#Guitars & Bass

if only i could afford a schecter 7 string :(
i have just a jackson dinky
works fine
i think knocked loose used it for laugh tracks
i got hella lucky with mine, got mine for like 400 Canadian (half price) bc i was orginally gonna buy an omen but the store i was buying from acidently had the omens in stock online when they had none so the owner said ill give you the demon for the omen price
seeing them in june too
thats cool
yeah honestly became my fav shop after that
oh cool
One guitar I want is synster gates shecter
i have it it plays like a dream
Awesome
smoothest guitar i have ever played and all my guitars after the specs have been based around that bc how comfortable it is to me
I also want a zacky vengeance guitar
the schecter i have i got at a pawn shop
for like 150
but it was in shitty shape
i mean
the pawn shops here try and rip me off
totally rusted out
i had to soak all the parts including bridge in vinegar
scrub that all off
then repaint
sounds like my first guitar
my first guitar was a squire
im gonna work on upgrading that sometime soon
right now my collection is getting ridiculous
My first guitar was also a squire
an old epiphone LP that was dirt af, i wanna fix it up bc it nolonger plays
yours and mine both doesnt help i also picked up bass
I still have my first guitar
mines sitting in a corner next to me but the pickups are shot to hell
neck doesnt even work anymore and the bridge just idk how to explain it other than way too crunchy
um
i have a guitar question ig
for the veterans here
i’ve been trying to work on my bends, & pretty much all tutorials online mention bending w/ ur wrist; not ur fingers.
bt i just can’t get it to feel natural
or bend more than 1/2 a step
how did u guys master it?
Something I do to practice bends is to start with the low E string usually around the 5th fret pick a scale start on the first note, then play the 2nd note, go back to the first note and bend to the second one. Then repeat 2nd to 3rd then 3rd to fourth and do this with all the strings, and you can start it at any fret just 5-7 fret I tend to find is a good starting place.
As to the technique, lots of practice figuring out what feels good yet is still effective
I think I have found my next purchase

Ooh pretty
sexy guitar
needs more strings though
My personal limit is 8
i was joking, although probably the metal elitist bible yeah
The Elitist commandments
for satire we need to convince the admin of this server to post the metal commandments
willing to collaborate with someone to write them out
I beg to differ, I´d bet the Elitist Commandments deem everything over 6 strings to be new age poser shit that´s "not real metal"
Obviously
Ahh what else
thats modern metal elitist then
The only real genres are the ones that are unintelligible and poorly mixed? How about that
I want to say something but I think some people wont like my take on it lmao
that´s a good one
I’m all ears
This is all for fun anyway
Poser shit when you actually know how to scream and utilize screaming techniques instead of doing the half assed raspy voice screaming that pretty much all the boomer metal bands use
looking at you Metallica
There you go there’s another commandment
That´s 5
need 5 more, then we can go scribble them on a stone tablet on some mountain
nvm, it´s 4, I cant count
If you wear any other color than black you're a poser could be another one
9 string sucks to play besides for like the of chance you do something really pretty
Pro sample
just become abassi
I play AAL type stuff...
Just 9 strings not a big point
Jazz stuff I mainly find
Also people who have to listen the whole day to other people not even really knowing how to play a 6 string but than play a poorly dialed in 8 string, sounding like ass...
Do it in your bedroom and dont leave it with that thing please
Its indecent exposure at this point
Is this good for a first 8 string
Seems like you already have it
Why? You gonna return it if it is?
Tbh probably not I payed hella for shipping
always do research before buying a guitar
It won't be a hapas 8 string we have. So at least get it setup properly by a seasoned tech
As said, get a good setup done still won't be all to great but will be a lot better then how it is.
Ik that there are a lot of tone questions, but I really wanna know how I can get that crunchy guitar intro tone of bonebreaker (fortin nameless)
Like just in general how to make the tone more crunchy
Looks good to me, idk as long as you like it
What’s your effects setup?
I might have a little bit of advice
It's not the best guitar my local store has one I've played it and it is meh

Well my best advice is to just fiddle with all the knobs until it sounds good to you. I’m not familiar with Fortin, so I apologize for lack of better advice
Ty though, do you maybe have an idea which of the normal eq settings could improve the sound, I’ve been testing out a lot but I just can’t seem to nail it

Any specific band that has a tone similar to what you are trying to achieve something just to get an idea from?
Is this a good bass?
Try it out
Looks good and are good are different...
Well as mentioned for the other guys guitar.
Best to get it professionally setup, so it's in its best shape.
jackson has some great guitars for the prices
it may require some fretwork but other than that it'll play fine
Also forgot to share this, helping with new frets, final step will be done soon.
ive also found with a ton of playing cheaper guitars pots crap out sooner
Electronics in cheap guitars always are bad
yeah i recently got that gio i think you saw, i plugged it in and found out none of the electronics worked
except neck and mid pickups
Tuners, electronics and frets always
bridge H pickup, pots, and jack were all dead
frets surprisingly not too bad
tuners were very bad
they tuned still
but were so loose i was worried about them falling out
My gio needs a new input jack and new tuners honestly new pickups
overall spent about 162, but now its a damn awesome guitar
That's bad bad
id say it compares to my ibanez rg, which was 400
probably better because i put a seymour duncan in it
I like part caster... though when pickups are like $700 CAD it still is not cheap
Nice.
why not go for like a seymour duncan jb
thats good for everything other than super high gain imo
versatile
and cheap but not too cheap
Because BKP is just better and pretty custom designs are just so nice.
Though I would never put those in a gio
That's a lie I would put aftermaths but I can't justify it yet
i never really looked into bkp until now
like at their shop
that is pretty damn cool
but also yeah expensive
But when I'm going for a custom guitar I want all custom as much as I can
the most i ever spent on pickups was for a guitar from a kit, got emgs because i wanted it for ridiculous gain
also note for guitar kits in the future
just buy prefinished
its so much easier
it took wayy too much time for a simple cardinal red
I'm starting to really hate active pickups now that I'm getting more into gear, don't need the compression they give and just don't like how they sound anymore, I used to have to much gain it didn't matter
i can understand thaht
and have similarish feelings
but thats why i figure for higher gain settings if i want it, i have something with hotter pickups
and i have a ton of guitars for other stuff
I can get around them actually for some more stuff like mathrock tones
emgs for mathrock?
And playing styles that are very dynamic but you don't want all those dynamics
No more Fishman
oh yeah
ive heard fishman has totally different technology
i was listening to abassi talk about how the type of compression is different
i think they're printed arent they
thats what sets them apart
unfortunately im too broke for the time being
ill stick with my secondhand guitars which work good enough
if i ever make it as an artist (unlikely) then i can get a higher end guitar
100%
I'm getting two jobs next year so that will be amazing for saving for guitar gear
my school only gives work permits during summer :(
i can try to talk to my school counselor to make an exception but unlikely with the state of my grades rn
I'm not going through my school in that way
wdym
I got a welding COOP but I already know the shop owners and everything and they will most likely take me in after the COOP anyways
I'm just doing the COOP as it's duel credit and the whole year so I am taking less classes
i see
Then I'm getting my volunteer hours done at a music store just doing guitar work so I'll just get 40 hours of practice
thats nice
i wish there was more music stores near here
only a few guitars centers though, each like 20 minutes or more drive from my house
Mine is 50 minute bus ride there which isn't too bad
public transportation here is a joke
you can get from nowhere to nowhere if you're willing to take an hour walk to find where you wanna go
wish it was better
Luckily I live right beside the mall which like 9 busses stop at so I can get anywhere
It was bad but they are putting in more work redoing all the roads and everything
Yes its considered urban
wait i need to write this down before i forget
i need to scrobble millions of playsd by carlwheezer
on last fm
i almost forgot that im taking note here
Though I live like an hour away from the center of the city
Damn where I live is the third most dangerous city out of the main 12 lmao I mean checks out.
What do y’all think about this guitar part? What should I change?
drop it down an octave
Play to a click and do your best to stay in time.
It’s already In drop G#
Ok
Not low enough, go an octave down
I disagree
Good
How about one semitone
Ping
Sorry I was stuck in 2010
Your totally right, the tuning should be -1D not 1G#
My mistake
Yes
I usually draw the line at A0
For guitar
I draw the line at Drop G
We are not the same
Drop C is the heaviest tuning
FIGHT ME
I play mostly E standard lmao or drop D lower≠heavier
Just is lower
Gn
much better
New loathe album ???😁
I’d say yes, it looks like a very good option
Thx, I'm saving up for it rn. Can't wait to own it

Not a fan of Tim Henson and his songwriting, but this is a great solo. Probably the best thing he has ever played in my book lmao
Yeah slaughter to prevail, so literally the tone every modern deathcore band has xD
Ty that might help
Let me know if you need more input into it or if thar helps enough
An answer to that might help too :)
I really appreciate it
What guitar are you using?
Alright, I'm not to familiar with the plugins you are using.
I mean a general good starting place is plenty of gain but you will want a good gate all gates are different so find what settings work best. For EQ I tend to like a low cut and always 4k getting removed as it's where a lot of the annoyance comes from.
I could send you Andrew's vidoe on 8 string tone it will be different and it's done on the QC though you can probably apply most of it to your application
Ty :) yeah send the video pls

No worries, again update me if you get something done if not maybe when I am actually home and have everything I can be more use.
I will
I'm having a bit of an issue. I want to put new pickups into my bass, was thinking Fishman Soapbars. But my bass came with a 3-band eq, whil the fishmans only have 2-band. Should I try to find different pickups, or should I go through with it? And what would I do with the extra knob if I do go through with it?

Could turn it into a kill switch type thing, I would look for a different set of pickups but if that is really what you want.
I mean I would probably just replace the electronics for like an arcade button.
I'd just replace it for something fun, I don't do bass much yet
I just spent $40 on six three-inch patch cables 🫡
@scenic dune I'm crying in cheap
fortin nameless x and soldano slo-100 x
nameless makes sense it was like their first plug-in

Theory
Add the aug to the C major
Wait where I am not in music land in my head right now, is that not already augmented the C+
Youre right sorry!
No worries haha
Camt be a standard major triad
I know. But theory sometimes goes over my head.
Especially when it comes to reading it.
It is not basic
I mean to me it is somewhat basic but to someone new to theory that's very hard, not to mention he drilled me on the intervals of all the chords and how many semitones from the root to each note in the chords and all of that but it's good to know.
I see
New 7 string
Looks familiar
Chunks of wood with metal wires amirite?
Fiddles
Because it’s the same one
Mine has zero problems so I guess I got lucky
Have you got the frets looked at?
No sharp frets
Mine didn't get any either... They aren't level is what im saying.
Pretty
There level and I have no Frett buzz aside from the low a string
But I put a 60 on it so
Do you have a proper fret rocker to check if they are level?
I spend a lot of time in construction I can tell when something is not level

the crappy pots will go eventually especially if you are using the volume pot a lot.
Mine just started spinning
Tighten all the screws on all the tuners don't over do it their are plenty of things in there you don't want stripped but all of mine where lose just needed a quick tighten up.
Fair
But for now the guitar is perfect
Not as good as my Schecter but big price difference
I can't remember the name of the part woke up like 5 minutes ago but in the tuners it's like a plastic gasket and you can just destroy it if you tighten to much.
O ring ya
They do that a lot
Yep
Most things that use o rings normal come with extras but guitars don’t
I wish guitars came with just abunch of extra strings instead, big design fail.
Like sharks teeth but with guitar strings
Never have to replace them
Sharks teeth get replaced alot... Though yes I get your point on unlimited.
Humans need to be able to do that
That would leave a lot of string businesses bankrupt
Yes it would
Everything needs work so will take it all into the shop soon and fix it all up but here is what I got
Y'all, what tuning is the bass in FFAK's Keeping Secrets? I have been looking to learn it, but 1) I am only finding guitar covers of it and 2) the tuning is absurdly low (like, drop E, but the low E is one octave lower than the regular 4-string E)
Have you tried figuring it out by recording the note and playing on the fret board till you find the same note (maybe diffrent octave) but you usally can find notes like that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_btGozlF9U
how do they get the scraping guitar sound that goes on for about 30 seconds at the beginning

i saw that, and tried it, it sounds nowhere close
theres gotta be some technique
Called having specific guitar that has a specific length of string behind the headstock as well as good mixing and a good starting tone...
String gauge changes that tone, the length of the string...
spent forever trying to find a virtual bass, find out the lowest the low string can go is a0 :(
i need g
maybe a regular bass with a pitch shifter
or octaver
whatver
I find it funny I have a guitar with an A0 😆
That's a gorgeous case on the left there

i wonder if I can buy a 7 string bass
does a bass still work with a pitch shifter
what's the lowest frequency the human ear can detect
do you think you need to detect a note for it to still be felt
20hz
No
thank you for answering my shower thoughts
Plenty of instruments go below 20hz and it's just a physical rumble
I mean I getting one...
is it added high or low string
Higher
oh
You can go lower
anyways m considering spendig my remaining money on this 6 string bass, but first i need to know
is bass difficult to learn
I've tried pitch shifting my 7 string to track bass, hasn't worked
It's like guitar, super hard if you learn hard things easy if you don't
Two handed tapping on bass is much harder then guitar
Just picked up the guitar I’ve been saving up for
Nice choice
Enjoy
why is it 32 bucks for extended range bass strings
that's 1/3 the cost of the 6 string bass
lol for some of my extended range friends they have to order custom strings and it's 10 bucks per string
well fortunately 6 strings is a little more common
so it's *only * 30 bucks
im seriously considering this bass, I need a bass anyways for recording, and this one can meme bc 6 strings
at this point only issue is strings
idk how long stock will last
maybe I can just boil them once they get dirty, reuse the same set forever
This will fall apart
If you do get it let us know how it plays lmao
Ya...
Do you tune a 6 string bass same as a standard guitar?
No
Or would you tune it to F# B E A D G?
All 4ths... it just adds a higher string to a 5 string bass
Then 7 adds another higher string to a 6 string
Interesting
I have my bass currently tuned to B E A D
I wanna get a 5 string at some point
4ths
Hmmm
I'd really have to get used to that
It's fun for diminished runs and stuff of the sort
hmmm
i been looking at other guitars in the $900-$1500 price range
and the jackson misha mansoor or PRS mark holcomb sig are both pretty convincing imo
I know someone who got the prs half off perfect condition just had a broken nut
It's a nice guitar
but also, if i got the misha i heard the QC is pretty poor for a $1200 g'tar
and the misha doesn't come with misha bare knuckles for some bizarre reason
the guitar is called juggernaut, the bare knuckle pickups are called juggernaut, the guitar comes with jackson pickups
the 2500 EUR nolly sig guitar comes with nolly sig bear canuckles so what the hell
maybe I will just to see how it works for a hundred bucks
it's be even better if that was Canadian
unfortunately usd
Hey if it functions well I might consider getting one and putting some decent pickups in it or something
It's not like I'm gonna be playing it live
Congrats! That is a seriously comfy guitar so a great pick! The Platinum series rocks.
Its not the US Misha Mansoor signature which does have them
And you wouldnt even need locking tuners for the Holcomb one. Its perfectly stable
I didn’t really have much time but over the past few days I managed to get a somehow decent tone :)
Great
the $5000 one?
i'd fuckin hope it does, but if i could afford it i'd buy the nolly guitar that has the nolly sig pickups that costs somewhere in the ballpark of $4400 CAD
I'm getting nolly BKP for my guitar I'm saving for
You can, just don't
Ouch
Like yes you can get one though there are like 3 applications where it works Jazz, very complex and hard to play metal, or to sound like crap
the polymath pickups look dope
if i end up getting the mark holcomb guitar and for some reason don't like the deymour suncans then i might have to
They are fully customizable... I'm going to try to get a fully customizable engraving
ye but if i want the polymath covers
which is the dope looking part
i need to get the polymath pickups
they also have the uncovered pickups with the design etched onto the actual thing which looks
Yep
like look at these bad bois
so it's unfortunate that the nolly oryx guitar only comes with stock cream polymath pickups and you can't buy the covers seperately
Though you probably could pay to get the polymath engraving onto other pickups unless there is some legal thing they have
basically it's a conundrum
that i don't have to worry about
because the guitar is 2,999 EUR
so im never getting it
Save enough you will
Put a dollar away a day and you will get it in 12 years let's just add some inflation 15 years.
13 dollars a day you'd get it in a year
first step is getting a stable job
the job i work pays me about enough to get food every week
My g string broke. I can’t tune it because not matter how I tighten the nut for the tuner it still won’t tune
Time to put on new strings
I put a new string it still happens
Oh?
Get a new tuner if the tuner broke
Idk if it’s broken. I blame Jackson for it
Send pictures of the headstock and tuners
@lethal fractal
Looks like it works, that's a bit strange
i am gonna tell my friend about it maybe he can hook me up with better tuners
Good idea
You can ask bareknuckles to make them for ya
no but like
so the guitar comes with the pickups already
just, without the etched cover you can order them in off the website
but you can't order that etched cover on it's own
Obviously
so it looks like this
which i dig
but in this image he's literally holding the same guitar but with these
which i dig significantly more
Manson does custom guitars, just shoot him a message if he could do those covered versions instead of the regular cream bobbins
oh?
He's a custom guitar builder, always has been
Literally makes all of Matt Bellamy his guitars
I still think these bodies look like the back of a GPU
New eclipses
The big bro to my really weird Ibanez
What is the acceptable scale length for double drop D# and drop F#?
I'm thinking of buying a 7 string to play mostly vildharja and HLB riffs (I know you can play HLB on a 6 string) and idk where to look for a guitar
String gauges also play a big role into this
I've been thinking about the Ibanez RGD7521PB-DSF but it has only 26,5 of scale length
I'm thinking of using the strings for an 8 string

Idk I still haven't checked the gauges
Both of these even for D#1 on a 26.5 inch is very loose I wouldn't do anything under a 28 inch scale for those tunings
Ormsby guitars has some multiscales
I don't like their guitars but they are an option.
I can take a look in a bit
Discontinued I mean
There is an RGRTBB21 from ibanez
Wait no
Wrong thing
Ya for some reason long scale 7 strings are harder to find 6 string baritone are easy
Gear4music seems like a scam idk why
An 8 string for 200€
It's either crap or a crazy sale
But I've seen some gear4music reviews and they aren't that good
Especially the pick ups
Never heard of them
my jaguar is my favorite guitar to use. i mostly like use it from Skramz or grunge stuff
I just think they look so goofy, I haven't played them much like twice though I have enjoyed them
The whammy system always hurts my brain haha
Always gives me anxiety
i never use the whammy system. i hate them
A friend of mine put out a little video that might be of interest to you gigging musicians https://youtu.be/XiNY_Y0f51g?si=yi73-hyW1KyBr93t
Figuring out how to shrink down our GIANT god rack was quite the task, but our friends at Sweetwater came to the rescue with products from some of the best brands out there! Cool will check this out
Why is this such a bad take?
It's the tim henson server
I mean
Nothing against it but

Amp wall rearranged
Nom nom
Dude, even Tim said that it was a sexy fucking guitar
But why is that such an L take
It’s literally just the two of us agreeing on that shit
That ENGL is a fucking Chugg machine
All 4 of them
Damn
One of them is a 1 of 15
I’m surprised I don’t see a old Mesa boogie up there
Do you play professionally or some shit?
Because we do only brand new
I work at that store

I was waiting for you to say you had 20,000 album sales in the past hour
I know a few guys with a room like that, one of which I'm supplying amps to
My local guitar store only has like cheap Squier affinity models and then $2000 guitars
We start at 1000€
OK now that is a fucking sexy guitar
This 8 string was made for us in a special exclusive run
I’m waiting for the 20,000 USD price tag
It's 3899
We do have something on the way that's above that
€22899
The only way you could make that cost more is if the inlay dots were real gold
Oh there are plenty of ways
We had one guitar that was more than that esp exhibition model
OK that’s actually insane
€50000,-
What insane man bought that?
Collector
And where is his house?
That's classified
I’m about to go door-to-door through every house in Europe
I personally really like it, the colors match the build
I’m just gonna swim there from the US
Finally, someone else
He's not in Europe
There’s only 7 billion homes on this planet. I think I can get that done.
I prefer the blue one tho
They're alright tbh
But it still looks good
Not that special compared to other AZ's
All AZ's look amazing imo
Come on with the pick ups and the inlay just make it perfect for the artist tho
For him yeah, but that's why it's a signature guitar. It's a guitar catered to him, not me
My needs in guitar are different thus I think it's an okay level guitar. We've also had to send back half of the ones we ever got
Fair point
Yeah, at the beginning, the quality control issues were pretty big but the customer support took care of all of it for me
I'm talking from a dealer perspective, not consumer
I know
I’m hoping he finally releases his 10 string model
And that was an 8 iirc
I have tabs for a few songs that he did with a 10 string that’s why I assumed
I’ve been playing for a few years and I’m gonna have to wait a few more to be able to use the tabs
Just start with them already
Take it slow and work in the muscle memory
That's how I learned some necrophagist songs
I’ve been trying to play OD since 2021 and I am still yet to finish working through it
there is an annoying amount of sweeping in that song

Dude, the main riff is sweeping and tapping
Save that shit for the fucking solo
I can play tornado of souls easily, but not that shit
within the first three months of playing I was trying to sweep that song
It actually sounds better when I play it legato
Wait till you try necrophagist and archspire
Give me one second I’m gonna Google the tabs

Try stabwound - necrophagist
This is the first thing that popped up
Like metal shit I can do but this is still a little bit out of my range because the solo is insane
Ignominious and pale was the song
Just take a gander at stabwound and fermented offal discharge
Yes, I can at least play the main riffs of those just because in my practice routine there’s a solo Jason Richardson did
Also the tab is slower than the song
Not half but it's still sounding slower than the actual song
It's like a few bpm slower
Like the fastest I can alternate pick is borderline 500 BPM but I can’t do it for longer than like a minute or else my hand hates me
4th notes or 8th notes?
I can manage 4th notes but 8th notes is where I feel burning in my entire arm
I need to start learning more songs like Altitudes by Jason Becker and shit
Kind of jazz inspired, but also shredy as fuck
I just got a guitar that got put through a housefire

I’m 20 but I swear to God I sound like I’m 14 whenever I’m not trying to cover a Lorna Shore song
I took a good bit of the hardware out of a Kramer SM1 and I’m gonna replace it with that
I’m gonna make it a fixed bridge and where the trem used to go I’m just gonna add a built-in pedal + pre amp
After I build it out, I might give it to NiK as a gift but I’m definitely slapping my logo on that fucking headstock
Not this thing
Yes
whys it look like my grandmas hand soap
Why does your soap look like that????
Why it look like that
the actual reason is cause my aunt buys these wacky ass fancy soaps from toronto and brings em up every time she visits ol gran gran
so im tryna wash my hands and the soap bars look like that and im like right so do i bite it first or what
Lmfao
Theres no way that collector is gonna play that thing
I mean I believe guitars have to be played, but this guy has fuck you money so I'm not questioning it
this is a fucking ahamkara skull from destiny
Oh I believe it lol! If you got the money why bother asking. “Holy shit! You want this guitar to be whaaaaaat??!?!? Do you have any idea how much— gets handed 50k …I’ll have it ready next Tuesday!”
Must be nice to have money to piss away
…idk I keep telling myself one day that’ll be me
i mean he's buying a wish dragon guitar he definitely used that ahamkara power for some nefarious things, o reader mine
just be careful if he goes for the oryx guitar next we don't need the taken to be the first destiny faction we have to fight irl

SHOP JACKSON: https://www.jacksonguitars.com/en-US/guitars/
About Jackson:
Jackson began back in the late 1970s, when heavy music experienced a flamboyant and virtuosic resurgence in popularity and a small Southern California guitar repair shop became the epicenter...
i saw this as well, but i think i'm still more convinced with mark's PRS
when it comes to the 1000 - 1500 range at least
Why you more convinced with Mark's PRS? O.o
I like how PRS looks and that's about it lol
costs about $200 extra (CAD), looks cooler (yeah i fuckin said it), comes with the seymour duncans, the reviews i saw on the jackson SE HT7 mentioned some QC issues like glue coming off on the nut and such which is
not ideal
so i'm willing to save for the $1400 one that comes with the artist's sig pickups and also looks better than the neon orange or the mostly hideous burl
i mean the real goal would still be the manson oryx 7 in nolly greem but when it comes to like $1000-$1500 daily driver y'know
Mayones
do they even got those at L&M tho
No
You just order
That Jackson is ugly
the jackson is the misha one in question
but i can get both of those from L&M
which also influences my biases
If the Jackson didn't have the black finish I probably would go for it, I mean I still would just due to me not liking how prs feels
Well I would not probably
😦
They guud
I'm gonna replace my Deathbuckers with the Cold Sweats.
In my Strat.
The only bad thing about em is that they're G-Spaced not F-Spaced.
But as far as I'm aware, it doesn't make a difference.
Correct
It's mainly a symmetry thing for looks
F-spaced makes no difference to regular
Is a 27 inch scale 7 string good enough for F# standard?
With the right strings yes
For the low F# I'd use a 85 gauge string
I was thinking of using some 8 string strings
Damn what strings are yall using...
I use baritone on my guitar tuned to drop C
Try to get 85s or 90s
105s-9
Yeah, that's what I'm aiming for
Good enjoy
Depends on the tuning
That's a little much for F#
On a 27 inch?
Yes
He said he's going for an 8 string set... which 85s I would use, but they sometimes only come in 90s
The tuner for a 7 isn't built for those strings so you're compromising the strength of that as well
An 8 string eb is up to 74
What tuning
Standard
Try 9-46 next
Why?
I use 90s for a low e on a 28 inch it's about 21lbs of tension so for a 27 inch f# 85 Guage is 21.6 lbs
90s???
Do you want shoe strings as strings that low
For my 9th string I play around with 100s-115
That's a lot, standard tension is like 15lbs for a string maybe a bit more
Bruuh these are so thick
Uhh
Really?
I can't play 15lbs for my lower strings to floppy
My most used tunings are
Usually new strings for each tuning... (generally in a perfect world)
Standard, drop C, drop A, drop A# and drop G
.
Yes
Drop C: 10-52, drop a/a#: 12-56, drop G, 13-58
E standard 9-46
I can't even play 18lbs is the least tension I'll play for my lower strings... higher strings ya it's fine 15-18 not for my thick strings
Okay
The difference between tunings is too big to have one single set for it
Really?
Yes
Absolutely
The other talk going on string tension
You're going about 7 semitones at max
Couldnt i use it for standard?
Neck might fly off (joke)
You could but you would run into issues.
You're throwing the tension of the neck off by a lot
What issues?
Neck twisting
12-56
Still too thick?
No, the 12-56 is the right gauge for drop a 6 string
But it doesnt work for other tunings?
Maybe a step lower at most
Wait how does lee malia use 80 gauge low string for c standard then?
It seems insane
Also for my high e string on my 28 inch scale I have a 9 and it's 17.5 lbs which to me feels a bit to tight... Though for my low E I'd used a 85 which is 18.4 and it felt way to loose.
Then for my low C# it's was a 90 Guage which is 15lbs but that's so floppy to me.
85 for a low e string?
On an 8 string
Ooh
do you guys know whether removing a plastic pickup cover will affect sound in any way, i know metal covers roll off the high end, but what about plastic, do they do anything at all?
i cant find much online for plastic emg style covers
Won't really do much definitely won't be noticeable at high gain playing if you are running super super clean and being very specific with your tone then yes it is a change but not to the degree that it matters
Can someone help me find a replacement bridge for my ibanez GRG7221 7 string? I haven't been able to play for awhile because the saddles(?) have really bad screws and I can't fix them
One of the screws got stuck is what I'm trying to say
Does it matter what bridge I get?
I don't wanna accidentally screw into something in my guitar and potentially damage something
Not another Gio :\
The bridge they use is the F107 bridge you can look online to order a replacement then bring it to a local Luther to replace it.
As well if you can send an image of the bridge, I may be able to tell of you just need a new saddle or even just new screws if so local shops usually have extras just laying around
Okay
Don't judge I've had this since 2017
I own one as well...
Imma send pics in a bit cuz I'm eating rn
Ah okay
No worries
You got any experience electronics and that sort of work?
Barely, so imma have it taken in and have them work on it
I don't trust myself not to fuck something up
I'm gonna have to learn eventually, because I wanna build a gaming pc as well
Here’s one of my grandpas old guitars, it’s an antique 1975 Electra (it still needs some slight repairs like the pickups and the pickup guards need replacing but about it
Building a PC is pretty easy lots of good vidoes online :)
If you have questions about either PC or Guitar Building feel free to DM me I have built plenty of PCs and do a lot of guitar work.
I want
That's pretty
Hardest part is cable management from what I've seen
Real
A lot of cases nowadays have built in slots for all your cables
Luckily I found a guy in my area who builds and fixes guitars and stuff like that, he even has his own outdoor studio shed so hopefully he can be able to get replacements for the pickups
Also a vintage peavy guitar amp (unfortunately I don’t know the exact year it was released) 😔
Check the serial number?
I have a music store in town that can do that stuff
I'm definitely gonna take it in
Idk who scratched all that other stuff out but at least the serial number is still visible
Nixe
Ya who knows
Fr
I'll look it up
Or 1980 if the number before the A is a 0 and not a 6
Well on the bright side at least I know it was at some point during the 80s
It's a 6 looked closer... 1986 is when that was made
And yes good to know
Aight, thanks homie
No worries
I’m just terrible at reading serial numbers lmao
That's okay
hey can someone record a sleep token style riff for me? at 164 bpm the key doesnt matter to me i just got a cool vocal melody (which i will record after i have more of the instrumental version made) and some drums i made and i wanna make a sleep token style track
How much you willing to pay
Shiiiii I didn't think about that
I don't have money so I'll have to see if I can someone to do it for free
Good luck, I bet you can find someone who will do it for free but again Goodluck
There was a dude here in this server that recorded a riff for me once, but I forgot his username
This is cursed
Here's the drum loop btw
Probably be best to post it as a wav file usually what Daws prefer mp3 is good for the final thing.
Nice
i bet
Ahhhhh it's him

I'd be willing to do it at some point, but I've got a lot of projects I'm working on rn
@wind mauve

i know.
thanks tho
sorry to clarify just in case,
that is the dude who uploaded the tracks
I suck ass at writing but just for fun I'd try to come up with something - question is what kind of Sleep Token riff you mean, they've got some different styles
Does anyone know how to achieve an Everchanger type tone in nolly?
Like their kinda heavy but simple riffs, like in chokehold and the summoning
Once I'm free I'd probably be able to try and build a similar tone.
How many strings you playing?
I'm on 7
It is tuned to f# right now but I think everchanger is mostly in G#
drop^
Alright and what pickups are you using?
Its the standards in the ibanez ms7, Array passive or something
Alright cool
thanks in advance man
what kind of amp do they use
The one in nolly? the third from the left or whatever
dont know which amp its supposed to be
Amp 1 is a Bogner Shiva clean channel. Amp 2 is a 2203 Marshall JCM800. Amp 3 is a block-letter Peavey 5150
ah right peavey 5150 then @wind mauve
But i mean id use whichever of them that fits the tone the most
If he doesn't get to it first I'd probably end up modeling it Marshall as it's more suited for this... in my opinion
nah you're good i should've been more clear
yeah so what amps do the band use cause that'll help get the bulk of your tone
I'll look
But not so much if you are just modeling in nolly it just comes down to working in a similar tone
the realistic answer for nolly is using amp/cab 3 with both overdrive pedals
I think keaton has said that atleast heavener was tracked with nolly
Keaton Goldwire only really has stuff about his guitar
but i mean isnt the 5150 pretty common in metalcore
That's the last thing I'd try doing 😅
Although will find out when I get into it and try to work it out.
Yes
so high chance they used it
yes thats why theres like four nDSPs that model it
including nolly
yeah
Though all the amps are modeled by nolly and are tweaked to that person and as he's even mentioned he kinda did some funky stuff with that smp
I tried to find information about the tone but its impossible
Amp
lowkey i'd be so down with an archetype periphery that models a peavey
I feel like the tone is pretty like stripped back in a sense
not very much OD maybe
ye probably
Marshall's are also commonly used and the Marshall in nolly is the better for a more dirt sound where the 5150 they have is better for a crunch tone.
right
there's also the lead amp
amp 4
which i think is supposed to be a victory kraken-ish
conic doesnt like the victory
But to my ears amp 2 sounds more crunchy
i've gotten some nifty tones out of it
thats fine
I'm thinking we are talking about the 4th amp already but kinda just forgot about the crunch amp and have been thinking there is 3 amps and was so confused
So which one is the marshall?
The 2nd one... ya no the 5150 is the right one, it's the lead amp that is goofy
The Marshall is also pretty modified
alright
Anyways if you don't get a tone by time I'm free let me know
the lead amp is fine but also the only time i’d use the cab switching tool
because it sounds better with cab 3
Yeah i will probably not since im pretty new to the amp sim
bought it like 5 days ago
i admit i have no idea what the song/band/etc you’re tryna get is
Sounds good, it's the one I know the best lol.
Yet my brain is still waking up.
Invent animate
Invent animate everchanger
yeah that’s not something i’ve listened to
I don't listen to much metalcore anymore but I used to a lot
you listen to like death metal?
Prog and very technical death metal
Ya that's fair, I'm learning all of archspire on bass and guitar maybe not some of the older stuff for bass but definitely guitar.
awesome man I'm learning the cloud cascade breakdown riff right now. I can play it almost 90% speed
its easier than i thought
Starting slow is always the best way
definetly
death metal, deathcore, metalcore but like the actual hardcore metal one, mathcore, some progressive metal
nice man
Im not really into old metalcore, more like the modern stuff
IA ERRA and stuff
Both are have good and bad bands
prog?
they're progressive metalcore
some would call that djent
but they made a whole album about that
I have a Playlist with near 10,000 songs so I listen to a very wide verity of music and still am very in depth in the punk scene just only for live music to boring to listen to
damnnn'
but yeah for the tone you want you could also check the interwebs and see if anyone has made a preset for nolly for the tone you want
have you guys heard of Holy Fawn?
Yeah i have cant find anything
I've looked around there is jack

yeah its weird that nolly comes with like 0 presets as well
most nDSP have artist presets
so if nolly actually came with any it might've had one from this band
i thought they were pretty popular i do see people in here talk about them a lot
that's pretty good for metal
i guess
@lethal fractal just let me know when youre free. Im going to study some math for a while sadly
just ping me here
Probably tomorrow
Great man thanks
When is tomorrow for you anyway haha
No worries love trying to help.
In 14 and a half hours... that's when tomorrow starts although it would be some time after school for me.
great
aight. lemme see if I can come up with smth
Just for everyone what tuning are you playing in, so they know what to play in... or do you want them just writing a riff not playing one?
Fuck I realize I neva thought of a lot of stuff
I don't have a guitar or anything
And I don't play
Ah
I´d just go with Drop D#, that´s what Chokehold and The Summoning are in I think. In any case, I dont think it matters much as long as it´s low and got the right tonality to it
or just got Vore which is Double Drop B afaik
Or Drop B0, depending on what you prefer calling it
I ment to say key signature 😅
oh, alright. In that case: fuck if I know, I´ve got no clue lmao
Haha ya, pretty important when it comes to writing
Double pinging as I noticed I asked the wrong questions. Do you know what tuning you want it to be in?
It’s never too late to start
Drop D# sounds good
I'm a broke 15 yr old, I would love to start guitar but don't have the money to get a guitar or amp
Fuck me I said the same thing twice I'm to tired to be asking questions
