#Guitars & Bass
1 messages · Page 18 of 1
i mean what else can u do
you're tuning your guitar to the low string on the bass i think
on a 4 string at least
just dont bother with bass ig
your guitar is bass
exceopt the guitar tone in all recordings is like 60% bass
something u could try is keeping the bass standard, so its the same pitch as the guitar
because it still covers difference frequencies in the mix
different
but idk you probably just have to find a spare bridge cable for a string and tune down
Tbh I don’t think you’ll even be able to hear bass anyways so don’t worry about it
Your guitar will probably do the job for you
don’t listen to the guys saying not to add bass
bass covers a very different frequency range in songs and even if you don’t necessarily “hear” it you will absolutely hear its absence
question for the true believers in here
i was looking at some seymour duncan pickups that are active pickups, but they have a passive mounting option
and for some reason that's the only option that isn't elaborated on
i'm assuming i'd want passive mounting cause my guitar came with passive pickups?

lukewarm picks
not saying he's wrong but he could be more right
Lol I wouldn't know I don't listen to Trivium.
The only songs I've heard from them is What the Dead Men Say, and In Waves. The latter I didn't care for lol.
And I think one other song....
Can't remember tho.
Until the world goes cold is a good one
go check out the entire Shogun album
from start to finish
Are rubber strap locks any good?
Well I wouldn't prefer rubber but they're ok I guess
Good enough for the strap not to come off?
That's with any strap, no matter what you put on it
My strap comes off all the time
Might have to get a new strap
Well I’m wondering if a rubber strap lock would save me from getting a new strap
The more I play with EZD3 in different mixes I have the more I like it.
Especially compared to 2.
I forgot how easy EZD is to use over Kontakt libraries.
Or at least over GGD.
For sure, the editor is great
i gave it a go myself
and it definitely has better sounds
so i combo'd it with the GGD P5 kit and it works pretty well overall
pearl reference kicks, periphery cymbals, and the significantly better-sounding snare and toms from EZD3
The GGD stuff is very "hi-fi" sounding which for texture and certain styles is great. But EZD3 seems like it's mostly pure tonage.
those are definitely words
this goes more into the category of that meme about guitar players and adding scrongle to their tones
no the GGD stuff i find sounds very high quality for what it is but with a very fixed sound. even if you go into the settings and change stuff like the snare top, snare bottom, kick in, kick out, tuning, mics, you'll never really change the sound
the EZD3 stuff, at least in the demo, all have very different sounds that can be more easily modified it seems altho the tuning setting in there is fucking useless
I feel that cuz the GGD stuff is for very few specific styles (that being djenty stuff) minus maybe the Benny Greb. The One Kit Wonders are great because they mix up the styles of music, but they are....y'know....one kit.

It's why I'm of the opinion that bass should never follow the guitar one to one
finally found the tremolo bar for my ibanez
whats a good string gauge for drop g on bass
can anyone give recs of reliable brands or whatever
ik ernie ball exists but idk if they have stuff thats as good for drop tuning
Yeah they do
oh alr
Mostly for drop tuning I'd get something with thicker lower strings
what do u know thats good for drop g, which is a standard but with top string down a step
well yeah but what specific gauge would u guess is good
rn i still have the stock ones
and i cant droptune at all or its all flubby
5
but looking back on it it should have saved my money and got a 4 string anyways
i dont use the top string at all
For drop g yeah
Thicker strings are better for lower tunings
yeah ik
but its how thick to the tuning i was trying to figure out
i use power slinkies for half step down on one of my normal guitars
and then the beefy ones for drop c
for my current 7 string i think i gave up on searching and took a normal 8 string pack and just dropped the top string
or no it was the skinny top heavy bottom
i took the top one from that and from there dropped all the strings, the old b string became e and so on
my 7 string is a mess lol
For drop c I still just use regular ernie ball strings
oh
for me it feels too loose
i like to feel some resistance when im playing but thats personal preference
Easier bends tho
yeah ig
It also helps with the higher end of the guitar
I'd say use regular strings for as low as drop b, unless 7 string probably drop g
Then from there use thicker gauge strings
what do you guys think of the mixing/tone and suggestions
i didnt do drums, clearly, im looking for suggestions on bass and guitar tone
skip to around 30 seconds
the rest is the intro that i havent completed
What kind of amps or plugins are you using?
The bass sounds pretty good
The guitar might need a little more cleaning up but it's also pretty good
ive found some nice free ones and then just a good ir
for the bass its the ignite shb-1 with this ir
yeah im amazed at this free bass amp
its professional quality
for the guitar ill find a better amp
im using a mediocre 5150 copy
and then just eq that ive tweaked by ear
oh and also this could be important
im using a compressor
its called an sa76 i think
but that one costs money
but u could go without
For a second I thought you hung your guitar upside down lmao
what kinda picks do you people use?
i use red jazz iiis too
yeah they are cool im gonna try something different next time so im gonna try those next
the ernie ball picks are really thick
with a rounded edge
excellent for tremolo picking
those are cool picks, i like using them for stuff with a lot ot attack
ny go to is the petrucci jazz 3s which are jazz 3s but bigger
ill also use a variety of others depending on what I'm playing
i like small picks for alternate/economy picking
the small jazz 3s are ok, but theyre super tiny
i have a tendency to not leave enough pick because my thumb covers it
i also like the dunlop flow picks for everything when i can't find my favorite picks
theyre also good for bass
just keep trying all different ones until u find ones you really like
maybe i did maybe i didnt
yeah i havent used anything but jazz iiis since day one so im just looking to try new things
well try out the flow picks, theyre cool, you should try the prodigy's too
and anything else that catches your eye, picks are really entirely a preference thing
which u learn through trial and error
okay i will do that also i need help with finding my next amp
what genre and price range
okay will do that next time im there and i will get a job to afford one
theres a logo on the pick guard above the neck pickup
find that seller and youll find the guitar unless its a custom shop
thats a classical style headstock, which makes me think it's a custom shop
im considering buying a jackson guitar for $580 (aud). my question is do i trust it?
We need a bit more info I think. What do you mean by trusting it?
Like the seller?
i mean like jackson guitars arent usually that cheap
na i know the seller is legit cus ive been to the store a few times
its a JS series
yeah this does seem to be the budget series
so i mean with the info you've given us i'd say go for it
its called this: Jackson JS Series Dinky JS32 DKAP
Buy the guitar and shred.
Yes, that price is fine.
Even a bit on the pricey side for a European here.
But dont know the prices in Aussieland
im not that great but i will definetly enjoy the guitar
yeah it's like $200 cheaper in CAD
Yeah, could just be Australian pricing.
it is yeah
Guitarmarket be weird like that.
them dudes have crazy inflation
could be
25.5", 6 string, floyd rose w/ bar
cool
Wouldnt buy any guitar under 1500 with a floyd myself
yeah floyds aren't ideal for beginners
na id say im intermediate
what i will say is my current and most recent guitar is a jackson and it's incredible
well worth the price

ye it just makes string changes and tuning different
i've never owned one myself
so i can't really speak to that
also another thing i didnt mention is that the seller allows refunds so if i dont like it i can give it back
well there you go
Yeah, definitely not a scam

need help finding this amp
that looks almost like a bass amp
looks like the ninja combo
took a while to find, logo in bottom right seems more uncommon
it says randall thanks for the help
its got monster metal tones and ive actually been playing said metal tones with a telecaster
shite picture but this is the guitar

oh the allpedals one?
i wanna get the allpedals slamurai overdrive
shits gnasty
wooo that thing is making my headphones quake in their boots
i gave up on this one pedal a while back but now im playing it with a clean amp and damn its cool
the earthquaker acapulco sounds like shit on an amp that already has gain
but if you're using it as the amps gain its cool as fuck
its like the guitars volume knob is its gain knob
but man it sounds like shit with other gain or a compressor
My first guitar
a good beginner song id recommend is cliffs of dover
I don’t know about that song and i don’t have a amp
listen to it
its an inspiring song
it might even inspire you to quit
And i don’t know to drop tune like c and b drop tune
And I only wanted playing something like metalcore.
you have to play it you have a strat
Eric Johnson with Kyle Brock and Tommy Taylor performing "Cliffs Of Dover" on December 14th, 1988 . This performance is available on the New West records CD and DVD entitled "Eric Johnson Live from Austin Texas". Original studio version is available on the Capitol Records CD entitled "Ah Via Musicom". Check out ericjohnson.com and facebook.com/o...
i saw this live and people were clapping after for a solid minute or smth
its such a cool song
also that has single coils so good luck with anything high gain
til you can buy a 9 string for only like 500 usd
idk man the my tele sounds brootal with gain
also this was my first guitar but i didnt have the amp https://reverb.com/item/80826001-first-act-me431-electric-guitar-first-act-battery-powered-practice-amp-cable-black
ive heard teles on the neck pickup are pretty good
a strat idk never tried it
i can try it rn
so you want to play metalcore but chose a guitar without a bridge humbucker?
was about to say
What about Like grunge?
for almost anything nowadays id say have a humbucker that you can coil split
im all for making choices n stuff, but as of rn the guitar you've chosen i wouldnt really choose for metalcore or anything high gain
this would be more my pick, this fgn has a second switch that turns the humbucker into a single coil
he can try the neck pickup
i know tele's are good for high gain at the neck
strats could also be
but maybe its in a different place
how does gojira do their scrapes
i figured out my own way that sounds cool which is the 3.2 fret natural harmonic
but how are their specific ones done
Muted pick scraps...slide with left hand over strings
yeah neck pickup is it not really the bridge
Idk why but I feel more natural doing rakes with my thumbnail instead of the pick lol
whats ur pick like
Wym
maybe a stiffer pick will work better for the scrapes
i havent really looked at my guitars in a bit
the bat inlays on my schecter look so cool
No I mean the scrapes with the pick don't feel bad my wrist just feels more comfortable with my thumb's position
oh i see
Looks kinda goofy but it sounds virtually the same
Anyone knows how to get a good tone for Skramz using the Gojira plugin? I am recording a song for a project
i perfectly captured the reign in blood tone from slayer for my in the room sound
watch it sound totally different when i put the mic to it

if you're looking for a good budget amp you can find those tiny orange combos for like 60-70 used
and they're killer my dad has one
i mean
at least it has a mid control
my first 2 amps didnt
Help please
have u got a sample album for a tone to try to get
i can go based off of smth like that
Flowers Taped To Pens - Clever Pessimistic Remarks
s/t
http://flowerstapedtopens.bandcamp.com
i'll sigh under my breath and look but never stare,
ghosts that surround myself just look but no one is there,
I'm tired of the person in the puddle not looking forward to tomorrow,
i'll ask whats left to say i guess i am not okay,
when all have ...
@bright latch try smth like this
then tweak gain however u like
but i have the od pedal on for a slight boost
u dont have to
can you please tell me the numbers on the amp?
its the natural amp with the gain at like 3 bass 5 mid 6 treb 5-6
level 5-6
od on with dist 0 level about 12:00 and tone about 1:00
oh and i have bright on on the amp
so how did it work for you
i will test it in a sec
if gain is too much roll it back on the amp
or screw around with the overdrive see what happens
but this should be a decent baseline
New arrivals
2nd one looks yucky, last one looks like it tastes good
have u takeb a bite out if them yet
Ngl all of those look delicious
Holy shit. That last one is sexy af
this is true haha
metal zone is my favorite pedal now
who new all it took was a mod to stop it sounding like shit
it sounds glorious now
i can record it later
Check it ou guys it sounds like im in drop D when im in E standard
what in gods name is that camera angle
showing us his balls
airing them out
Ah yes, the perfect gauge sets for my thall guitar
wtf is that ball shot camera angle
Also how does that sound like drop D
i mean if u play everything but the bottom 2 frets on the e string then its the same
poor guy is never gonna have the camera below his waist again lmao
same lol
Yessss?
would it be possible for me to tune a b standard 7 string to a drop a# on the lowest string
so the tuning is fast and all that
like from beadgbe to a#fa#d#gc
because i was worried that the low e string would get really tight
Nah. It’s the high e you should be worried about
When I tune that low on my 7 string and then tune back up the high e usually breaks
So you want the guitar to be drop a# only?
trivium is in b standard?
i might also play some dream theater
thats cool
but i dont listen to a lot of metalcore
mostly death metal stuff
and prog
but i like aild
so maybe ill try them later
Do you listen to Lorna shore?
hell yeah
but i dont really hear the riffs on a lorna shore song
its mostly austins double pedal
Hmm really?
my 7 string is coming in january next year
so ive got a lot of time to practice some riffs
Nice! Which guitar is it?
its a custom made in ambarawa, indonesia
i took the body of a kiesel type x and added local boutique pickups and a hardtail headless bridge
like this
I have this one
but in the end i chose the type x cus it looks metal as fuck
thats a nice one
is that a fishman?
Yes I am!! They are tied for my favourite band
I can’t choose between 4 bands lol
Trivium, slipknot, bmth, architects
I’m dying to see them!!
my top 4 would probably be cattle decapitation, megadeth, lamb of god, in flames
Nice!! I love all of them
theres a rumor that bmth is coming to indonesia next year
hell yeahh
i really regret not seeing in flames earlier this year
Nice! I saw them in Sydney and it was my favourite day ever
have you heard the name freedom of fear?
i saw them earlier this month and theyre fucking amazing
tech death kinda stuff
Ooo no I haven’t. Ill check them out later
some are in drop g# as well
my crackpot theory is trivium stuff is in a# instead of a because they still have that contract with gibson/epiphone and matt uses his signature model live and it's 25.5" so it can't actually go to a
honestly as enamoured as i was with it the first time i played it, playing it after getting that multiscale jackson got me like 🥴
real
cause there ain't aren't none
Right forgot about that. Wretchedness inside ect…

closest thing we're getting to nu-metal trivium
but yeah also trivium 7-string riffs in B standard can be played in A standard they'll just sound more evil
Does anyone know a good practice routine they can share? I feel like what I’m doing is useless and fruitless
Prolly gonna get this for my birthday
Depends. Id be careful with tuning up, especially considering its a 7 string with probably relatively thick strings
You ought to be worrying about your neck. It can take a lot but this entails quite some strain
im angry
apparently i cant play bass the traditional way because my wrist wont bend enough
ive dislocated it and broken my armcabd fractured it so its at a point where it wont flex more than like 45 deg
is this fixable
maybe if i break it again they can set it to fix it
this is frustrating bc my guitar teacher was showing me how to do bass but i cant flex my wrist all tye way so its weird
Whats that?
Line 6 pod express bass. It's a pedal/ pre amp for bass with amp sims and multiple effects
Oh wow thats pretty cool.
Thats actually really cool. I think i know what i will invest my summerjobs money in
same lol
what's it cost
200€ @dire kayak
does anyone here has experience on pedal troubleshooting
my wah pedal is not working for some reason
tried swaping the dpdt for a 3pdt switch but its still the same
elaborate
common issues are also with the potentiometer on the sliding thingy
at first it was working
and i maybe stomped too hard and broke the switch or so i thought
so i opened it and swapped the switch
still not working
only sound coming out is static
and it doesnt bypass
check power and the guitar inputs
oh
nvm its not power
its probably guitar inputs those jacks will wear out with enough time
do cables pull out very easily
if power is the issue i could use another power supply
wah pedals idk ive researched in the past for a power supply
probably not
check guitar inputs
its in the box rn and its midnight
ill update you later
if thats the case then all i had to do is connect them again right?
spent over a hundred replacing pickups before realizing i needed a new input jack
you might need to buy new ones and solder them
ah ive got plenty of them
ok ill explain the issue in guessing
i make pedals in my spare time
the pin that connects to the back part of the cable is used so much it gets pushed aside
eventually to the point of not working
or
the part i think is grounding is effectively sanded down over time so the cable doesnt make enough contact with the sleeve of the jack
for my gio i just took the jack from some spare guitar parts and it worked fine
and i had upgraded pickups because i thought those were the issue in the first place
now i have a gio guitar that sounds like a million bucks
just check the jack make sure its getting ok connection
if u have a multimeter just do that
touch the tip of the cable as well as wherever the tip goes in the jack
where it leads to i mean
yeah yeah
ok i think i found the problem
the cable that connects from the board to the switch wasnt connected properly
i think i need to resolder
oh
its not
it was a cold solder joint on the ground
youre right
holy shit
what can i say, just basic troubleshooting
although when youve been working on something for a while it helps to bring in someone else, you might miss an obvious solution they can help with
have fun playing Metallica solos now
welp
now you could be getting into power issues
obviously first check the power from the jack
it should read 9 volts right
yeah i think pedals are 9v
idk how many milliamps though, aby power supply should worm
i think i use 9v 500mA and it works
i use a daisy chain though for 8 pedals
i think its eating the amps a bit too much
ok so i tried it with another power supply and it still doesnt work
fuck then
Is in unconventional for the bass to play chords? (Not just the root note)
In certain situations could it work?
For instance, I wrote a riff for guitar that is a kind of arpeggiated chords, but also has a melody. The problem is that it sounds kind of empty alone, like how a guitar solo without chords in the background sounds empty. I wrote for the bass to play the chords and it somewhat fixed the issue
I can send the riff if it would help
Is the squire classic vibe telecaster baritone good for some drop E chugs?
If I slap on some thick strings and adjust the neck
Also are the stock pickups good for that low tuned sound?
if its a baritone theyre probably already fine if theyre humbuckers
I think they’re single coils
But like tele single coils
have u play tested it in gc
no my local guitar store doesnt have them in their shop, only online purchase
maybe a good tone will make up for the single coils
I wonder if u can put a bridge humbucker in a tele
well u can but the question is how difficult is it
yeah ig you can but i don't want to spend to much money on it. just need a cheap chug machine really
I have a 7 string also but baritones are cool
the issue with a cheap chug machine is it can get muddy
like my Jackson
i still gotta upgrade its pickups
yeah but with some eq and shit
i want it to sound dirty and raw
maybe
do they have a return policy
if u dont like it just return it
i think they do, i will go there the next weekend and ask them about it
even if they dont have it physically maybe they can give their opinion
well guitars are pretty subjective
true
I live in sweden so we dont have any guitar centers sadly
oh
it will be difficult to find irl
well u can always get a plane /j
yeah i wish lol
i mean i got my current favorite guitar online by looking at reviews
yeah ive looked at a few and it sounds pretty good to me
I hope the low tuning and the perfect tone will make it sound brutal
id check return policy, if you have one, then get it bc you have no worries
I have a strat with stock pickups which sounds pretty bad ass when pitched down to like double drop D
Yeah ill do that probably
im going for loathe type tone
dirty and low
I think I found one store actually
ill try it irl
ive only been to hardcore shows this is actually my first metal one
so I'm looking forward to it i just keep forgetting its coming up
i got tickets months in advance for 20 usd which is like 200kr, now theyre above 40 usd
yeah thrown have gotten really popular, but 40 is still a fair price imo
ive never been to a hardcore show except for some local shitty bands
thats all hardcore shows pretty much
but im near Los Angeles area so theres some good ones
yeah id imagine
the latest show I went to was polaris and thornhill in march
was great
damn that sounds fun
yeah i travelled for like 7 hours to denmark to see them haha
ur cool can i add u
sure
damn thats a hell of a commitment to see a show
farthest ive traveled is an hour to LA and thats most shows
yeah but i got to talk to thornhill and got free merch lol
lucky
theyre very chill
i think most underground ish bands are
not big enough to be tired of fans just enough to still be chill people that its cool to meet
yeah they were running their own merch table which was cool
Cant out-EQ the inherent characteristics of a pick up
nope but i can try to make it sound beefier
@dire kayak seems like the stock pickups are the same ones that come with the squire bass VI
So they should be fine I think
Well, I got new toy
super nice strat
Guys can you give me advice, what song with medoicre riff and solo i can learn? I've been practicing beast and the harlot by a7x (just for reference) lately but turns out this one is harder that i thought and it's going to take me one more year to play at full speed
I'm actively trying to find a bassist for my band, if anyone is interested feel free to dm me!
if it sounds good then yeah
i think as i lay dying arent that hard
rammstein would be really easy
or maybe try like iron maiden old school metal stuff
This is literally what im doing lol
It feels like no one plays bass
It seems like it lol

Not big on his music but his channel is great
Finally someone also calling out Glenn Frickers BS lmao
buddy holly
Anyone know a good place to start for free/cheap digital preamps?
ignite has some cool stuff
you're talking about plugins right?
ignite has good amp plugins
I played a choppy melody on guitar and made a harmony with it and added some other stuff, thoughts?
Been thinking of getting an 8 string
Would anyone have any suggestions?
Keep in mind I'm EU and it's shipping to Ireland
Does anyone hear have this guitar?
I might get it but I want to know if Solar is worth it.
@little gale you're the resident Solar guy
I own a couple of 1 series guitars and i’ve plated a couple of series 2 guitars as well. They’re pretty great in my opinion.
anyone know how the very beginning of suffocate is played
it sounds like palm mutes and them something that could be a slide that sounds weird
im sure its simple and im missing the obvious again
i wonder if i can convert my mini strat into a baritone
since its already worthless may as well try modding it with a 50/50 chance of working
wait this might be possible
ok im gonna look into the cost of modding my first guitar which is a mini strat into a baritone
neck looks like 70 bucks unfinished but i have materials to finish it already
will a 30 in baritone do drop f do u guys think
I have neither but I do own and dearly love my Solar A2.7
So do you think I should get it?
watch the music video, that´s helping a lot. It´s muted chugs with some non-muted after and finally like a hammer-on into slide, back into muted and then open
Depends on what you´re looking for. All I can say is that I really like the feel of mine, their signature Solar pickups sound great and it´s everything you could want from a mid-price range guitar.
But then again, it depends on what you´re looking for
I want a 7 string that sounds heavy
Seems like this will work right. And I love bright colors
yeah, it can do that, easy.
Question is how low you want to tune because that could cause issues but not necessarily. I´ve got my 26.5" 7 set up in Drop E (which is abysmally low) and it works just fine for my taste, though that´s then again preference of how tight you like the tension to be. It certainly has some slight issues with holding such a low tuning but everything up to Drop G# you can do without any issues.
Additionally, a lot of heaviness is in the tone (if not most tbh)
The lowest I normally go is Drop G# rarely will I go to Drop E
Then you should have no issues with tuning
I think this guitar will be just perfect for me.
cool ty
anyone had experience with dimarzio dreamcatcher/rainmaker set? been planning to change the seymour duncan hyperions from my ibanez az as i want more tighter sound.
Only you can decide that. And in most cases when people ask for recommendations in here and already provide a couple, they're only seeking confirmation bias as they've pretty much made up their mind.
An alternative I do is leave the decision to chance, so flip a coin/roll a dice. heads/evens option 1, tails/odds option 2. If it lands on option 1 and I feel regret saddened by it, then I know I should go with option 2. If I felt no regret or happy about it landing on 1 then I'd go with my first choice.
Also good tip, if you're using all your savings to buy this then don't. Make sure you have at least double the amount (I prefer triple as an extra buffer) in savings. That way it doesn't feel like you're blowing all your savings on it and less pressure on the purchase. You also protect yourself long term should something go wrong with it or another issue pops up you still have money aside to deal with it instead of zeroing out your savings.
strings on my schecter keep falling out of the floyd rose bridge
it happens when i bend at all really
its using pretty heavy strings but its in drop c
Seems like a bad set up job.
the bridge floats fine, intonation and action are good
what else could be wrong
it has 4 springs becase i was too lazy to just tighten the 3 a lot
i have 2 other floyd rose guitars and ive set them up tens of time and they're fine
and this schecter has been fine until now
it was in standard with normal slinkys
guys, is there a big difference between 0.50 and 0.45 bass strings?
.45 is lighter
does anyone know if i could connect the send of my orange combo to the return of my peavey windsor so that i can basically slave the amps
Okay guys I got a question
For at least guitars meant for distortion. What’s the difference between studio settings and live settings?
How does it sound different
?
What do you mean by that question? A studio is a highly controlled environment. You dont only have control over your recording environment (room, amount of people therein, and so forth) but you also have control in the post recording process
Live this goes all out of the window. You have some control over your EQ but other than that theres a lot of uncontrolleable variables that will influence the sound. Experienced touring musicians will be able to adapt to this
I mean, I’ve heard that a lot of bands have a studio setting for their guitars where it sounds better in studio, but also have a live setting where it sounds better in concert, but I don’t know the difference
Depends on the amp. A lot of it has to do with the bass and the relationship between the guitars and bass live vs in the studio. Usually in the studio, because the guitars will be processed anyways, you can mess with the guitar amp how you want until you find THAT sound. The processing will then enhance it. For live, because you're pushing a real guitar and bass amp you have to work with your bassist more on levels, EQ, and even your fx so that that nothing overlaps (or at least try the best you can) because you can't don't have the luxuries you have in the studio. It's even harder with two guitarists who use two different amps and cabs or modeler settings. Hence why soundcheck exists.
A teacher of mine said a good mix, both studio and live, is what separates the big bands from the smaller ones. Unless you're into punk in which case it doesn't matter lol.
Okay cool, thank you
Guys i want to use neurol dsp for the forst time and i wanted to ask you which amp is the best for modern metalcore like architects or other stuff like darko us type shit
Just use the free trial for Nolly, Gojira, Plini
See which one you like best
okey thanks
darko us is not the most reasonable sound to chase
especially on a budget
but yeah what ol mate don said
those three are essentially the best for any type of modern high gain sound
okey thx :)
What string gauge should I use for double drop C# with 27’?
use a string gauge calculator on stringjoy website
I like gojira or petrucci
Gojira sounds a little more aggressive
Jackson has some crazy 8 strings
I own one they’re pretty reliable
Cheers man I'll check them out
there's also that ibanez one that andrew banana reviewed recently, if eight strings are what you want

Between the marshall dsl20 cr, boss katana 50 and yamaha thr 30 w which one would be better suited for home use for an intermediate player?
hey there, i just saw this thread and decided to come and say hi
I have been doing guitar lessons for over a year and its close to two now
i have been working on a lot of different tunes for a while now
me cries in been playing guitar for 4 years and still haven’t created a song
i was kinda looking for a place to mainly talk about music, maybe send some stuff here and have people share their thoughts
Here's my most recent tune. I made this like not two hours ago.
and here's an improvised riff to go
@toxic wharf what do ya think?
my left hand was getting a bit tired during this, that's why some notes weren't pushed properly
Just learning to play bass, any tips?
I don't have a guitar....
I only have a bass, and a broken string guitar
And an acoustic
I don’t play bass so…….. yah
.........sweet
Bassists don’t get the girls apparently
||jk||
That’s the point of instruments
||jk||
bass lines are pretty easy to do imo
I do vocals too
i have no idea how they are on an actual bass though
I played rosemary on it once
try and learn from some of the best bassists of all time
Cliff Burton is a good example
Hmm alright
well at the very least they get the most badass of weapons
imagine getting hit in the face by a mace that is also a bass
BASS MACE 2 THE FACE
Good point…
Same. Good thing vocalists get the girls
Yeah.. I know
Vocalists and guitarists
And I do both🗿😎
I feel like guitar is more fun than bass…
||I’ve never touched a bass in my life||
me neither
I've touched three
but i would definitely give it a shot, given i've mostly played on the heavier notes for most of my learning experience
Neither do thirsty vocalists and guitarplayers
okay yall, you wanna hear what would be the IDEAL cover to do?
Through Glass by Stone Sour....in the style of Slipknot
in your opoiniin
which is harder, death metal ir post hardvire
i just git out of the shower
dripoing water
i have not listened to post hardcore at all
the heaviest shit i have ever listened to is prolly grindcore, and i don't mean it in a good way.
i dunno about you guys, but even though i enjoy the dissonance and frantic tension of a lot of the heavier metal genres, there's often these very specific genres that to me sound like straight up noise. And grindcore is definitely one of them for me.
the heaviest i can handle is death metal, deathcore, sludge/ doom metal/ psychedelic, and black metal.
im also a beginner too but im a few weeks ahead of you
so
i suggest learning pick first
learn the music theory stuff bc its actually important ish for bass
then learn how to finger ur bass
im like, but specifically i enjoy cattle decap and no other hahaha idk exactly but hearing cannibal corpse or anal cunt lyrics is horrific. post hardcore is pretty nice and it evokes alot of emotion, i especially like the double bass runs on them
like hearing a alt rock song but with double bass and added agressiveness
eh, for me CC's lyrics are a cross between childlishly edgy and oh my lord kind of horrific
its definitely a great signature that goes perfectly along with their technical yet heavy sound
yeah im more of a melodic and technical death metal guy
carcass is a meh for me
too raw if i might say
i just got a fuzz pedal it'll be here tomorrow so thats cool
speaking of pedals, got a gift a month ago
New Standart Tuning for Modern Metal?

New standard tuning for modern metal is still regular 6 string E standard.
It's what you do with it that matters

A 30 inch baritone 7 string.
Ray that is cracked.
Big beefy beefcake of a guitar.
I'd love to play one of those
would you say these are stage ready?
I can't answer that as I never went on a stage or plan to.
Would say that it has all basic stuff for a sound. Amp, cab, delay, noise, distortion, EQ and few other things I dont remember
ah, here
Never tried it nope lol
Demon hunter 🥴
Ahhh the humble valeton
A good budget fx box
From the same company that makes the ampero
Which is their top notch modeler
Phinehas 😏
Hmmmm… oh sleeper, lightworker, impending doom?
I need a bit of assistance, I need to remove a bridge from an RG470 I think its an Edge 2, would anoyone be able to point out on a photo what needs to be removed to seperate the bridge from the body please ❤️
wait am I fucking stoopid, do the springs just hold it in lol
jesus christ
Diamonds to Dust, Cultist, Fit for a King, August Burns Red?
I was gonna mention ffak and abr
Hell yeah
But I thought I’d go more niche
But hell yes brothers you know the true Christian shit
You do? I just have artists I know but I’m sadly I haven’t made a collection
I can dm it to you if you want
YESSIR
Thoughts on this riff?
Lil sometin
i got really close to the kl suffocate tone with an eq and an overdrive
do they really not use a lot of gain
on the clean channel of my orange
I'm quite happy with it, I use it as a pre and cab lol amp and eq with plugins in reaper
Neck Pickup: Fishman Fluence Modern Humbucker Alnico
Bridge Pickup: Fishman Fluence Modern Humbucker Ceramic
Emg 808
My goodness, that's so cool. I really want some freakishly long scale guitar like that
30" goes so hard
my small fingers would never
I'd probably have issues playing it too but idc, it's just too metal
Hey, I have a fender guitar and I do the drop C tuning and it didn’t sound like the one that I know in metal, can you explain me, and what strings should I need?
its probably because you have a single coil in the bridge and not the right strings. for drop C i recommend 10-52 and having a humbucker for a bridge pickup
Also you will never sound exactly the same as your 'heroes' so find your own tone
Rate out of ten
Blooz geetar
Depends.
Are you using normal 9 gauge strings? Single Coils or Humbuckers?
Humbuckers
Are they stock Fender ones (which are admittedly very good) or 3rd party ones?
Their 3
Ooooo what are they?
Those are single coils. Unless they're single coil sized humbuckers.
But those are DEFINITELY single coils.
At least from what I can see.
Could you go into more detail on that one
😭😭😭 gotta start somewhere
Yea but dialing in the tone gonna be a bit hard for a drop tune metal sound.
Ehhhh depends
I did it with a bit of tweaking
It’s all about the gear you got
For single coils it gonna sound thin
Yes true (unless they are high output)
Buuutttt
I was just assuming bsre minimum if he has some mesa amp or something then he can dial something real good
That’s where you use a graphic equalizer pre amp to boost the mid frequencies
Yea prob dial back treble a little because single coil bright af but it's preference I prefer a darker tone. Idk what tone he is trying to go after
That’s what’s so nice tho, they have a bright sound that actually has a lot of bite to it, and they have that nice tin sound in their chugs, it’s just a matter of boosting the proper frequencies to get that fatness
But if he’s going for something darker then a Strat isn’t optimal
The middle and bridge pickups sounds way tooo tubular to be used for and darker rhythm tones
Yea that's why I said preference not sure what he going for. But i like a dark humbucker with a mesa amp to make it sound tight, crunchy, and fat
Hey singles are tight
Wait actually that’s another problem
If you don’t have a noise filter you’re kinda screwed
They tend to give a lot of feedback that needs to be cut out, and if you don’t have a filter to do that you’re kinda screwed
Hey do you know what rail pickups are?
Yea I tried using my fender strat on mesa and it just feedback like crazy. But I'm an ibanez player mainly
Ahhh fair
Single coil sized humbucker. I think
Well like I said it can be dialed out
Kinda
I have one honestly just sound sbetween single and hunbucker. I have on my rg565
Look those up. They have two coils squished into one small one that is meant to fit in Stratocasters, but instead of having individual magnets (because it’s hard to fit enough for a dual coil) there is one rail magnet layer across the bar
Perfect for high gain stuff
And you can drop it in a Strat just fine
Would you mind sending a vid of you playing so we get and idea of what you mean?
^I'm curious too
Also idk if you have your pickups set like this, but you should have it in the bridge position and not the neck if you want a drop c sound
He can a Strat. The guitar itself isn't what's important (unless it's a comfort thing then ya got me there) but it's more what's in it.
If he had a humbucker instead of single coils he'd be halfway there.
Or he can use mini humbuckers like a JB Jr.
Theirs single coil sized humbuckers.
I’d actually like to argue the guitar is actually important
Their design is quite different from other guitar, in that there is a huge cavity cut out bellow the pickups which is covered by a pick guard
Acting almost like a semi hollow body, contributing to a brighter sound
I like no pickguard just aesthetically looks better to me
I'm not gonna be that asshole and say that your way of thinking is wrong. I'm just gonna say I've seen testing to prove otherwise, including my own. But that's just me.
Idk I have the same verdict
I’ve noticed quirks in Stratocasters like extra resonance and brighter sound because of that huge cavity
He could buy rails are just cheaper and more affordable
And aesthetically I like them more
if the strat has the cavity space and he wants a humbucker and doesnt mind having to spend more to also get a new pickguard he can do that. but hot rail is more cost efficient in this case
That’s what I’m saying
You can get cheap arctec rails and that outclass a lot of high end ones
Or are at least on par
Guitar is important but for other things than genre. You can play 'modern' metal perfectly fine with single coils
If Tosin Abasi djents on a split coil setting with an 8 string you can chug on your strat
That’s the point I was making
Although its preferred they be higher output
Kmac 2021 also did a demo vid with single coils
Is the celestion g12m-25 a good speaker?
I haven’t heard of the model but realistically any celestion is very good
I know that slash used them, so, for rock they are defenetly good, but the thing i'm wondering is for metal
Manyyy metal bands use Celestions
OH WAIT
ITS A GREENBACK
you’re set then dude!
Oh great. Wanna use the best of the best for building my amp
Greenbacks are perfect for metal! Just depends on the sound you’re trying to get
I have a prs se just couldn't mesh with it idk why but anything less than 25.5" scale messes me up
And also the string felt weird and pickups need to be changed not a fan of some.
I just finished moving and let me tell you my heart still weeps and I don’t know where I put the screws which makes it weep harder
I'm sure you can find bolts on amazon or somewhere with 1 day delivery. Or even at a hardware store nearby if you know the size
chat
rate my bass
and my guitar too ig
you can see my reflection in the guitar
My Bass and Guitar
try neck pickup, fuck around with amp eq until u find something u like
strings matter a little, i used beefy slinkies, but you dont need to
ive gotten workable drop c tones with standard strings
i love these guitars for doing super high gain stuff
the semi hollow guitars for doom metal >>>
i use it for anything
from jazz to goregring
use it to play classical
my dad has an ibanez artcore semi hollow, beautiful guitar, sometimes i like to borrow it to play the heaviest shit ever
its also good for neoclassical
remember if it has humbuckers it'll make a humbucker sound which sounds like a humbucker
meaning it can be good for metal
i know tonal differences output differences blah blah blah if its a humbucker it can probably chug
holy shit chat is this real
earth shattering information i know
i just realized something
i can crank my tube amp way louder comfortably if im wearing earplugs
it wont damage my hearing and i dont hear my family asking me to turn it down
My ibanez nylon chugs
Anyone got good acoustic recommendations
Thinking on saving up for a acoustic
I need a good one
Preferably acoustic/electric
But a standard acoustic works just as fine
taylor acoustics sound nice
I’ll look into it thanks
Price range?
Like 400 dollars max right now at least
At most i just want a decent one
In like the 300-600 price range
I also have played for 4 years and haven’t made a song
:D.

Never have I heard someone say to me that pickups don’t matter. It’s literally what makes the guitar sound unique
You must be new
New to the server or new to guitars
i think i understand the debate much better now
so they dont make much of an objective tone difference, and you have to train your ear to pick up the differences
and while for most people it doesnt matter
you as the player hear the changes and that affects how you play
and then how u play affects tone
