#Vocals

bad vocals for me today. still trying to add my voice under my fry
and i here i am trying to do voiceless screams and failing 🤣
sounds good imo
singing is so bad
nah just keep working on it, you'll get very good i can tell
screaming is already pretty good, would sound great with processing on it
I'm right there with you mane
Dang, that sounds awesome 👍
"Boo" ahhhhh you scared me
I tried to focus more on my breath support, what am I doing wrong and how can I fix it?
Sorry for the spit lol
@patent lintel @storm yew?
Still trying to be more open in the back of the throat and the oral cavity, the second position seemed better then the first
Ok thanks 👍
Fun fact: my stepdad knows and was at some point good friends with CJ(the singer to Lorna Shore before Will). It cones with a funny story. My stepdad and a couple of his friends made a band called United by Hate(he was the drummer to the band), and while they were together, they helped Signs of the Swarm with getting more popular. During this, CJ was the vocalist for it. Ben, the vocalist for United by Hate gave CJ vocal techniques while CJ sand for SotS. Eventually, CJ left SotS and joined Lorna Shore, where, while on tour with the band Will Ramos was in before he became LS's singer, he told Will the techniques he learned from Ben. Will then replaced CJ as singer after legal stuff happened.
Bonus fact: The drummer to SotS, Bobby, stole my stepdad's drum module and still hasn't given it back.
It's been years.
2nd bonus fact: Googling Cory Torcasi will show a Metal Archives web page about my stepdad. Creepy.
cool\
i dont doubt their range but it's prob just quieter bc of the compression/reverb
Vocals sound Eh
Doing my highs/snarls but with lyrics
Here is my 1 take of judgement day - spite
Just realized the video is synched really bad, but hey, it’s still my 1 take
damn, those screams improved fast
Does this sound good?
@patent lintel last time u told me I push too hard but this feel really light idk if I should just change my technique or what lmao. Ik I still have my voice in it but as a female I always think too much like "It's not low and lound enough" The sensation is different to the previous one tho but idk
You have a different accent then I thought you would
Good sounding scream, I'm not going to jump in if it's healthy or not.
Finnish accent, I can do even worse lmao
Ah that's Finnish, cool.
@patent lintel thoughts?
Yeah I always TRY to keep that in mind haha
Sounds good
Nice! I always get so choked up doing these kinda vocals😩
This one is my favorite
Oo nice!!
about what i thought
There is no standard yet for what is a good sound and a bad sound in metal it's just to new... Singing has been around for couple thousand years and documented so we are able to be like no that is a bad sound but we can do that with metal yet.
It's just if you can make a crazy sound we let it slide.
and as long as u do it safely
Yes
I mean I have a nuanced approach to this. I’m happy with my screams rn. I got here by experimenting with my voice, and most famous vocalists do the same thing I do. Experiment with your voice. Yeah, hurt it, but if it hurts, find a different way. Don’t be afraid to hurt yourself, but don’t have hurting yourself be your main thing when you scream. The only way to know how to properly scream is to fail, and fail, and fail again
BTW why does everyone keep wantting to know what I think? I'm just another dude who is trying to learn shit too. I don't know much more than y'all and everything I learned I got from videos that y'all could watch too.
26 second scream 😩😩😩
Seems like you generally know your stuff more then the majority here
I see where you're coming from.. but let's be honest, you're definitely a natural when it comes to Metal vox. Even though you're not in a big band, and you don't make a ton of money from a YouTube channel about screaming vocals, it's pretty obvious that you know what you're doing with your screams. And for people like me, you seem like the best choice of person to get a second opinion from when it comes to screaming vox. But that's just the way I see it.
Also not sure how old you are but getting good screams until your vocal folds are fully formed which is around adolescent age... until then it's mostly learning how to do it safely and finding the positions that work.
As well with the recent thing shown in here, raw vocals sound nothing like the final production and for a lot of us we get stuck in a trap thinking we can sound like them despite they can't even sound the way they do.
I'm about to be seventeen.. and I passed the adolescent age way earlier than most others normally do.
I hot puberty when I was 9, early or not still need a lot of development.
👍 Good luck on developing 😎
Here are some lows I tried out
does this sound better than usual?
BTW people if you wanna know what I do to practice is just do the shit I know how to do for like ten minutes and experiment for five minutes and then I'm done with practice
I don't practice for more than like 20 minutes most days
A little thing that just personally I have been told not to do by my vocal teacher is the pulling the lips back... It doesn't change the sound but more the direction and it directs it more towards yourself which is why I even used to do it you get a clearer sound directed towards your ears rather then forward.
It's fine to do just you get not as much projection forward, cupping your ear with the tips of your fingers and aiming that cup towards your mouth, it just let's you hear what you are doing without loosing the projection.
If you have a different reason for doing it feel free to share I'd be interested in it.
That sucks a lot.
Reason I do those is because I'm trying to have it sound more open with the "grizzly tunnel". With that vocal it's less about getting low and more about getting a rounder sound.
You get more of a guttural if you put your lips over your teeth
at least for me
I don't really care about projection TBH
i need help getting better highs
Make it nasal
Don't just make it a higher pitch go nasal and it will make it sound like a higher not than it normally would
Those highs
I don’t know how to do that
@patent lintel those really nasal highs you did in that Dropbox video are what BVDLVD uses.
Dang chat is dead rn
my new bands first ep if anyone is interested in hearing my vocals

As the earth swallows us whole
I see the world begin to end
as a new one unfolds
The light collapses into darkness
as the trees turn into stone
Is this how it ends
the world we all used to know
where are your prophets
can't you see the world is ending
There is no stopping
We were meant for nothing
As the earth swallows us whole
as the skies ab...
Idk
Do a well actually voice
I'm not a natural. I just dedicated two years to learning this and practicing almost every day
majority of what I watch on youtube is about music or doing vocals.
Oh, I thought you said it took 21 months to get Vocals like that. Still cool AF dude!
21 months is almost two years
LMAO I'm so freaking stupid 🤣
Besides that's just my guess for when I started cause Idk when I started to actually try to scream. I could have been earlier but I'm not sure
I've been trying to figure out different types of screams for 2 years, and the only progress I've made is getting a screaming mentor who just recently told me that I'm doing my Dag Kargyraa correctly.
Thoughts?
Sounds pretty interesting, the Dag Kargyraa
One of my favorite songs by them.
I've got new cover here
Any thoughts on this?
Those are some pretty solid lows, but the high screams need more work. Also, WTF was that foot movement LMAO
Had a bad vocal day
Dancing, because the song gets me hyped
Believe me, it was worse in the Born of Osiris cover I recorded.
Well now I wanna see that BoO cover lol. I didn't like that VoM song very much, literally every song by BoO is better.
But that's just my opinion lmao
Dude there is no such thing as a bad vocal day. There are days where you improve and days where you practice the stuff you know. No day is bad unless you destroy your voice
It’s bad because I can’t do yells like I did a few days ago
At the request of Mr. Blurryface:

From my fifth favorite album, "The Discovery."
This is the first part of my vocal tutorials. I want them to be quick to the point and overall helpful. If you want further depth on these types of vocals add me on Facebook (Austin Dickey) and i'll help you out!!

Austin's old tutorials are pretty good
🤣 I'm at a Super Bowl party right now, but I'll be sure to watch that ASAP
I just watched it! Nice vocals, and nice dance moves as well
Thank you lol
Still sounds like crap, but I think I might be making some progress at voiceless FC distortion
Also, I'm super relaxed while doing those screams
And my base for this distortion is still Dag Kargyraa
It definitely is getting better
@storm yew @patent lintel Thanks! Still taking advantage of any time I get in the car!
Yeah I definitely think I'm improving
Sounding good
Focus on your breathing. Try to support it more with your diaphragm and keep everything loose but controlled
Aight, I'll be sure to focus more on those things. Thanks man!
Focus on everything. These are just more things to keep in mind.
Ahh gotcha
There's a lot of stuff that you have to remember when doing vocals. After practicing it for a while they just become muscle memory, but it takes a while to get that muscle memtory
Aight. RN the two main things that I'm tryna drill is breathing from my diaphragm, and being able to do Kargyraa without any effort. Because I always need to breath from my diaphragm, and if I can do Kargyraa, then I already have my FC distortion.
@patent lintel Do you have any advice as to how I can make my screams sound less dry and crackly, and more "wet" sounding?
Some "snarls" if u can call them that
Those sound wild, man. But how loud can you do that? Sounds a little bit quiet to me..
Those slow ones not very loud but if I put my throat into me I can be quite loud.
Nice 👌
Can anyone tell me what kind of FC growl is being used by this band?
https://open.spotify.com/artist/2JWxRGdcsFqn5j9gYKjNF0?si=KCFuUW4dTqeCi4sqk8NAQQ
Anyways here is some "skinwalker" screams for the lack of a better word
Holy pterodactyls, that's impressive!
Thanks m8
Trying to do lower growls. Can anyone tell me what kind of FC growl is being used by this mincecore band? I wanna try to imitate them. https://open.spotify.com/artist/2JWxRGdcsFqn5j9gYKjNF0?si=KCFuUW4dTqeCi4sqk8NAQQ
I got angry today!
Work on that stuff after you get down a basic growl
When you get down the basics everything else will come much easier
Bro I think it was clipping the mic lol
Unfortunately, Mr. Blurryface was banned.
what he say?
The n-word
Huh
I don’t really know how loud my screams are now
“Fry’s are quiet” I beg to differ
@stoic basin This video is good for highs and tunnels

sounds fucking dope
Also Worm Shepherd is just awesome in general
Devin is one of the best vocalists in the game rn
Thank you so much
it's really simple stuff when you finally get it down but it take a bit to understand it
So I found out my coworker is the drummer and back up singer for a blackened death band called A Hill to Die Upon. If you like stuff like Behemoth you'll like them
I got angry
I dont understand how u can keep ur throat compressed but also relaxed enough to keep that going and not getting choked up, nice job!
I agree with your statement. Fries are indeed not quiet
A lot of practice
That low is not fry. I garentee it
The high was but the low was absolutely a variation of FC or arytenoid distortion
The one that was higher was a fry
Yes I could tell that one but that low definately wasn't
Still the point remains lol. Fries aren’t very quiet lol
I know
You shouldn't fry scream loud... That's how you damage your vocal folds
No
Fry screaming is loud normally
if your fry scream is quiet you aren't doing fry right
You are probably doing fake fry

You shouldn't be yelling with it... From a classical perspective you can be much louder with choral vocals then you should with fry
Educate yourself
I'm not saying whisper
From my classical views on vocals fry isn't very loud though I get the point
He's an actual vocal cotch and a proffesional vocalist who has been at it for almost 20 years
Also thanks for the terminology! I have no idea of what terminology I had. I just know it sounds good and doesn’t hurt at all. Not even a strain lol
You can fry quietly if you want to as well you should be able to control it
Vocal fry is not a fry scream
I'm aware
low
Ya low
he does say in the video it can be damaging if you pover project it. also his demonstrations of what a fry scream IS are quiet
Yes
I was joking, because when you’re high, you smoke weed, and when you smoke weed, you’re fried
He says if you over project you hurt yourself but fry screaming isn't quiet watch the video
Although you can find fry at any pitch by relaxing the vocal folds enough that they fall out of sync

WATCH THE VIDEO
brutha i am watching the video
Compared to FC it's quite Compared to fortississimo in a choral setting it is quite. You don't want a lot of projection and volume due to the closer in the focal folds you don't want a lot of air passing through them being so closed.
You aren't whispering but it's generally the quietist vocal technique due to how it is achieved
I'm good, I have a vocal teacher who's been doing this for 30 years as well as know many people in the industry, from what I know you watch YouTube.
I'll take my chances of understanding this subject.
Ok man but sometimes it's good to hear other people takes on things and understand that maybe the thing you know isn't the full truth
Take your own advice on that
if you have an source send it to me and I'll see what your guys has to say, but till then I'll keep beliveving Justin
And I want to know who your coach and what projects he's been in. How many tours he's been on and how long they are. I wan to see what his other students sound like after taking lessons from him
I want more than just your word
The artists ironically know better than the teacher. What are the teachers qualifications? Justin is crazy and it shows. His vocals are good
Lemme hear ur teachers screams
I wouldn't say artist know more. I would say a coach who is an artist knows more
I know that some vocalists have no clue what they are doing and can't explain it to people, but sound awesome and are doing right. It take more than just sounding good to be a teacher
But if Conic's guy has 30 years of experience he should have recordings of him and should have a music career I can look up to see how good he is.
If I'm going to take Conic's word then I have no proof
Exactly what I’m saying
He's a professional choral singer now, he learned vocals a long time ago from his vocalist and still continues to learn and practice most credibility through melissa cross, which I use her stuff as well.
He's continued studying the techniques and anatomy of the voice.
He offers lessons via the local music center he offers voice lessons and piano...
I don't have any though probably can achieve some, only things that are public are things he has to post for hiring years ago.
Then I don't trust it
You don't have to doesn't really matter
At least the guys who I referenced has things you can look up
From a structural anatomy point fry screams are the quietest
They choose to do lessons and tips for free my teacher doesn't just how it works.
@storm yew this is loud.
Yes but he also posts things for people to reference and use
I never said that they aren't loud I even stated I can be loud with them and be safe 😂
I stated they are the softest most commonly used vocal technique
I would not say they are the most common. I'm pretty sure that FC is more common but you may be right on that point
For learning, FC is the most common dependent on the genre fry is generally what is used most all the local bands here do fry the most and out of majority of the bands I've seen live it is fry although plenty of other genres will use FC the most
Yeah it really depends on genre. I don't hear too many metalcore bands doing a lot of FC growls.
I guess since I listen to a lot of deathcore/death metal/black metal I'm pretty used to hearing FC in the majority of it
Everyone does either fry or other types of fry screams
eeeeeeh
Tom Barber does false cord in Chelsea grin and arytenoid stuff in darko
It was amazing I love the cleans
Might cover it soon
Such a good switch up and it worked perfectly
I like there music vidoes not too much the music got well I do but it's when I'm in a specific mood
Understandable. There are a lot of bands I only listen to in a certain mood
New Darko song is amazing
Everything they've put out for this album makes me hyped for what they have in store
I've always preferred more technically complex music, prog and what not less "heavy" that's a subjective word, I'm not super big into breakdowns I'll enjoy them just not my main thing.
Understandable
I gotta take my bed apart and my desks and take everything out of my room and put it back together
Why?
lol
What I will say on this topic, I think my brain enjoys progressive playing, speed, and experimentation, but it also enjoys brutality on occasion. It's how I'm able to enjoy something like "Behold" by Born of Osiris, but also something like "Alienation" by Larcenia Roe.
I think the downfall with listening to all of the cool experimental stuff is that I tend to skip or gloss over the stuff that may not be as technical, brutal, progressive, or as complex.
It's why I'm more likely to listen to Born of Osiris or Archspire than I am to, say, an Architects album.
Born of Osiris sucked live literally left the show
Was really excited like their stuff same with my dad we said fuck it not worth staying merch was more interesting
Oof
Did you know, right before Jason Richardson joined the band, Born of Osiris had Tosin Abasi as a touring guitarist for a brief period of time?
LARCENIA ROE IS AWESOME
Ya, although he doesn't play for them anymore which sucked wanted to see him lol
All three are awesome
I'm learning a full archspire album currently
Both guitar parts then plan on the bass part when I get my bass
Nice
I'm doing it for fun don't plan on recording it or anything just good practice, I'm also figuring out all the details and intervals of the parts I like so I understand how the song is built so I can apply it
Yeah makes sense
It was funny I was doing vocals at a family gathering and some of the kids were trying to make fun by trying to do it so later that day at the table talking about how they are done and I said if you do them wrong you could maybe never speak again, both the kids started crying thinking they fucked up bad
(I'm a great human)
Yes especially the brat kind
So @storm yew do you like much bm inspired stuff?
If so I'd suggest checking out Worm Shepherd. It's technical, but also pretty ignorant
https://youtu.be/j2_ad6yELWY?si=elp37ViHLTXMSUpP
Not sure what this is but the bass player is great always enjoy his stuff.
Vocals are definitely something

Ok
I mean niethful is nice and mire lore
Mire Lore is pretty good yeah. The new song was put on premier for a week from now I think
Actually the new song comes out Sunday
Cool
Listen to this
That's a bit too much for me
Very fair
Bass play-through video featuring Gotoh Kei of Impending Annihilation performing on an eleven string bass. The intro is taken from the new track 'Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis' (or ADEM), which should be available this Summer.

Here is the bass
Why do you need that?
Project I'm working on, more range just more options you can do, I have a 9 string guitar as well...
No breakdown planned
Still
I just want you to record like a three second thing of tremolo picking the low sting
It will be low, it's archspire with Animals as leaders for the rhythm type stuff and a bit of lead from archspire then really bright fun prog leads...
I'll send a recording of that in #1095986343848448020
ok
I'll play with a real amp as well just for a dumber sound maybe two distortion pedals in max?
is this too much?
what's even is this 💀 💀 💀 💀
You are doing fucking great
lmao
Sounds good man
I am so loud. You can hear my room echo 😂😂😂😂
BTW @stoic basin what do you think of mine
It’s so cool ngl
Reminds me of my old Fc
@north kettle forget what i said before, taking the pop filter off was one of the best decisions i've made
no idea why i did this, just felt bored ig
@patent lintel what do you think?
Sounds pretty good.
You still need to work on highs tho
Mids and lows sound very solid
I don’t do highs because I can’t get them good/high enough to my liking
that scared me so badly 😂 😂 😂
Good reason to practice them if you want them in your arsenal if not then you don't need to
it's a 50/50 gamble if they work/sound good nowadays
You have to start with high mids and work your way up. It will take time to make a high mid into an actual high
And that sounds fucking insane
New Mire Lore just dropped if anyone cares. Dan's vocals sound amazing on this one.
With fry you can also go into falsetto with fc you can't do it without hurting yourself
^
I think I am doing hybrid
Possible
Anyways I am really loud
Idk how to. I just sang a really loud note and added my distortion to it
Over projecting is being too loud and pushing too much.
A lot of times it won't hurt but if you did it live your voice would get worn out
My suggestion for doing different things with your vocals is to do a bunch of stupid voiecs and then pute your screams through that placement. If it sounds interesting play around with it.
Just a thought for everyone
I'd say work on the cleans, although I never have enjoyed those types of cleans so don't really take that advice.
Doesn't sound to bad keep practicing and practicing each time you've been getting better
I don’t normally do gritty cleans or cleans in general because my cleans are awful
As a choir singer cleans are a bit part of me and for metal they are underestimated in my opinion but ya no I understand
If a part of your voice sounds bad then do it more and make it sound better.
Only reason my cleans sound good is because I've been singing for the past eight years
Like I can’t improve it because I need to have guidance from a coach because my clean technique is bad ngl
Well finding a singing vocal coach is much easier than a screaming coach
I might get lessons with Justin.
Hell yeah man
Idk if this is any good
I swear my voice wasn’t dying here, my microphone just stopped picking me up. This was my attempt at the 24 second scream. Imma keep trying at it tho
(Shure sm7b was just a prop, was not the actual mic used)
I unlocked 2022 Eda vocals 😁😁😁😁
Unlocked a new high scream yesterday!
sounds good
bro hit in my feels
Haha thank you!
I’m so annoyed rn, I think I shot my voice from false chord screaming
It could be that or it could be cuz I’m sick, but I just have allergies
Can you cleany pronounce vowels and consonants chested or do they become airy
Half and half
Talking is a bit of a challenge, but when it comes to notes, barely an A
My choir teacher told me it could be acid reflux but I’m not entirely positive that’s what it is
But I have to reach really low a couple octaves just to make it sound decent
You could have damaged your voice I mean I just know the signs and what it feels like compared to being sick but can't say over text.
It might just be from a sickness, I’ve been waking up with a sore throat that you get from like snoring and all that, and it just got progressively worse. I was talking pretty fine yesterday and was able to sing well, and then it just got more hoarse throughout the day
Stay hydrated
Already had 2 bottles this morning and I’m going for my 3rd
Idk my yells have this crunchy and wet texture to it!
My poor rendition of the classic To The Hellfire breakdown
im in need of an clean vocalist if someone is interested DM me
does screaming work with lofi? not really, but better than expected. was it worth a try? i dunno.
PLS start making Scream Lofi an actual genre. I will be your #1 fan forever.
Look up the new Will Ramos track
IDK whether that was meant to be a diss or not LMAO?
Not at all
I'm just saying if you want more music that's kinda lofi screaming his new track is like that
Thanks dude
That's more EDM than Lofi. But yeah, he did an incredible job on it.
Can anyone here explain to me how Goregrind vocals are done. Ik that they use a pitch shifter, but I wonder how they get that really wet sounding gurgle.
@patent lintel my old fry lows sound so bad. my new highs sound better tho
when i do my lows from my yells they sound better
With the old lows have you tried doing a tunnel with it?
yeah.
i did gutturals and pig squeals as well
I mean it sounds good. That's probably the one you would use to just who how long you can hold a guttural for. If it's not as loud it uses less air.
Dope
Trying to do a scream similar to Sean from Make Them Suffer here
Take 2
With less of an emphasis on false chord (I think?)
#metal #vocalcover #deathcoremusic #slaughtertoprevail #alexterrible #viking
i'm trying to improve myself, if someone can give some feedback i would really appreciate that
i think its because they are inhale screams
They both sound good. Nice job on relaxing that FC and giving it more of a true cord sound. Sounds pissed keepe it up
Sounds cool man
@patent lintel @gloomy birch what do you think?
Pretty close to Oli
i don't know Era tho
Likely between Suicide Season and Sempiternal
nice i love that era!
thanks mate
kinda shitty, prolly cus i did it all in one take i was lazy
Rate/Roast my gutturals. I'm the lead Vocalist for the band Degloved Face.
Some poor lows
Felt like giving this a try
My low sounds cool
Sounds good
i tried screaming without warming up, i'm still laughing at this 💀
Sounds fucking sick
noice
Nope 👎
You're on the right track with the head voice. However, you're way off with the amount of closure needed to actually do a good sounding fry scream. Add more closure, and start with chest voice distortion. When you can add enough closure to get fry distortion from the chest, then transfer to your head voice. Good luck! And thanks for the hilarious fry attempt, I enjoyed listening to it!😆
Oh BTW my fry scream SUCKS, I'm just reiterating shit that I've heard on the Internet 😎🤣
Nice, thanks for the information, glad i made you laugh !
i'll ask some question again when i'll be able to scream (right now parents are home)
Good place to start for finding fry is where the voice cracks that's one of the more natural fry positions the vocal folds need closer and to be relaxed
Some lows
How do you guys personally come up with lyrics for sung choruses? I have a really sick idea for my pre breakdown, and breakdown, but I’m stuck on singing stuff
What’s your writing advice for singing stuff?
Find a topic and an emotion and work on finding words and phrases that emphasize on those ideas.
also, with EQ, how many tracks should i bring onto my vocals? like do i eq different screams differently? for this song i wanna go super high and super low
Personal preference
My texts are depressing af if I try to write anything💀 I have alot of lyrics in my head but im not able to share them
noice
All the ones I do are FC so yeah
My technique is so worn down at moment. I think I pushed over my limit. I practiced for 11 days straight with no rest days in between
Bruh, dude you need to take days off and you don't need to practice for more than 30 min a day at max
Yeah no wonder why my screams started to hurt a few minutes into my sessions because of overuse
I screamed over the whole breakdown of tears don’t fall a few months back. I actually lost the file for a bit, but I found it again
also it's healthier to practice for a few minutes throughout the day rather than doing it all in one chunk
I would disagree with that 30 minute thing. If you’re screaming safely, you shouldn’t be hurting yourself after 30 minutes of screaming. Sure you may be tired after it, because screaming is a workout afterall, but how do you think concerts are done? These guys are screaming for hours at a time and not feeling it
I will say though, drink water. That’s something a lot of people get wrong. Look at these metal vocalists and look at the copious amounts of water they drink
Don’t scream for more than 30 minutes without water
Definitely take rest days though. Burnout is a bitch
My brother in Christ. I get my info from the vocal courses I pay for so I don't blow my voice out.
Also your vocal cords aren't muscles. It's not a work out. You should never be pushing your vox to the point of strain
I mean they are muscle tissue, you can exercise them to help with strength and endurance.
Also with the water thing most people think water cleans the vocal folds or what not it's purely just for hydration the water doesn't touch your vocal folds I mean they sometimes do and you start chocking and coughing on it...
Though still most of that strength comes from the surrounding muscles as well.
I understand the tissue part however. It's not like lifting weights.
No absolutely not
Most metal vocalists are drinking so much water because they are running around and moving in a hot stage and breathing a lot which drys out the mouth and throat and just you are sweating so much they just need to stay hydrated.
im not talking about a workout in that way. im more talking about that diaphram. my diaphram is the thing that hurts after a bit of screaming
but how do you think metal vocalists do shows, if you cant scream for more than 30 minutes? that would make practice sessions, recording, and live shows nearly impossible
He said you don't need to practice for more then 30 minutes a day... recording and live shows aren't practice sessions.
with any sort of singing, or screaming, you will sound better with water. whether that be with running around, or singing a beautiful rendition of "hallelujah", drink water
That's just hydrated vs dehydrated
but im saying you can if you want lol
Yes he never said you can't practice for longer then 30 minutes either I don't think
maybe i misread haha
my bad
im kind of an idiot myself sometimes
but you dont have to call it at 30 minutes, thats what im saying. if you feel like more than 30 minutes, do it
Yes and no, depends on what you are practicing for, different routines for different things.
But ya definitely can do more then half an hour
id also say its good to build up endurance, because it does feel like a workout sometimes
Doing shorter intervals more often can be better for building endurance
You can but you shouldn't practice for longer. There is a reason most people blow their voice out when they on tour rather than any time else. You can practice for longer hell you can do vocals for over 12 hours if you do everything perfect, but you shouldn't. You should practice for 30 l. That's all you need to improve
I love this vocal style so much
Do my vox actually sound like that?
That's the single your dinky phone speaker is sending
Signal
Still sounds a lot better than I expected it to
Very fair, you also have the phone off to the side and not in front of you
That is because it would be awekward to hold the phone directly infront of my face and I prefer to do vocals when facing forward
Lots goes into it lol, you are in a car not using an amazing microphone probably not warmed up... We having definitely different styles of yells but that's the thing about screaming it's still so personal
I was actually warmed up there. I just didn't expect my highs to sound that good after recovering from a quick cold.
Honestly being sick and doing vocals can give you some fun sounds haha. Good to hear you are recovering though, never fun.
I think my lows are improving, not sure tho
i kinda suck and i have for years but im getting back into vocals a bit and i have some questions
the quiet one was easy the one that had actual voice in it was harder
it had more tension and slipped more into possibly bad for throat territory
but i also dont know if thats cuz i had bad technique or cuz i was making the fry noise (NOT THE GRUDGE NOISE) under my breath for 5 hours at work beforehand and my voice was tired
also shit audio quality but its just my phone
idk if this is impressive or not but go me
raw audio in audacity + default compressor settings
yo guys, i really need some mixing ears here! i lost all my settings, and i needed to re-mix everything and had to work on the presets again. i hope this sounds good enough to upload, i would appreciate some tips, or more help as well
plauge be upon ye
This is “blood sport” by sleep token. I harmonized with most of it, and did the screams in the choruses. Honestly hyped with how this turned out, especially given it was a one take thing
damn this is beautiful🥹💙
Something's in the way
thank you so much! that means a lot to me ♥️♥️♥️
I'm debating buying a vinyl or a band shirt they are the same price. What do y'all think?
Idk tbh
The shirt looks pretty cool to be fair
Depends. Which are you going to use more?
does this sounds legit ?
Actually sounds super sick man! I fuck with it a lot
Thank you plankton, have a good fuck !
This is really good, well done damn u caught up really quick!!
Thank you ! It's been 3-2 years for now, since i wanted to scream and become a frontman, i was doing this sound for awhile, but it wasn't sounding really good and it was hurting. Now it feels good, (still don't know if it's a fry scream or not but it sounds hella sick and it's not hurting my voice)
@patent lintel what do you think?
Some unwarmed up vocals.
Nice u are doing good!
Sounds cool
Your Girl got better at some stuff!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxrmVNC-FKk Sup guys, this is my new song. i would need some feedback on the Mixdown & Quality. Would appreciate it alot!! <3

#metal #spiritbox #hardcore #pos...
if anyone can sing like that hmu
I love this kazoo sample, what did you use to make it?
Some new stuff
hey everyone. its not a cover of a song but im trying to work out how i should go about doing vocals a for a song. im a complete noob for this and the closest i get to doing anything like this is twitch streaming through obs
If you can get a vocal teacher
nothing its from youtube lol
I think I found my own sound
Well I have finally unlocked fry screams
After like four months of trying I got them
Nuce
Some fun stuff
Also you are right they are quieter than my FC
but I think that's cause I'm not doing it the right way yet still need to work on it
Just figured it out today really
With the closer of fry you just don't want to pass as much air, you can definitely work up to getting louder though 100%
Closure*
I'll keep working on it
Have fun
didn't even warm up before this, low key proud of myself
my shitty goofy ahh vocals
Tips for mid range and lower range growls?
Mid range example: Randy Blythe (LoG)
Low example: Kyle Anderson (BoS)
I’ve never done growls
get down a FC scream
sounds good keep workin on it
Any good videos that cover this?
Anything from Kardavox Academ
You can check out the videos on BoS that they have on that channel
@lyric dune That's how I got this
That and the Slaughter to Prevail videos
right we're back
How do ik if I'm using diaphragm or not
https://youtu.be/BlZf2wP9Gqo?si=RwoW7twY0MV4jQgq is this good at all?
(It’s my second acc)
(I just posted it because I spent time)
looking at vocals from a long time ago is so crazy
because like
BRUH
i SUCKED 2 years ago. now im at a place where i like my vocals, but HOLY FUCK im dying at how horrific these were
holy shit thats amazing!

Halo inspired song incase y’all didn’t know
Lmao key reason I love soi
My personal favorite i even did a small bit of here
It's from ruin we rise its so good
My attempt at piece the veil and to kinda show I sound a lil bit like Vic
I can’t belt😔
sounds good but you need to work on that belting. Once you get belting down it's so fun
Got like some basics to learning belting
I got the main ideas down
Just gotta practice as much as I can
Am I false chording?
does my fry scream sound healthy? i just learned it a few days ago and idk if I'm doing it correctly
fire
My highs are crazy right now
not really goood 😦
yeah.
Yea sounds pretty good to me actually
Some lows and some snarls.
architects and fry scream
Not that bad man, need to work on your singing a little tho
@stoic basin needs to get in a nu core band
Yeah I haven’t done Sass singing since 2023
damn thats so good!!
thank you
Thanks !
What the fuck…

The fuck?
what the heeeeeeel
bro went : 👹 👹 👹 👹 👹 🐭 🐹 🐭 🐹 👹 👹 👹🐑
Just showing my new low and high!
My vore cover sucks😭
First off I didn’t run any effects so it’s just raw
Second I accidentally kept trying to impersonate vessels voice
That’s actually it
The screaming pretty good
https://youtu.be/7Ejridpon-U?si=GpiotXt8kOZUvoPj featuring guitar from @meager pier
No bass cuz couldn’t find a track for it, will be updated with it soon.
(I made this)
This is good
I love it
I can try and do the screaming cause idk if you know if you know how to at all
Unless you have family with you
Couldn't find the instrumental with the actual quoting so I did it myself
No it was recorded late at night, so I’m half asleep so I can’t rlly scream.
Oh
Well I mean
I guess my neighbors love me then😭
I feel like this is one of my better snarls.
Sounds good man
Oh btw if anyone wants in depth advice on vocal health I'm currently learning the McClosky method u can get the book online
It's mainly for clean singing, but the warm ups are solid
My highs are wacky 🤕🤕🤕
Bruh ignore the white thing on my lip that’s a part from my mazapan😅
Just showing my highs and lows
This considered decent
i found this from a while ago. but it got me thinking, what if i combined deathcore with extratone
If anyone want to hear the best deathcore highs ever go back and listen to the first three Suicide Silence albums. https://open.spotify.com/track/36w5Ai2rVganBlTiflogxT?si=c7fce964b97948d6 Wake up is one of my favorite songs from that era
Eddie's vocals on the new albums are also fucking awesome. Capable of Violence is incredible. He was the only one who could live up to the legacy Mitch had started. And anyone who says he's shit in SS can suck it the fuck up
Their Alr but I wouldn’t say they can live up to Mitch but hey that’s me I haven’t listened to the new stuff a lot
Maybe their actually the best thing I’ll hear
Their last album Remember.... You Must Die is top three from them for me.
Thinking In Tongues makes it into my top ten songs from them with out a doubt
Oh that’s not good
I need to stick to guitar
That’s not good for vocals
You just need practice
😭
I probably just need to do it not laying on my side
And it’ll sound better or not hurt
I’m actually trying to sound like I’m throwing up a hairball with no bass
Having a deeper voice sucks cause high chords are hard
That sounds pretty nasty
Does it hurt?
It sounds like I’m actually throwing up
No
Perfect
Welcome to the vocals hall of fame
I didn’t know sounding like a dying animal was a talent but here I am ig
Yup
I’m scared one day I’ll voice crack in the middle of a scream
Like a vocal pitch harmonic 💀
my new highs are crazy
you can hear it more here
i just did it one day and i evolved it
It’s sad that 4 years of singing and like 4 weeks ago I actually found my real singing voice
Do not impersonate someone
Unless you naturally sound like them do not even try
Oh yea that too
@patent lintel what do you think of my new highs?
I think I should get more into vocals considering I already knew how to make almost impossible sounds with my voice because of how weird I was in elementary
Okay your screams pretty decent
I like them
believe it or not i am only 3 months into doing this technique
i picked up fry naturally and its better than my falsecord
Yea same
i do aryepi fry which is pretty cool in comparison to the other types of fry i tried doing in the span of the 4 years i been doing vocals
Tbh I haven’t branched out to other fry types besides this mix between clean and distorted
false fold fry aka hybrids sound cool
i haven't learn that yet
Damn😭
Your screams are so much better
But to be frank I usually stick to my chest range v
same
all my technique is chest
i may belt a bit to do yelled stuff
@meager pier
That’s pretty good
This is like the only real video I have of my like upper chest voice screams
Well rn at least
I’m to lazy to scroll to find the actual like heavy screams I did
Actually might as well
The best example of my highs and lows
I’d say it’s pretty good for what they are
Uploading my favorite cover I've ever done
It's gonna be good, I hope
Probably my favorite song at the moment (and it's not even close). So beautiful.
I cannot explain to you why I love this song so much, it's just SO GOOD
@meager pier
I like these too
@stoic basin how you feel about this?
sounds good
Thanks
I just wanted to make sure before I burn my friends ears off when I sing it at karaoke night
cool
if i ever do karaoke night i am probably gonna sound bad
the hair is giving fluffy Oli hair haha
Oh you see that😭😅
Haha ofc first thing I noticed, nice!😂
Hahaha glad I made u happy
@stoic basin that clip sounded pretty good man
thats so sickk
Thank you so much!
It took me awhile to develop them
My vocals are shot due to practicing and not warming up.
It’s hard to do the whole line plus the 17 second scream
Your highs kinda sound like Bert McCracken
Like idk they give me that vibe
Are you doing fry’s?
It sounds to have a bit of false cord action tbh
I mean I’m too used to my high pitched screams😭
So like normal like baritone singer screams confuse me
yeah its pure fry. that's all i can do at the moment
Oh shit they sound pretty moist
i do aryepi fry
Oh that makes sense then
Dickie Allen and a friend of mine do that technique
Man best I can do for that sound is a false cord high
Fc highs are alright for highs from my experience
I’ve always done them when I wanted to do high fry screams
Their nice
They sound good and do the job as good as fry’s
i am playing around with my voiced fry stuff. its still wheezey because i lack the closure the make it sound good
once i add the closure it will sound like my lows like it doesn't sound airy
you have to do the compressed false chord scream like Nergal from Behemoth or Corey from slipknot to hit higher pitched false chord, lemme send a video.
this are my high false chord screams with the normal false chord i used for the lows on weed out the weak.
i know it probably sounds worse than a normal fry, but im still new to the compressed false chord, still, you can hear the difference in the pitch and the highness, that being said i can easily enough transition between false lows and fry highs, so that's what I'm doing
i saw the previous vid you sent . try to pronounce better, id like it much better personally.
tone is good.
This one’s for you
the last scream was sick!
at the very end it sounded like corey taylor and mikael from Opeth had a baby
haven't tried singing this song in like ever, so im not even gonna pretend that was good 😂
@meager pier @patent lintel
Good stuff man
Sorry I’ve been passed out in bed for like 3 hours extra
Sounds cool
singing is bad but you can tell my voiced fry is easy to go into and out of off
loud btw
If you singing is bad that is what you should practice the most. If you only practice the things you are good at you will naver make the stuff you have issues with better.
Practice as much with your singing as much as you do screaming
Sing your favorite songs
That helps
You get better at singing by learning techniques
But you learn a lot just from singing too
That’s just how I learned
My singing voice is awful to listen to believe it or not
Then practice to make it better. Look up some singing videos on youtube or something
It takes time to really find the real voice you like
Your singing voice may be found in a week or a month or years
It just takes time
You practice and it gets better
wut do u think?
I’m seeing a trend on this channel where people try and do the 17 second long scream on that song
Welp
I have to do it now
what about the 20 second i did on Weed out the weak?
Fuck I’ll try that too
Also do you have a video on that or?
Cause 20 seconds is impressive
I mean I guess you are doing tunnels
Which makes sense why you can hold them that long
IDK wtf im doing for a long high scream
Are you putting your tongue to the side of your cheek
That
Sounds really odd now that I see it
Oh damn
You aren’t doing that
here's a 30 + second scream
started getting hard ~25 second
now don't ask me about growls 😄 cant do for more than 10 seconds
Growls use a lot more air
Max I got was 16 ish
with fry low 16 seems possible, but i really don't like my fry tone so i just do false chords
Yea false cords just use a lot more air than fry
Fry is where your vocal cords are just kinda sputtering around
i suck
False cords are usually open
tone is really good
Trust me that’s pretty good
Oli i wanna hear you sing weed out the weak now. 😄 Dani Filth like fry scream on a Peter Tagtgren song oof.
goofy ahh
I’ll try in a bit it’s to early for me to just scream
Even tho all I scream at 8 all the time but I mean my neighbors need to love me again
@meager pier
Great take
i've been posting way too many memes recently. anyways, is my mixing better or still kinda screwed?
BMTH during cooking time
not trying to be mean or anything, but why it kinda sound like a japanese vocalist trying to scream in english?
that ain't bryan garris, thats brianu garisu
@supple jolt this was my attempt but i only do false chords
for like longest scream but in general
ill hear when im at home, working atm
holyshit
Haha
I could probably do longer but I'm not home right now
I think people would get bored if that was in a song 💀
Maybe better for live
yes
I will take that as a compliment
love the vibe!🤘🏼
@meager pier @patent lintel
Idk what I heard it’s good but it sounds like pac man if he had lung cancer
If I'm being honest it's not that cool. If you add it to a scream it can sound cool but that alone is pretty silly
Not saying this to put you down
It’s a inhaled technique idk what it is tho. I did it randomly one day
Yeah when I was just messing around with random noises a couple years back I came across it. You can do it exhail and add it with a scream and it sound kinda cool... I guess. It was something I never really messed around with but I bet you could make it sound great.
I am pretty sure it’s inhale epi.
I’m trying to learn how to scream better. Anyone got any tips? (I’m trying to learn fry screams, but if you have tips for gutturals or false chords, that’s fine too 👍)
Watch Kardavox Adademy and Hungry Lights videos. EVI is pretty good too
Those channels are how I was able to get my vocals to where they are currently
He’s good
He's good but I haven't watched much from him
But he’s more focused on cleans
He knows more about cleans than the real harsh vocals
Kardavox is really good for intermediary and advanced stuff
True. But he does do a lot of videos for harsh vocals
Yeah got some good videos with Will Ramos
Yea but he specifically sticks with more cleans I wouldn’t mind watching those videos cause he goes pretty deep in explaining the basics
Cause he’s really good at explaining that stuff
cool
