okay so what if ure heavily inspired by a song and you write using that as inspiration and you later realize you literally basically one on one copied 2 sections from the song (well notes aint the exact same obviously, but sound is incredibly similar overall and by vibe) and put those sections basically in the same spot as well structurally lmfao. šŸ’€

Making a custom guitar. For my first attempt I said to try some cheaper wood, so, it's gonna be pine sadly, but besides that it will be a headless 6 string, white paint with black accents

I have no idea if its ideal for the type of music I want to make (hard/alt rock, punk rock, nu-metal), but I don't care - this thing is getting played. I can't remember the type of strings that are on this thing, but they're supposedly able to last a lifetime if I clean them.

plain vine
#

I don’t know about lasting a lifetime, but i know bass strings last alot longer than guitar strings if looked after.

coarse tulip
#

Yeah, that's fair. I gotta check what strings they are, though, they're supposedly really high-quality strings that I wouldn't be able to afford.

I just put some Fishman fluence active pickups in my guitar and noticed that they're really fucking loud and almost make my clean tone sound distorted with how loud of an output they're giving. Is this normal?

Welcome to the world of active pickups

I now understand why people in-the-know have the reaction to the bass I got. It's worth over $2000 (at least), almost 50 years old, still near-mint (aside from some metal rust and slowed tuners), and I got it for basically free. Absolute score. Hello!
I have a 26.5 scale 7 string guitar, I play in drop G# and A and use 10-64 gauges.

My question is which one would be more worth it?

From one store I could get a package of 4x Darco 10-46 pack + 4x spare Rotosound 64 as 4th string with 12-13EUR shipping = 43 EUR incl shipping.

From the other I could simply order 4x La Bella HRS-72 El. Guitar RWNP 10-64 set for 39.6 EUR + 20 EUR shipping = ~60 EUR (could split the shipping with my brother from that specific store because he would maybe also grab a cable for himself from there as well).

Would ths cheaper version be more worth it or not, regarding both the brands, how long the strings last and how good quality they are, I've personally never tried La Bella strings before so I don't really know much about them, but the reviews were great at least.

I need some advice here, folks; I'm thinking of getting a guitar dedicated to Drop C-Bb tunings somewhere down the line, I'm considering an Epiphone Les Paul for that. I tried out some Ibanez and Schecter guitars, but they just weren't clicking for me... is having an Ep Les with slightly thicker strings the play? I don't want to get a Baritone 6 string - I tried it, but it doesn't quite fit the bill of what I'm trying to go for.

rancid yew
coarse tulip
#

Oh, I mean the lowest I'm gonna likely go is drop A#. The type of music I'm likely gonna play with it is SOAD, Bring me the Horizon, etc, so I don't mind it sounding as heavy. If anything, there's a sweet spot I'm trying to go for.

Would you recommend the Hondo Les Paul? Lots of what I'm seeing with those types of guitars is that they tend to be hit or miss.

If you're not into the house shaking kind, go for a lunchbox head. I've already seen people suggest the 5150 ones. The 5153 LBX's are nice though between all of em they sort of are different, but the LBX Stealth is generally considered the best one with the II taking 2nd place.

Alternatively if your more into the classic 5150 sound, there's the Peavey 6505MH. They're a little less expensive than the LBX's and you can get a used one for cheap. If you're more into a 5150 sound with TONS of bells and whistles, go with the Peavey Invective MH, the Misha Mansoor amp. This thing is REALLY good, like they took the big boy amp and shrank it without the downsides good. It's got some cool stuff on the back too. You get more with it, but heavily suggest you buy it used.

If you don't really want a tight 5150 type sound, Orange makes great lunchbox heads and the Tiny Terror you can get one used for sub 500. It's only 3 knobs but it sounds amazing if you pair it with the right cab. They're not super tight or anything but they can be and they fuck. The Dark Terror is another one, but it's super scooped and can get quite bassy, but throw a TS in front and you can get a great Progressive Rock type sound. If you need multiple channels there's the Dual Terror however the Dual Terror can be quite pricey new so high recommend buying used. There's others Orange have made like the Rocker 15 and OR15 but I haven't played em so I can't give you an opinion.

Alternatively if you forgo tubes and go with the solid state Super Crush 100 for 500 bucks, man that shit fucking slaaaaaays. It has the power of Orange's flagship Rockerverb 120 in a slightly smaller and lighter package and great for home use. But that's my opinion.

# odd coyote And suggestions on tube amps I can get. Ideally not house shaking ones

Marshall's DSL20H head also is good choice too if you're into the Marshall sound, if not well then check the options above. There's also the Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister series which are pretty neat, the Deluxe 20 is the best one and you can get em used for 500 and up which ain't too bad. It's got cool on board effects and glows fuggin BLUE. Plus it has cool fancy stuff on the back, but again tone is subjective.

By far though the best option in my opinion is the PRS MT15. This thing absolutely FUCKS. It's Mark Tremonti's signature amp and he designed it specifically for new players or bedroom players in mind. But it can get crazy fuckin loud, enough to do local shows with! Think a Rectifier and a Bogner had a baby. There nothing fancy about it, just a straight up 2 channel lunchbox metal machine with a great clean channel too! And they glow different colors based on which channel you're on! You can get them new for 700ish but used for even less! It's by far my favorite one on this list (although I'm also slightly biased cuz I love Mark Tremonti) so now it's up to you.

Because if that stops the noise, there could be a grounding issue somewhere.

#

Also if you were testing the noise without the cable plugged in there will just be noise

granite rapids
#

Touching the bridge doesn't stop the noise

#

Also when I let go of the strings, the amp makes a loud whine

plain vine
#

Hmmm, I don’t know the issue but it doesn’t sound like a cable problem

#

You could try getting another cheap cable and seeing if it’s different (plus, an spare cable can be useful to have) but if it’s still a problem, then it’s something else.

Hopefully someone here smarter than me can figure it out.

# odd coyote Also for that start part I’m p sure it’s a dissonant chord not sliding but I mig...

The tabs on songsterr (at the moment because they keep getting taken down) show disonant chords being played but some other tabs on youtube videos show a slide on the 5th fret of the b string up to the 6th fret and then bends on that 5th fret while always hitting the e string... I don't know which is more correct but I just slid the 5th fret to 6th fret everytime which doesn't sound as good but makes it easier to play (So yeah, technically incorrect either way but it's not played to well by me at the moment, so I'm gonna let that slide untill the rest is better).

I found a way to run 5 cabs at once without damaging anything. It would be 6 but my 4 ohm 1x15 has a fucky jack I have to replace. Essentially I took my 8 ohm 4x12 and linked it to my 8 ohm 4x10, then I took my 4 ohm 2x12 and linked it with the two other cabs via a Mesa Boogie Series Box, making the total load 8, then I ran my Sunn SA10 in stereo mode, linking those 3 cabs into one speaker output, and a 4 ohm 2x12 in the other, 2.67 total ohm load. Then I took the other power amp and sent it to my 4 ohm 2x15. Both sides of the power amp can handle 2 ohm loads a piece at 150 watts. So essentially I ran 5 cabs. I took my Peavey Decade and ran the preamp out into an ABY box and sent it into both of the power amp inputs. Very complicated rig but it sounds fucking huge. The first video was just the four cabs, the 2nd was with the added 2x15!

thats the best 5150 amp in the 100w versions

wise shadow
#

evh 5150 iii red channel

#

its better than others but still lacks something

balmy vortex
#

kemper profiles always miss lowend response and proper eq/gain control

#

let alone decent low guitar volume control and sound

#

cant say amps miss stuff if you havent tried the real amp tbh

wise shadow
#

other amps sound pretty good though

balmy vortex
#

kemper still isnt really a good platform to decide an amp actually sounds good from my experience

wise shadow
#

they have good low end for most of the time

balmy vortex
#

dependent on the kemper profile yes

#

i've tried so many profilers and amp modellers and they kemper is probably my least favourite one

wise shadow
#

they sound pretty close to what my modeler creates and in this video it still sounds like its lacking something

balmy vortex
#

then try to explain what you mean lacking

wise shadow
#

i guess low end or boxiness

balmy vortex
#

low end gets mixed out anyway cuz thats the space for the bass guitar

wise shadow
#

tbh i heard 5150 are mix ready alot

balmy vortex
#

almost

#

they still get a high pass and low pass

#

and some general eq/compression for getting their right mix position

#

if you want it more V-shaped then go check out engl amplifiers instead

#

the 5150 isnt always the end all be all amplifier

#

there are also driftwoods, soldano, friedman, bogner, zuta and many more amps that sound great

#

but you should find a place where you can actually try the real amps other than through a sound demo on youtube

#

the youtube demo can only do so much and isnt an accurate sound for the in room sound

wise shadow
#

i loved engl friedman and mesa dual rectifier

balmy vortex
#

i work with a few amps at work and boi the 5150 is definitely not always the best answer

wise shadow
#

tbh soldano and 5150 amps sound very close

balmy vortex
#

thats cuz the 5150 is based of of the soldano slo100

wise shadow
#

i heard 5150 was made based off soldano

balmy vortex
#

it was

#

to be made cheaper with more gain

#

cuz the soldano was about 4000-5000usd at the time

#

and it still is

balmy vortex

Ok, I might have a small problem and I need an advice.
My Digitech Drop pedal stopped working. But not in a classic way. When I plug it in, the signal goes in, but the function of a drop isn't working. Normally, there is a red light glowing on an tone option, but now when I plug it, it jumps over 4th and 7th option and it won't stay in place

#

I have a bad feeling that there might be something bad with software

I'm not really a Mesa gal. Every one I've tried hasn't met up to my expectations. This Badlander was my favorite Mesa I've tried but still was lacking. My second favorite was a Dual Rectifier Tremoverb combo, 3rd was an actual old Dual Rec I played in studio with a 4x12 (sounded awful by itself, was only really passable after I threw a Plumes and Black Russian Big Muff in front of it), and by far the worst amp I've ever tried... a Fillmore combo. Yuck. Sounded like it had a wet blanket over it no matter what I did. Couldn't handle gain well either

#

All of them had flabby low end. I guess the Badlander was the best in that sense but still definitely needed a boost to be passable with an 8 string

#

I know it's not the cab. Every Mesa has been like this in my experience and I played a Peavey Ultra Plus 120 through the same cab and it fucking ripped

I will tell you this as a massive Mesa fan.

Mesa's are not for everyone, especially for Rectifiers.

Each Mesa is its own unique sort beast. As a Rectifier nut, Rectifiers are very hit or miss because there are a lot of them out there. I could get into the weeds but the general gold standard Dual Rectos people look for are the Rev E and Rev F. They have that Recto sound like Rev G but they are slightly more mids and a bit tighter (with the tightest being the Rev C). The original Multi-Watt models which absolutely are abhorrently bad and I would not advise anyone play those. But the more modern ones I hear are pretty good (haven't tried one). Personally, while I like the Tremoverb a LOT, the solo heads were the way to go.

As for the Badlander, the Badlander is very specific. It's based on the Rev G model with only the option of the silicon diodes for rectification. As it made them sound more aggressive. The Badlander sounds exactly like a Rev G solo head Recto set up like that which is why it's popular.

The reason Rectos had a flubby low end was because they were created with the Nu Metal sound in mind. Well later ones were. The original A, B, and C (the C being the first publicly available one) models were not made for that sound, they were made for the hair metal scene. With that scene dying out fast in the early 90s, they changed how the amp sounded at the last minute with the C model and went off from there.

# rancid yew I'm not really a Mesa gal. Every one I've tried hasn't met up to my expectations...

As for the Fillmore, the Fillmore was not created with high gain in mind. Think of it like a modified Fender Princeton (but not to the insane degree as the Mark series), it's a clean/crunch amp and should be used as such. High gain in the Fillmore is gonna be yucky.

Honestly it's up to taste though. Mesa are also NOTORIOUSLY difficult to dial in tones for, with the treble and prescence knob being the keys to dialing in Mesa, as all the knobs sort of react to where those settings are put.

Honestly I recommend finding a JP2C or a VII. Nothing wrong against the Mark V but the V is sort of a collection of all the previous ones models (I - IV) put together and it's very option paralysis kinda deal due to there being so many modes and stuff. You have to take the time to learn the amp and stuff. The JP2C and VII you'll have a slightly easier time with because they are their own beasts. But if you find a V, and no other models, I'd play around with it for while. The Mark is one of the few amps I can say it doesn't require a boost.

#

Also apologies I get really nerdy about Mesa amps ^^;

hello guitar people, I have a question about doing live sound stuff and I don't play guitar but it will me and my friends a lot

So we're looking to buy a mixer and do the guitar amps get mic'd and put into a XLR port or do the mics go from XLR to the guitar amp jack

or like do amps have an output spot that I can like connect to the mixer

I'm new to producing metal, and fairly new to metal full stop, and I do not own/play any instruments. I have been looking at guides on youtube, but it is really confusing. What things do I need to get started (of course, I know I need guitar, bass guitar and drums)? What free VSTs are good? I'm unsure if I will stick to producing metal, as I don't have a lot of free time, so I don't really want to be spending money on VSTs. All the terminology that people use is really confusing and IDK what things to look into to get started. Please help.

Dont know any guitar vsts; at least not any free ones. In general most go to and recommend Odin 3, though I myself have no experience with it.
With guitar tones it“s as simply explained as it is complicated to actually do. Long story short: Meshuggah“s guitars dont sound like Invent Animate“s and Invent Animate“s dont sound like Whitechapel“s and Whitechapel“s....you get it. A guitar just plays the notes, the way these notes actually sound are determined by the tones you get from playing it through an amp and getting pre-/post-processing on it for more depth, reverb, more punch or whatever else you want. Your common guitar vst will likely come with a few presets, but there“s only so much to do with it. It“ll be servicable but wont get you the results you“d get by properly amping the DI - however, you need an amp for that. There“s free ones, which again I cannot give testament to the quality.

That“s the ropes
