prison of Flesh" refers to "Flesh Coffin."

light yacht
#

Good track, album is shaping up nicely. I think at this point it's impossible for Adam to write a solo I don't dig

#

Also I really do find it funny that the guys just refuse to change wardrobe for the music videos

quaint bear
#

This is dope

#

I can't wait for the album

hollow hatch
#

nice for them to slow it down and make a little more radio friendly song xdd

wintry stratus
#

I just hope the rest of the album will be at least this good so I can expand the vinyl collection 🙏

wet pollen
glacial osprey
#

subdrop in last breakdown sounds insane

sick orbit
#

I wanna like the new stuff but it’s just pain remains copy paste I end up skipping through the chorus cause all of them are basically the exact same and just listen to the breakdowns

proper dirge
timid blaze
#

you're so based for breakdown of sanity

exotic stratus
#

Chat is this song better than the last 2?

timid blaze
#

yes

#

im ngl it may be my favorite lorna song lmao

light salmon
#

First one is the only one I liked

#

Unbreakable is better than this imo

timid blaze
#

i really cant agree

#

unbreakable was beyond boring

light salmon
#

That's where I'm at with this lol

dark sun
#

idk song wise if this is my favorite, but music video wise abso fucking lutely

wintry stratus
#

Unbreakable is a radio positive festival anthem at best lol

pseudo lodge
#

Each day I’m more and more convinced that everyone who complains about the mix just have shitty speakers

timid blaze
#

it's not about quality lol

#

the guitar is just poorly mixed

pseudo lodge
#

define poorly

#

also Josh Schroeder actually knows how to not drown out the bass in a metal mix which actually kinda makes him my fav producer

winter adder
# pseudo lodge define poorly

Poorly as in I can't clearly hear and tell it apart from the other instruments regardless of gear and EQ settings being used to listen to the song

pseudo lodge
#

guitar has the entire upper midrange-treble area to show itself in, and it always has been in almost every mix from basically every band except maybe some super staticy old ones

timid blaze
#

the drums are significantly louder

#

keep in mind, i do legitimately love this song

#

but it's a major complaint i have with it (and a complaint i tend to have with lorna in general)

pseudo lodge
#

If I was listening to the song on phone speakers, guitars and vocals would be the only audible part of the song left (and any song in general)

#

drowned out foundational bass has always been a complaint of mine in almost every metal mix ever, even some mixes that a lot of people think are good mixes "I can hear the guitar so clearly" when the guitar's lower fundamentals in the upper bass region were muddying out the actual sub, house shaking bass so tiny phone/computer speakers can sound slightly more deeper, like m8 it's not always about the damn guitars and vocals

pseudo lodge
#

until I heard Shadow of Intent's Primordial/Reclaimer, then Lorna's Flesh Coffin/Immortal, then solidifying more sub bass love in Pain Remains/Everblack. Also aside from the bass guitar, literally the breakdowns of Sleeping Dreamer, Into the Earth, Apotheosis and Wrath can earthquake my whole fucking house, and now the same with Prison/Peakblivion

verbal jewel
#

I disagree pretty strongly about the mix, but the production also comes into the argument. The “more is better” approach to the synths and orchestra nearly eliminate any forward progress regarding guitar clarity. The loudness of the drums and the relative high-pitched nature of the kick triggers interfere with the bass upper and guitar lower. Finally, the human phenomenon of being attracted to the highest frequencies makes the orchestra sound louder than it actually is. For example, the strings and horns in Unbreakable are perceived as almost as loud as Will’s vocals. And all of this is in addition to my gripes with how Schroeder (imo) took a big backwards step with the SOTS sound on ATLOE and apparently this new album.

winter adder
pseudo lodge
#

Amongst the Low and Empty was also another mix I really liked with the super clear bass and house rumbling breakdowns, but until now I didn't realize Schroeder was part of the mix of that, which now makes sense

timid blaze
#

i really cannot get behind the new sots singles

#

which sucks

#

because musically they're great but the mix turns me away

winter adder
#

The mix on the last 4 singles is pretty flat, unclear and muddy

pseudo lodge
#

cap

timid blaze
#

you know it's possible to like something while acknowledging its flaws right lol

pseudo lodge
#

of course

#

I just disagree on what the flaws are

verbal jewel
#

I guess I’d call the mixes artificial. It takes a sound that’s already heavily enhanced/changed with things like triggers, quantization, etc and makes it even less humanely relatable. To me, Schroeder’s mixes reach a point where it makes no difference whether things are played by actual people or just computer generated.

pseudo lodge
#

like I think prison could use slightly more subbass

verbal jewel
#

And yes, this take is informed by the multiple sound sources test - headphones, speakers, and full on sound systems

winter adder
# pseudo lodge cap

Compare IWONTLETYOUDIE and HELLMUSTFEARME back to back. There's a huge step down in terms of impact, volume and clarity. The latter overlaps vocals and instruments significantly while being a flat line the whole way through in terms of frequency and tonal variety

verbal jewel
winter adder
#

So he IS able to make a great mix

verbal jewel
#

At least according to Spotify credits, which are sourced from Century Media…

winter adder
pseudo lodge
#

just listened to all the sots singles back to back, all so fucking solid. Imo that also goes for the mixes as well, except Clouded Retinas. (Edit: relistened on the sound system and also now agree that IWONTLETYOUDIE’s mix is the best one out of them holy shit)

The bass guitar on Clouded Retinas is much more drowned out than everything else for some reason. Apparently it's the completely opposite case live where the bass actually pounds on that song, or so I heard idk, doesn’t stop me from having it on repeat tho. Imo Josh did the best mixing in ATLAE and IWONTLETYOUDIE, where EVERYTHING is crystal clear, more balanced, and fucking pounds at the same time

#

Lorna's new Everblack album so far is my most favorite from him, how Moke's bass and also Austin's blast beats are both equally clear without trying as much to fight each other, especially in the choruses.

#

In Pain Remains, the drums and synths were so fucking punishing, but kinda at the cost of the bass, oppositely so in AIRTN where the bass and synths were much more clear but the drums didn’t have nearly as much oomph. In Immortal he actually did better than the EP but not as heavy drums as PR. Pretty damn glad he and Andrew started working together.

#

in none of these cases have I ever found the guitar or the vocals too muddied, which is basically almost impossible to find for any metal mix except boomer old school ones.

#

Lorna shore one of my top fav 😁❤️‍🔥🤟🏻
