#Synestia/Disembodied Tyrant - The Poetic Edda (EP)
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
Never understood the hate for lorna, their music fire.
+plus without lorna, disembodied tyrant prolly doesn't exist in my opinion
no
yes
Lorna may be the biggest band with that style but they definitely aren't the first and by far not the best
I don't hate Lorna, I just think Synestia and Disembodied Tyrant did symphonic deathcore better.
it's fair to say lorna popularized that sound
a lot of bands are doing it better than Lorna
^this tbh
not to say i dislike lorna
i loved their ep
their album was pretty annoying
imo, anyways
but i do love will ramos and i love austin archey
Idk I just think without lorna, a lot of these bands wouldn't be as popular without lorna making the genre bigger
Just my opinion tho
i mean there's no telling either way
i dont agree solely because lorna themselves are FAR more popular than these other bands
lorna have nearly 10x the amount of monthly listeners compared to synestia
i wouldnt say we're only talking about their ep because lorna popularized symphonic deathcore
Let's not forget the OGs of symphonic deathcore Winds of Plague.
mhm
and other bands who were/are still quite big in the deathcore community like Shadow of Intent
Well without lorna making the genre popular, people prolly wouldn't have searched for more in the genre. Not saying lorna is the only reason, but they are a huge part of the reason
again there's just no saying either way
i dont imagine a lot of people look up symphonic deathcore because lorna made it popular
if there's anything that bands have def done more because of lorna though
it's their got damn breakdowns lol
tremolo picking and blasting non stop
which can be cool but holy shit it's so overdone now
it existed before as well but not to this degree, i dont think
mostly because a lot of breakdowns back then were just "0... 0... 0... 1..."
Another good older one is - As god is my Witness
now it's just "000000000000000000000"
Never heard of that one!

lets maybe like...just focus on the bands this thread is named for lol
all i'll say is that i don't consider Lorna Shore comparisons not only because hearing that said is getting old, but every other band in this conversation is a completely different kind of symphonic so its not even fair. Lorna is symphonics weaved into the background as an added layer with black metal influence, this Synestia/DT EP is beyond symphonic, very classical (obviously, they covered Vivaldi lol), and Shadow of Intent's kind of symphonic is different as of late compared to how they used to do it. before it was (no shit) very Halo-esque, in the latter half of their discography its like a melodeath band gone symphonic, with some serious Fleshgod Apocalypse influence
We have 62 emojis

YEAAAHAHAHAGAHAGSGS
1,500 next
I feel like it would be different without lorna, but they can have a pretty hectic fan base that believes they are the "chosen ones" of metal. A lot of band have that. Lorna popularized the sound sure, but a lot of bands did it better way before lorna did, and iirc lorna did it with immortal firstly... idk. I don't think it would be as big of difference if lorna wasn't as popular
And even still, another band could've popularized it even if lorna never did
Imo, this is the most true symphonic deathcore you can pretty much get out of it
And top quality aswell
You have your Shadow of intents, worm shepherds, but this one is unique in that since of the truest of all symphony you could get in this genre
And for such a small project/band, they completely bitch slapped a lot of us as to the possibilities of what makes symphonic deathcore
But hey, that's my opinion on the matter. Not do discredit shadow and other various symphonic deathcore bands, because they each so a fantastic job with the music they make
I said it earlier and i'll say again i think the most captivating part to me is the storytelling through both lyrics and music
The orchestral/medieval themes in the music and the lyrics telling of the lead up to ragnorok are perfect, as well as the use of deathcore to convey the story
I have no idea what the lyrics are lmao
This absolutely earth-shatteringly heavy music used to tell the tale of the earth literally shattering, lol
On all the videos the lyrics are on screen as like closed captions
which honestly i wish more bands did
also video for I, the Devourer when?????
Oh lol
been on that song since it came out and i'm really happy with where this EP ended up
especially the full dedication to the story
Imagery in winter comes to mind with this
Winter talks about Fimbulvetr, the three-season-long winter immediately preceding ragnorok, and starting with that elk, which in norse myths symbolizes peace and prosperity
and fertility
then cutting to wolves, generally representing chaos and destruction, then skeletons of herds of elk
final transition from the balance of normality to the events of ragnorok
very very cool story
and told in a very very cool way
Yea I've followed this journey since I, The Devourer showed up on my daily mix last year, since then I was waiting patiently to the point if I saw a notification on Spotify regarding the poetic Edda, I screamed while at college waiting for a class.
This was a journey worth waiting for because not only did we get some of, if not, the best symphonic deathcore imaginable, but probably one of the most important pieces of music in modern metal
This did so many things right that more bands should take note of
And for a small band such as disembodied and synestia, they came in and shook the room. These guys deserve all the love and attention they get for this beautiful display of music
but yea.... music
lol
music indeed
does anyone know like which version of the seasons would be the best to listen to
found one we good
which one?
london philharmonic orchestra
really was just trying to find a reputable orchestra that made one with all the tracks and nothing extra
🫡
Music is good
We are so going to get to 1,100
damn thats hella cool
def up there for threads
I am so proud of this community
Goodness golly gee knocked loose almost got a 1000 within the first day
At least we made it to a 1000 before they could.
And with that, this is officially the 1,100th message
Knocked loose better
this ep is a perfect masterpiece, KL is damn amazing but to say it’s better is just wrong, they are both great in their own ways
We could just say disembodied tyrant is the best deathcore, and KL is the best hardcore. Is that to much to ask?
Perfect!
YALL DONE BROKE THE FUNNY NUMBER
Idk about that one
I do
Idrk about everyone's music taste so good for you

GGUUUYYYYSSSSS
THEY FUCKING MADE IT
@sinful obsidian, @fleet salmon THEY FUCKING MADE IT
good lord that is a stacked lineup
Fuck them pyscho frame is on the lineup
What's wrong with psycho frame
I’m saying I’d rather see pyschoframe
the lineup is unreal
funny frame people
never heard of em, worth a listen?
I'd say worth it
bet
SHADOW OF INTENT WHAT
yee
I'm HAPPY THE RED CHORD IS UP THERE
As a half Russian I recognized winter quickly by the intro, it’s a cover by this Russian artist, but thats hilarious I never thought of it going deathcore💀
The song got covered by a Russian artist that made the song back in like 1940-1980, forgot the exact date
Where is this?
ah would make more sense
Yea hearing it brought back memories when I was a kid, best cover of all time ngl
Damn. Guess I’m not going lmao
I found it. It's the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival
he's saying the song was covered by a russian
Wonder if Antonio Vivaldi is related to Angel Vivaldi
asking the same question too lol
btw, is there any album similar to this?
like straight up deathcore/metalcore versions of the classical musics?
not that i know of. the only band similar is Shadow of Intent, but they aren't classical
Intent my shadow
I just got around to this and HOLY FUCK. I'm only into Death Empress and my face is starting to peel off my skull!
Imminence has violin but it's kind of sparse.
Ok, here's the objectively true ranking for this EP: ||Death Empress = I, The Devourer = The Poetic Edda = Winter||
All of this just
FUCKS
You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? The perfect deathcore EP. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.
i share your excitement lol it's the best release so far this year
haven't listened to the KL album yet but i wanna enjoy the poetic edda a bit longer before I do
ngl havent seen alien
Okay this made me want a new SoI record even more than before
yes you do

What happend to this thread? It was so active
what is there left to talk about lol
the day of the loose being knocked happened
I like Knocked Loose, but it has nothing to do with this EP.
I mean more attention went there than here
and honestly, deserved tbh. They beat sleep token's numbers
me funny brain likes the funny music
still listening to this
its not funny at all its insanely impressive
and overall just very evry good
need vinyl now
^^^
Time to message here so people don't forget this amazing accomplishment in deathcore history

It's really really good
even listened while vr gaming it gotta be good
This is probably the most enjoyable deathcore record i’ve listened to
it just fucks in a way others don’t
this and the recent Depths of Baciu album and Ammeona are top 3 deathcore releases this year
darko bout to knock one of those down a notch
I can’t wait for the darko album
Would be fun
But I think we have that emotional song on the record too
It will be fun to listen how they put it in crazy breakdowns and pure filth
wouldnt be the first time
tbh i'm just excited for the track with garrett russel
that's a dream collab right there
I am absolutely in love with this guitar tone, especially the low end is soooooo good
i was listening to the EP in school today
so fucking amazing
i love everything about it
i would like to mentiont that The Divine Stigmata is also quite gas
The obsession's slowly starting
This is now the 4th largest post
Same here
Time to message here so people don't forget this amazing accomplishment in deathcore history
winter is probably one of my favorites
Agreed
I'm a huge sucker for metal versions of classical pieces
this will be a long lasting thing for the future
We need this to surpass sleep token so it can become the 3rd largest post in here
Then we need to wait until sleep token releases another album
How many messages?
1733
We can make that happen
yes
they fucking deserve it
it's some of the best deathcore I have heard in my life
like legit easily top 5 deathcore for me
Might be my number 1 band rn
like i said i hope this brings more attention to The Divine Stigmata as well
absolutely fantastic EP
I need to give this another listen
this better fucking win ep of the year in the nik nocturnal awards
i mean who's gonna beat it
Greyhaven
nah Greyhaven won't be voted as EPOTY anyway, just wanted to share the best EP of the year into the conversation
This gonna be EPOTY.
if anything else wins, I will not only leave the server, but never watch another nik vid again
and I rarely ever watch tbh
im just here for music
Kinda ironic
You're fucking moderator in rock and metal community with 26k members and you're here for music?!
Dayum
But....he isnt a mod?
Idk he is something who can ping everyone
he has every role that we have
so i think we can also ping everyone
who wants to try?
In which server?
we can't and he can't either

Well, I'm here for sharing/discussing music and meeting new people
Nah I'm mod in a different server

i got privately executed
Seems like alex bullied you
it was instant
the bot just kilt me
Oh sad
nah i wouldn't do that lol
also you can't ping everyone either way
it's disabled
only mods and Nik can
Why not?

i can still hear the chugging
and the blast beats
Time to remind everyone of this masterpiece.
Consider me reminded
Death empress last breakdown makes me weak
The levels of anger
Are unmatched
Dude just sounds PISSED
Song is defo going in my try not to headbang for the entire year
This is some good fucking deathcore
Winter to
^me but with most metalcore
me but with all deathcore except this and darko
Good Deathcore: This, Darko, The Acacia Strain, The Red Chord, Whitechapel, Shadow of Intent, As Blood Runs Black, Winds of Plague, early Born of Osiris, early Veil of Maya, Angelmaker, early Bring Me the Horizon, To the Grave
I'm probably forgetting some but that's some bands I know I enjoy
Yeah that’s what I’m saying bro where is the acacia strain at
good list except Darko
Yall talk about them the least
Emmure too
Emmure
Fit For An Autopsy is good
Emmure is its own genre
Emmure's more nu-metalcore tbh
Emmure? Prog?
No, it's just that I would not really consider Emmure to be progressive metalcore
Ahh okay yeah that’s fair
They are nu-metalcore
Yeah they are nu-metalcore though now that I think about it
Mhm
I really like signs of the swarm though
Ngl
Especially death whistle and all of amongst the low and empty
hell no
that also means you agree with that one guys metalcore take
which again hell no
i mean when it comes to modern metalcore alot of it is pretty samey
fair but that doesnt mean its not good or interesting
hating on silent planet in the nik nocturnal discord is a death sentence
Silent Planet is a pretty bad example for uninteresting metalcore lol
i just found the newest album not that interesting
besides the singles
the singles were pretty good
interesting and good is a difference tho
Antimatter is one of the most interesting metalcore songs i know. and songs like Signal, Euphoria and Nexus are interesting too. the new LMTF album for example is not nearly as interesting even tho it's more enjoyable
yeah you make a good point there
I haven't even heard the album from silent planet ngl
gotta listen to it only for Antimatter
Antimatter, Euphoria and Nexus
Collider was my favorite song off of that album, especially with the descending guitar riff.
the chorus is what got me
TASTEFUL autotune is so nice
i feel like the title track on that one is underrated
ik i like emotional stuff a lot more than most people in this server but still
"good list except this" "except that" bruh
some of y'all don't find deathcore interesting, others don't find metalcore interesting, whatever. its not a "bad take" to have a difference of opinion. why are we even talking so in depth about this in the release thread for an EP that's been out for a month. just enjoy the music

You forget, metal community doesn't know what an opinion is
If this was an album, it would not only win aoty for me, but many people will compare it to lorna
Wanna talk about metal community, I can't go two seconds without someone comparing anything symphonic deathcore to lorna

a person in Nik's twitch chat earlier compared the new Oceano to Lorna lol
god
Even Nik himself tried comparing this to Lorna by saying "I usually don't care for bands that try to out Lorna Shore, Lorna Shore"
it's fucking everywhere and I cant even take it
It's like GUYS, NOT EVERY DEATHCORE BAND WITH SYMPHONIC/ATMOSPHERIC ELEMENTS IS LORNA SHORE
as soon as I heard nik say that in the reaction, I just banged my head on my desk

Like, I get a band like [Insert CJ's Band Here] getting called a Lorna Shore clone. That makes sense. Essentially, yes, it is. But a band like Oceano? No. Not in the slightest. At least not with the track I heard.
I didnt even hear it yet
what??
nah you can hear the guitar in the mix its not lorna
all jokes aside it doesnt really remind me of lorna at all
It’s also the noises for breakdowns that people compare to Lorna
Lorna Snore
Imagine hating on Lorna Shore lmao
im not hating
they have good songs on pain remains
but i do have gripes with the music
Fair enough
I don't think I can hate on them, they were my intro to the genre, (which is now my favorite genre)
Just like i can't hate on After the Burial, they were my intro to heavy music
ATB fucks
Saw them opening for ||Knocked Loose-uh I mean|| Motionless, great frontman he had great energy on the stage but then the crowd was just 🧍♂️
Btw, it was specifically Lost in the Static that got me into metal
Ah yes, as nik said, the wee oo song
I'd be like hanging w my buddy or walking to my dorm or just walking around and he would play the harmonic riff like quietly or from a distance
fucked w me for like 3 months
I prefer their older stuff ngl
But lost in the Static was the first metalcore song I ever heard, 2nd was Their is no business to be done on a dead planet by all shall perish, the 3rd song I ever heard was In dying days by As blood runs black
I love atb, and their older stuff has a lot better guitar riffs
I do love their most recent album tho
This is a great ep but i don’t think it would keep my interest for an entire record
It’s better as it is
I feel like they could do more with an album
probably about 8-10 songs maybe
nothing too crazy
like Darko
honestly, these two collabs are very interesting and are rather unique for what they are trying to do. I feel like if they do get together again, they could get something a lot better
Darko is aoty atm
But it has way more variety than this so it doesn’t get stale despite its length
def
nothing can really come close to beating darko this year
unless by the grace of god a band releases something never heard before
they keep assuring that they will this year
I still gotta go through their stuff
not sure what loathe will drop tho. Could be more ambient stuff, could be more metalcore stuff, who knows
but I hear nothing but good things
And every artist who’s heard stuff from it says it’s the second coming of jesus
their discog has no real pattern or consistency
We know it’s not an ambient album lmao
so i am intrigued to hear what htey have to put out but am not expecting I let them in 2.0
well yea i was joking w that one 💀
point still stands tho. they have a sound for each album but not really truly for the band themselves
It’s probably gonna be some crazy evolution of their sound
Hmm
That’s not exactly true
They def fit into like
Heavier shoegaze
With more ambience
maybe I have to listen to cold sun again but it is very different from i let it in and it took everything. I could be trippin balls cause its been a while but I remember little to no shoegaze on cold sun, then I let them in has golden example modern shoegaze
The cold sun and prepare consume both have those elements too
prepare consume is what I haven't listened to enough
Idk we’ll see
yea there's truly no telling
I’m expecting a late year release
Singles prolly gonna start rolling out around aug/sept
Then release nov or smth
just gonna wait and see
Same here.
did you happen to be at the orlando show bc the crowd there SUCKED and I hope it was an isolated event
No, I was in Milwaukee with a friend. Crowd was great there.
Literally will turn you into snow
day whatever of saying this is the best deathcore of the year
Real
fr
Real
I hate this because it's so good that everything else is just ass
blake said he loves you guys
Guys Mirar might be rivaling this for EP of the year
Which makes me sad because this is so good
Look man I'm still undecided here
I need convincing that this is better than the new Mirar drop
They’ll convince you with their guns
this is just me, but i don't see how Mirar is better. the only compelling track from that EP is the last song. i'm not a thall fan, although i usually don't mind it. but the Mirar EP is just...guitar noises. and its the same guitar noises continuing over and over for each song, and with no vocals. some cool moments overall, but it was just overkill. too much
I can definitely see where you are coming from
Both are heavily inspired by classical works, but they each take a very different approach to it
I really enjoy listening to the Poetic Edda a lot, but Mare just tickles something in my brain.
Idk they are both works of art in their own right
you just described thall👍

I like thall for the most part. I didn't hear the ep fully other than snippets
But my preference for thall is vocals aswell. Mirar is goated so far, but inreally wish it had vocals to top it off
yea i showed this thread to him last night
was suprised how interactive everyone is about it
Theres been alot of misconceptions of how serious this ep was supposed to be and hes glad this thread is just about the songs instead of trying to find some undercover meaning in the musics
its just supposed to be orchestral infant on steriods and 10 buckets of horse semen

As it should be
I don't really study or look at hidden meanings myself for music, especially deathcore
I hear funny Vivaldi, my brain goes vroom
Death core lyrics aren't that great alot of the time
But these lyrics were fun to read
Really interesting stuff
It's not serious which is nice
Is it bad that I still don't know the lyrics to the songs except for a few parts in winter
Need less serious songs in metal
yea he took my writing style from stigmata and turned away from christian stuff into nordic shit
He nails it heavily!
yea hes a genius
I read them
Over time, you can pick up on certain words if you are used to the genre
I can do that for some stuff but not fully
Funniest thing was when he told me he was writting the nordic ep the only thing we knew about vikings came from god of war ragnarok lel

LMAO I COULD TELL
we both played it and was like dude you have to write a song about this shit its too sick
holy shit
ye i be doin dem screamy tings
that is cool asf
We do a little anger here and there
Tell Blake that we all collectively love his stuff and can't wait to hear what more he does in the future!!
also the fact that i love Dehumanizing Itatrain Worship
(I hope he covers Mozart next)
We want more
Oh i dont think theres no more covers coming BUT big big big shit is on the way
👀
the reception of the ep was not unnoticed at all and super big boomy bams is otw
it like wont but its a good thing tho cuz the new stuff is better
666 monthly listeners lmao
he pretty much peaked at whats possible with symphonic classical music
im messing that up rn
same it looks cool asf
Well that's subjective I enjoy orchestral death core more then anything
i didnt even notice that
being better than this ep would be difficult
im gonna listemn to it now
trust me he blew this ep out of the park with the new stuff
u cant you'll mess up the 666
Yea, imo this is what peak symphonic deathcore is
lmao
You probably can't say much but I'm hoping for symphonic elements
I'm excited now
I'll definitely be on the lookout for anything new when he posts it!
hes transcending how brutal deathcore can get. Like that jump from 2012 deathcore everyone was doing then Infant annihilator came out and completely changed everything
wait so did u do vocals for the ep or u were with disembodied tyrant before this
i havent been paying attention
I did vocals for the eclipse pt 1 ep and The divine stigmata
The Poetic Edda is blakes first release solo without my involvement whats so ever
literally he shitted on everything and is continuing to
Hes a king and will continue to be trucking on to piss on the scene no CJ

Question tho. Will Blake be exploring different themes lyrically or stylistically? Like let's say Egyptian or medieval type of stuff?
Like really push the boundaries of this genre?
Hell yeah, give me that symphonic deathcore mythology saga
That would be so freakin dope holy shit
I cant say just know you wont be disappointed
your not thinking big enough but its there
Egyptian
Shokran?
I'm looking forward to it
holy moly
dayum we reached the artist ❤️
please telll him to produce more stuff
Us trying to keep this discussion alive. Day whatever. Banger Album. Just relistened the poetic edda. Still way to good for this world
Honestly, I dont need this thread alive, this EP is living in my head rent free and I'm loving it
And its already half of 2024
I love music
fr
Same
Blake just turned Disembodied Tyrant from a solo project to a band, with the guitarist and drummer of Fallujah!
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

bro
if they tour in my city
I will buy tickets in a heartbeat
like im not even joking
they could cost $1000 and I'll pay to see them
also this
we are about 200 away from beating Sleepy Token
LETS DO THIS
thank you Ember, much appreciated
LET'S GOOOO
Ayooooo
TIL Disembodied Tyrant was a solo project
winter's breakdown🤤
spooky breakdowns are the way to go
we want our ancestor to be included too
randomly obsessed with this EP all over again
i never stopped
Same
I've played it so many times that one of it's songs might get most played song this year
Greyhaven is still a very close contender for me
Winter is by far my most played song of the year
it has to be
if it isnt
then life is over
Tru
i know at least Death Empress will be part of my spotify wrapped
Can an EP get AOTY? After this, I sure think so
Ep gets EOTY lol
This whole ep will be in my wrapped
yeah ima listen again
i just wish there was a video for devourer to complete the cinematic short film 😔
there was gonna be one put out but those things are expensive af to make
too get over 50 clips about the same shit all in 4k with no stutters or copyright is an impossible task in of its self
but to buy all of the clips and then edit them together in 4k cost well over the budget
that is totally fair tbh, I'm honestly glad we got the ones we did. Would be cool for it to be complete but definitely doesn't have to be, it still fucks hard either way
Wouldnt be surprised if these would end up being my top 4 songs on Wrapped this year tbh
Been listening daily for like 3 weeks now
Nvm....twice a day in many cases such as today. Might become 3, idk
All other deathcore just sounds like shit compared to this
^thats a stretch, as much as i love this EP
Kind of but also not really.
I'm fr, whenever I listen to anything deathcore I'll just be thinking about this the entire time instead
thats crazy
I aint proud
I'm just a deathcore lover at this point
This ep is by far some of the best deathcore I've heard
But I have other bands I like and even smaller projects I think more should know about aswell
But my god this ep just set a bar for what symphonic deathcore should reach towards
Guitar goes tulululu and dum dum
Petition to make Winter the official deathcore Christmas song when?
i already added it to my christmas metal playlist
Brojob would like to have a word with you
You guys have Christmas metal Playlist?
Not Deathcore, but August Burns Red makes good Christmas metal

Very melodic good music
Winter will always be in my top 5
I love that song so much
yes
apparently some guy named Vivaldi made a violin cover of it
They actually made Winter scary
like the last part of the song literally made me nervous
No way actually?
That's crazy. Maybe it will become famous someday
Dam can’t believe he learned the song that quick
Bro this has been out for a whole 2 months
Plus theirs sheet music for it
Cause it’s a actual piece
Oh yeah that choir adds alot
Wait are you trolling
Vivaldi wrote winter - four seasons....
Ohhh wait...
Syn and tyrant just based the song off of winter
I'm stupid you made a joke
Oh satan pick me
Fr
hav to keep the thread alive
No
We really don’t gotta keep a thread alive💀
Ues
This kind of started with the Knocked Loose thread, (and I'm ashamed to say that I myself played a part in it) and has since only spread to other threads and it's only starting to get annoying. Sometimes a conversation is over as everything is said. This is one of those cases
thread 👍
gotta agree here, insane EP but there is no more to be said
I think it should be said more about how everything is already said
How many messages to go?
Just beating a dead horse at this point.
Cool
this is me basically listening to winter
Messages

i want to be productive with my messages but there is NOTHING i can say that hasn’t been said 6 times
But
Winter is the best song on the ep
Keep this thread active

MY FINAL WISH IS TO LET THIS DIE AT 2000
it lived a long life
but now it will be remembered as one of the greatest threads, best deathcore release of the year, peak deathcore, and best EP of 2024
it shoulda died at 1500 or so
the main goal from the start was to beat sleep token
we've achieved that
i STILL can’t figure out if i like this more than greyhaven
now we must die at 2000
Both eps are sooo gooood
i'm biased for symphonic deathcore, so this mixing classical elements checked every box i could ever imagine
Yeah definitely same
but Greyhaven is the best metalcore released this year
almost wanna give them both #1
Get it to 2024 to mark it as the song of 2024

we need Don to be the final message for that then
Perfect send off to this masterpiece
Nah
We
Need
The
Final message
