#

I was debating on getting one

balmy vortex
#

theyll need work

graceful socket
#

Could honestly use a change of pickups (at least for my personal taste), and the body is pretty heavy, but nothing I personally take too big an issue with

balmy vortex
#

usually a lot of work tbh

nimble jungle
balmy vortex
#

for an 8 you want a clearer lower output pickup ngl

graceful socket
#

I´m happy with mine for doing like some stupid caveman shit from time to time, if it were to be my main guitar then yes, it´d need a good amount of work

nimble jungle
balmy vortex
#

not for 8 you dont

#

itll get muddy way too quickly with high output pickups

nimble jungle
#

Who said I didn’t like Muddyness 👀

balmy vortex
#

you dont want muddiness on an 8 string sound cuz itll sound extremely sloppy extremely quickly

graceful socket
#

take it from someone playing high gain drop omegalul type stuff, yes, clarity is more important after some point.

nimble jungle
#

lol ikik

#

I don’t think I’ll ever need an 8 string though

#

I don’t really listen to music that justifies it

balmy vortex
nimble jungle
#

Maybe Sleep Token but even then I’ll just pitch shift

graceful socket
nimble jungle
#

I have a 7 string that I don’t really use that often but it’s fun

graceful socket
graceful socket
nimble jungle
#

I still prefer 6 string hehehe

balmy vortex
#

i've been learning quite a bit of archspire. stupid fun

#

i do have a new 6 string on the way

#

but i cant talk about it yet

graceful socket
#

I´m not even gonna try Archspire lmao

graceful socket
balmy vortex
#

mine is an ibanez jcustom

nimble jungle
#

Lowkey tryna trade my Schecter 7 string for the 6 string version

tardy glacier
#

aint down picked but yea

#

its alt picked and string skipped

graceful socket
#

ordered mine custom from a really, like really small company....then the dude who builds them got injured and couldnt do any work for a few months, now he´s behind beyond recovery so I´ll get it when I get it

tardy glacier
#

yea

#

yea thats what i was gonna do

#

but i wanted to

#

like see if anyone got any videos explaining maybe

#

pick positioning etc

#

as a lot of songs use that

nimble jungle
tardy glacier
#

and thats one of those things i suck at

tardy glacier
balmy vortex
#

Archspire

graceful socket
# tardy glacier pick positioning etc

Pick positioning has relatively little to do with playing a part like that, that´s more for tonality and clarity and up to song and taste. Get your wrist to the position you´ll normally palm mute at, try to find a position where you mute only the one but not the other string and then get a feel for it by playing octaves

tardy glacier
#

yea ive always just been very sloppy playing such riffs

nimble jungle
tardy glacier
#

so thought about finally actually improving and learning it

graceful socket
tardy glacier
graceful socket
nimble jungle
graceful socket
#

yeah, notied. Still stuck on the ibanez talk

#

lmao

nimble jungle
#

I was never an Ibanez gal

graceful socket
#

still relatable

balmy vortex
#

god i still have to think of the tuning i want my j custom to be in 🫠

balmy vortex
#

sure, lets go a step up then

graceful socket
#

I actually got my 25.5" 6 string in the HLB Drop E tuning - it´s a fucking abomination but I accidentally bought baritone strings and then just did it

balmy vortex
#

Dont do it again pls

#

Drop is tbh the lowest you should do on a damn 6 string

graceful socket
#

I keep it around as a shock value type stuff

#

also I´d need to buy new strings for a guitar I barely ever play

#

and now it´s already that deep

#

so fuck it

balmy vortex
#

i gotta fugging remember what i knew in drop a now

nimble jungle
balmy vortex
#

i do see a use for F standard, thank you meshuggah

nimble jungle
#

im not a big fan of absurdly low tunings kit_AAAA

balmy vortex
#

mood

graceful socket
#

I rest my case

balmy vortex
#

hald those guys are kinda overrated ngl

nimble jungle
graceful socket
#

I mean shit, my pfp is literally me playing the Snowblood riff OMEGALUL

balmy vortex
#

and im here doing melo death and tech death wheeze

nimble jungle
#

I dont really listen to a lot of modern bands much anymore aside form like Sleep Token, Polaris and Bad Omens

graceful socket
nimble jungle
#

my taste in core is like 2000- to like 2016

balmy vortex
#

i need to relearn demolisher

graceful socket
#

I need ro releasrn everything ngl, practice been slacking these last weeks

balmy vortex
#

mood

#

at least i can still play most of the trivium stuff i learned

#

but not my shogun songs bceCry3Tears

balmy vortex
#

stupid fun song to play

nimble jungle
balmy vortex
#

kirisute gomen is 7 string B standard sweetheart

nimble jungle
#

I know?

balmy vortex
#

then i have no idea what you mean by that comment

nimble jungle
#

I dont listen to much after Ascendency i should have clarified

balmy vortex
#

that makes more sense

nimble jungle
#

I also dont have a guitar thats tuned to B standard

#

i have my seven string tuned to Drop G#

balmy vortex
#

fuck i missed this 7 string of mine

nimble jungle
#

though i did learn UTWGC awhile back

#

How many people here still use tube amps?

balmy vortex
#

youd be quite surprised

#

slipknot still tours with tube amps for instance

#

i also sell a ton of tube amps

nimble jungle
#

Ik i mean people in this chat

balmy vortex
#

if i could i would

#

i have a tube amp on my mind to get but its expensive

nimble jungle
#

Even more specifically how many people here use a 5150, 6505 or 6505+

balmy vortex
#

i wouldnt even have that as my second or even third pick for tube amps

nimble jungle
#

hm

#

Why not?

balmy vortex
#

my first pick is a diezel vh4, then an omega granophyre and then and engl fireball 100 with KT77

balmy vortex
#

and very overused

nimble jungle
#

It seems to be a bit too dark for me

balmy vortex
#

could be your cab as well tbh

nimble jungle
#

maybe

balmy vortex
#

i know which cab im personally getting if i need one tbh

#

it would be a redseven 2x12

nimble jungle
#

I have some G12's

balmy vortex
#

but i also have access to too much gear that most people would dream of tbh

nimble jungle
#

I want too get a diffrent cab but then id have 3 cabs in my room

balmy vortex
#

get the bare speakers insted at that point tbh

#

a v30 and a green back for one of them at least

nimble jungle
#

They are a hassle to get in and out of my room

#

I dont want a V30

balmy vortex
#

this is why you pair it with a V30 and Greenback

#

those two have such a nice midrange

nimble jungle
#

I wanna be different lol

#

Too common

balmy vortex
#

v30+greenback is only in one of the shelf cab lol

nimble jungle
#

Ill find a cab that i vibe with one day

#

These are the speakers I have

#

To be more specific

rancid yew
rancid yew
nimble jungle
#

Lemmie see

nimble jungle
#

Through I have 2 cabs and I should get rid of one

rancid yew
#

They're very, very rare amps. I have a matching 4x12 and I'm looking for a matching slanted 4x12

nimble jungle
#

Shiiiii

#

I may need to hear it as well

rancid yew
rancid yew
nimble jungle
#

Damn

#

Maybe I will have to get V30s you’re the 2nd person to suggest them for what I want

rancid yew
#

I was playing around and mixing and matching gear today. Put my Redbacks back into my 2x12 Randall cab and fired up the old Sunn Enforcer and hit it with my OD9. I had both channel A and channel B engaged. Thing sounds fkn bitch'in lol 🤘😎

And I try not to be like everybody else

rancid yew
#

My tones were a little shitty since I used a bass with flatwounds for the "guitar" tracks

nimble jungle

But I already use a 5150 variant

rancid yew

Two "guitar" tracks and the entire bass track were the Enforcer and Enforcer 4x12 miced

hexed igloo
#

go hard

#

while i agree that like, gojira and evh are okay enough? you just dont get the full range of what you can do w/ tapping through them

#

this song is how i learned tapping

#

its hard, but when you get it down its so good

#

some other songs with tapping:
Death - Crystal Mountain
The Fall of Troy - I Just Got This Symphony Goin'
Delta Sleep - 21 Letters
Don Cab - DETAILS ON HOW TO GET ICEMAN ON YOUR LICENSE PLATE
Uchu Conbini - 8films, Pyramid, EverythingChanges
Protest The Hero - Sextapes, Tongue Splitter
Chon - Bubble Dream, Pitch Dark
Covet - literally every song, Yvette is a fingerstyle player so her music is always full of tapping
Elephant Gym - same deal, less tapping than Covet but there's still a lot + KT uses bass tapping
Plini - Electric Sunrise
TTNG - If I Sit Still, Maybe I'll Get Out Of Here

chat

#

i need a good black metal tone

#

(sounds stupid lol)

#

something with archetype gojira

graceful socket
#

Black Metal? Aight. Just crank everything to max, run it through 2 distortion pedals, put a sheet metal trashcan over your monitors and stick a mic from the outside through the trashcan. || /s ||

toxic wharf
#

well

toxic wharf
#

I like the way it sounds in the mix but I was thinking of trying some other options

rancid yew
rancid yew
toxic wharf
#

But I started a black metal band and recorded 2 songs with that tone without changing it

rancid yew
#

Your tone sounds like if Gojira did black metal

toxic wharf
#

That's why it's unusual for black metal

rancid yew
#

It's not a bad tone at all, it rules!

#

Wasn't criticizing it at all 🙂

toxic wharf
#

I have Gojira riff in one of the song

rancid yew
#

It'll sound great in a mix but most of black metal tonally is... well... not so great tones 😅

rancid yew
#

Usually because guitarists were working with whatever they got their hands on back then. Tiny Yamaha or Peavey amps, etc. Hell, Batory's first album was done through a tiny Yamaha combo for guitar AND bass

toxic wharf
#

Well
I won't lie, I don't do mixes, but I try to do more non-typical black metal and rather the kind that I like, and I'm not a fan of classic black metal

rancid yew
#

Sweden didn't have a ton of imported amps at that point. They used whatever they could get their hands on. Usually not ideal equipment, which led to some very harsh, yet cold and atmospheric tones

toxic wharf
toxic wharf
#

Cool facts

rancid yew
rancid yew
#

Well... Scandinavia as a whole

#

If you know Swedish death metal, Entombed used a tiny Peavey Studio Pro 40 and a BOSS HM-2 for Left Hand Path. The non chainsaw tracks were a BOSS DS-1 and a Yamaha amp iirc

#

Mayhem had an album that used unmastered drums. Black metal musicians back then didn't really care about mixing like most musicians do today haha

toxic wharf
rancid yew
#

Hell yeah!

toxic wharf
rancid yew
#

For the record, your tone is way better than nearly any original black metal album. Technology is great, if they had what we have now back then, those albums would sound far different

rancid yew
# toxic wharf

I'm digging this! The riffs are definitely black metal-y. Very atmospheric

#

The vocals are spot on too

toxic wharf
rancid yew

The ending is very Gojira

#

This is actually amazing. I love it!

Darkness squeezed the heart, fettered the breath,
The stars went out in black eyes.

But each step is only an illusion of light.

This is our Spotify

#

Neither of the song versions on Spotify are the final ones. We rerecorded Slaughtered In Moments and remastered Citylights

My personal favorite tracks are Slaughtered In Moments, Futility, Jagged Crown, and Corpse Party. Like Rain is the lightest track

toxic wharf
# rancid yew

I'll listen a little later because I'm on the road now

rancid yew
#

I did guitars, bass, and some vocals (lead vocals on Alice and backing vocals of Citylights)

#

I also did some mixing and mastering, also drum programming on Futility

#

Jordy did some guitars, vocals, most of the drum programming, and helped with mixing and mastering

#

Jordy wrote Did I Miss Anything?, Requiem, Come Up Come Down, and Like Rain. I wrote Citylights, Slaughtered In Moments, Futility, Jagged Crown, Alice, and Grove Oak Deception. Me and Jordy did half of the writing each for Fleeting and Corpse Party 🙂

Apparently, Warmoth (the big parts company) will let you pick out pickguard samples (3 per order) to accurately match a new pickguard to the finish and hardware of your instrument because of the variances between manufacturers (Mint and cream colors were mentioned specifically), cameras, display monitors, the human eye and the lighting in the room you play in.

interesting

tardy glacier

because the M-1000HT is my dream affordable guitar though, regarding both looks and specs but my problem is that its a hardtail (even tho its hipshot) bridge instead of a Floyd or well as i stated an Evertune, because im genuinely so annoyed and pissed already on my ec-1000 for holding tune worse than a 50EUR guitar lmfao. so probably the m1001 it would be then

#

this one

tardy glacier
#

appreciate it 🤝

balmy vortex
#

we can get you that as well

tardy glacier
#

im guessing you guys have a 1 year warranty instead of a 3 year oneo?

balmy vortex
#

standard warranty ofc, cuz thats mandatory in europe

#

but if something happens after the first month its mainly the factory warranty so we'd have to do communications with our supplier and manufacturer instead

tardy glacier
#

i see

balmy vortex
#

most kinks will get iron'ed out before you even get the guitar tbh

#

and also, do you know how to stretch out your strings after restringing your guitar?

tardy glacier
#

if you happen to make a setup with different string gauge as in file the nut slots bigger, would the warranty still work overall if a fault got to do with anything but the nut

tardy glacier
#

and i stretch them a ton

tardy glacier
balmy vortex
#

on a hardtail we would tho

tardy glacier
#

on a hardtail

#

for example

balmy vortex
#

its part of the warranty cuz it would need to happen anyway for a good set up

#

but only when we do it before you get it

#

if you got it done by a third party then it wouldnt count

tardy glacier
#

oh okay

#

and it would make the whole warranty null and void?

balmy vortex
#

on the nut yes

tardy glacier
#

but rest of the guitar is still covered right

balmy vortex
#

depends on what the subsequential problems would be

tardy glacier
#

pickup malfunction

#

for example

balmy vortex
#

that has nothing to do with the setup so yes thats still warranty viable

tardy glacier
#

i see

#

thanks

#

though what type of warranty covered problems could even exist

#

besides pickup malfunction

balmy vortex
#

strings and set up problems

tardy glacier
#

so tuning stability as well?

balmy vortex
#

or if you dent/chip the finish

#

no

#

depends on the severity

tardy glacier
balmy vortex
#

but you'd be surprised with how dumb some people are

tardy glacier
#

i meant like what problems coudl you get fixed with a warranty with my question, sorry lmao

tardy glacier
#

ive heard some absurd stories

tardy glacier
#

might just do a new string change soon

#

and if my tuning is still such crap i might try and get thomann to check it out with my warranty or smth

#

because it used to be fine iirc

#

also i do have a question though, do you guys take in custom modifications on already existing guitars?

balmy vortex
#

depends what you want to do

tardy glacier
#

as in if i wanted to replace the hipshot with a double locking floyd on the m-1000ht for example

balmy vortex
#

oh god thats an extreme modification we wont easily do

#

there's a lot more that goes into that then you might think of

tardy glacier
#

yea true

#

cutting the cavity

#

etc

#
  • id reckon that process alone would cost half the guitar lol
#
  • pay for the trem system
balmy vortex
#

basically

tardy glacier
#

damn you esp for not being more diverse with your model specs ☠️

#

have you tried a hipshot bridge btw?

#

i heard that theyre one of the nicest bridges for palm muting

#

regarding comfort

i mean like, even as far as the lowest heaviest bands go

#

Frontierer - no evertune
Boris - no evertune
Nightmarer - no evertune
Thou - no evertune

balmy vortex
#

Correct

#

You dont need an evertune even if youre touring

#

Tho if youre touring the world often i might consider it at that point depending on usecase

balmy vortex
hexed igloo
#

in my eyes its a waste of money

#

like a HUGE waste of money

balmy vortex
#

Nah, there are usecases

hexed igloo
#

hipshots do the job perfectly fine for like a third of price + they're way more comfortable

hexed igloo
balmy vortex
#

I know a few bands that tour with 2 guitars in total to keep their footprint smaller and for that it makes a lot of sense

#

There are definite use cases for evertunes but 99% of people dont need them

hexed igloo
#

tbh maybe my view would change if more people i liked started picking up evertunes but i genuinely dont think i've ever seen them outside of djent lmao

balmy vortex

Also devin townsend

especially his stuff ziltoid onwards

He's definitely not lmao

He's just prog metal

i guess it leans more on the prog side than metalcore like most other djent music but still

Except that djent came from progressive death metal OMEGALUL

thats if you consider meshuggah djent

They're not

im ngl ive always just seen meshuggah as thrash lmao

balmy vortex
#

Thats what they came from for sure

hexed igloo
#

i know they changed their sound a LOT on nothing but i dont really listen to much from that era

balmy vortex
#

But theyre definitely heavier and the vocals are a lot harsher

hexed igloo
#

but like VSOR and DEI are straight up thrash to me

balmy vortex
#

Well yeah DEI was their first proper album as the actual flavour of meshuggah

hexed igloo
#

but anyway yeah like devin to me is kinda djent kinda not but thats still just one dude lmao

#

thats not offsetting the spirit-lane-riphery-ivals-eract djent shite by much

balmy vortex

#

Car bomb

#

Thats basically an infusion of meshuggah and fear factory

#

Also, Danskimo with ECB has a schecter signature with an evertune guitar

hexed igloo
#

i still cant believe he just straight up plays a gibson in that tuning lmao

schecter on their way to make the greatest guitars ever then ruin it with their shitty neck shape 😭
