Each to their own. I wouldnt recommend it.
After the right setup it could work very well
Have you ever experimented with this stuff to a degree that you can confidently say it would or wouldn't work. Without going into just the physics.
Yes, thats why I wouldnt downtune my standard 7 string under drop A and for lower tunings I only use multiscale
Its becomes a pain to keep the intonation right
I used to work in a small instrument shop and did set ups all the time so I do know very well how to set my instruments
We try our best to keep everything we have setup
And Ive also played in plenty of bands and you try either mixing or playing live with it and I can tell it sounds like shit
Don't think that ffaa or taim are that bad sounding for their low tunings
I think they use a 26.5 or something scale length on a 7 string.
But like I said..whatever floats your boat. I wouldnt recommend pumping strings above 0.6 on a 6 string and tune lower than drop A
You make life unnecesary hard. Theres a reason theres specific guitars built for that tonal region
Time uses 25.5
I got another live video of the band
Flower Taped To Pens live show.
Flowers Taped To Pens is a noisy twinkly screamo band playing and recording songs in a garage in San Diego, started in 2013. FTTP plays a lo-fi brand of Screamo with a prominent emo sound in terms of instrumentals that ranges from dreamy to ...
Thanks for the suggestion, I guess would need a baritone for that
Its just an example, a longer scale 7 string guitar is perfectly fine as well
got this for my bday today so i can actually have a look in this channel for once lmao
Have fun
BASSSS
I love bass
My only problem is money, I wish I had the cash to afford a baritone six string
Get the baritone slinkies
Oh, I’ve never seen those
Or I might have seen some but I just didn’t notice at the time
Finally taking my 6 string in to get repaired been a while since I've been able to play it
Bro I need to get all of my guitars fixed and refinished cuz they really need more care than I thought
The two trust rods in my one neck are a pain to setup.
The bridge is completely broken on one of them (my first guitar I ever bought) where you can’t even adjust it properly, and one of my other ones which unfortunately has a Floyd rose bridge is SUPER hard to figure out and tune properly
I had that guitar years ago. Had EMG non actives. I loved it
Hi guys
So I’m in the market for a 7 string and I have a budget of 1500 and I was wondering what you guys would recommend for that price range as I am not sure what to go for
I second this! I'm in the same boat, I purchased the JP70 and all the reviews said not to buy it
so I cancelled the order.
I was directed toward The Omen Elite and some Ibanez options.
I watched all the shred collabs and it really seems like it doesnt matter wtf we are playing, guys playing strats to majesty guitars.
I see, the jp70 was on my mind but wasn’t too sure as you said about the reviews, the elites look sick, another option I was thing was the solar a.1.7 vinter pearl white
for 1.5k i got myself a solar S1.7 evertune purple burst but i think it's now 1.6k
For 1500 Id go Ibanez and not look further
yea sadly it's now 1.6k€
seconded
this one
Ive heard good stuff bout Solar tho
and never been more satisfied by a guitar than this one
But not too big of a Schecter guy myself. Theyve had some issues
I like the Solar headstocks a lot
and it plays insanely well too
meanwhile me who's only been lookin at headless guitars
Yeah ive heard its a good company (Solar)
i was looking at i believe it was the reaper 7 from schecter
and was turned off by the significantly shorter scale length and a lot of reviews complaining that it just straight up couldn't be tuned low
it's not even 25.5" iirc
So 24.75?
Lol
"designed for metal"
I mean..
That looks sick and it’s got an evertune that’s awesome
my $300 ibanez 7 is 25.5
Drop B is easily achieveable
Yep I when I get one I’m probably gonna go to drop g#
im on drop g myself
I hardly downtune anymore
probably what i'll stick to honestly
full step under B standard with the B string dropped one
i had issue to tune lower than drop A/G# and keep it stable on a schecter demon 7 with a 74 gauge string with a 26.5" scale length and now with the solar i'm in drop F# with that 74 gauge and it's super stable
if i need to go lower i'll pitch shift
What scale length is the solar
26.5" too
Ah
I’m not much of a schecter guy but I like the look of the Tao 7 although it’s a bit out of my budget I heard pretty good things about it
a short snippet of how the solar sounds like it's not mixed at all btw and it's running through the archetype plini X for the clean and archetype petrucci for the distrotion
and the bass is the new djinnbass 2
personally im still sold on that legator i was looking at but i completely understand why not everyone is
i've tried once a legator but it's been a while i don't really remember how it plays
it was before covid lmao
i said it in the message
😭 just read it, should be paying more attention
I use the Petrucci one too but I run it through ggd zilla cabs
well i disable the distortion pedal on the petrucci and made my own distortion pedal with fabfilter saturn 2
Nice
one of my buddies in college has one he loves the thing
the one i was looking at was their "ghost" 7 string model
the one i tried was a ninja i think
if my memory is not bad it was that one but in a natural finish with a black fade at the bottom like here
and it had a killswitch too
my buddy's one is a ninja but it's one of the budget ones
the ghost is basically the same but it's headless
i was lookin at either the white wood one or the gray gradient one that has the same fretboard wood like this one
Setting up some lights for under my guitars... I got 2 more pucks but need to go grab batteries.
they couldve atleast made it symmetric 😭
I just wandered over to guitar center and they had a demon 7 used for 300$ and I snagged it and will try it for a week
I said screw it, I just need a 7 to play some riffs.
Based
Went right to dream theater, I knew I was bad but not this bad. It’s a crazy new world to explore, I’m 38 so I waited way to fucking long to buy a 7…
I find 7 is a good middle ground 8 string is more specialty then 9 string is for super specific things or just wanting to do dumb stuff I honestly think everyone would benefit from playing a 9 string because 7 and 6 feel super small and makes playing feel much easier.
Have fun with your 7
Thanks!! Been playing about an hour, laughing at myself for not being able to play Babymetal or Dream Theater but JP is the prog god after all so what the fuck did I expect. Im excited regardless and it just brings a smile to my face to be able to hack my way thru Glass Prison.
Nice, I can look to see if I have the 5 scale patterns still written down for 7 string somewhere and share it if I do, if that's something that would be helpful.
Though you may already know all the theory and have figured them out.
Ohh brother, that would be amazing! I'm a much more talented drummer but I can play guitar enough to get myself in some trouble spending $$$ as well as some piano and bass.
Nice
I know some scales and such but really never trained my hand to rip with all 4 fingers so Im doing a bit of grinding on the basics again to build up some dexterity.
Good to hear
The 7 string neck feels rather thick in my hand after playing a strat for 10 years
It really does the first time I picked up one it felt big, now here I am with a 9 string 7 feels tiny
holy shit 9 adds what? 3 more lower strings?
yea
thats insane bro 9 strings lol
Yes to a standard 6
christ that must be a face melter
It's a wrist breaker

For A List Of My Gear & Disc...
i see that you like it thicc
I have 6 (small) binder of guitar practice stuff and theory hopefully I have the page somewhere
I have a tapping run for power rangers... Pretty fun.
Jesus bro its so fucking thicc, watching the video, its friggen nuts!
Haha
It's like a 6 string bass maybe a bit smaller been a bit since I have played one
Is this from the mansion?
Yes
epic
That video
haha hes like "its not in tune what the fuck are you doing!?!"
its like cardboard 😂
the fucking neck could double as a cutting board
yea haha...
I don't have the sheet but when I have the time I will write it back out and send you it
thats huge, no rush and much appreciated.
no worries I have been really busy last little bit so might not be able to get it to you till Friday though will see what I can do
stupid question, do companies like Ibanez and Schecter ect ect change the color schemes of the guitars each year?
Not necessarily but for some guitars they hardly add anything new, slap on a new paintjob and call it a new model
anyone's thoughts on this?
Yeah!
probably cuz of the pickups ig
That guitar is amazing. But don't forget that She's heavy.
Also I don't think we can be friends anymore 🤣
what cos i own a bass lmfao
bruh
the only true bass to own here
What would we consider the difference between a rythm and lead guitar tone, I want to do a little bit of a cleaner crunch tone for some of the tapping rythm parts and I'm not sure if that would world or make sense in a mix.
generally my rhythm tones have more bass and more lower end
and i like my lead tones to have more gain, less bass, and more treble/mids, usually with some reverb
same for me i usually have more bass on the rhythm tone and more trebles/presence on the lead one with reverb and delay and sometimes some chorus too
so theses are my rhythm tone and my lead tone actually my rhythm tone is slightly different when recording since i use fabfilter saturn 2 as a distortion pedal instead of the one in petrucci and here i'm using the standalone plugins so i can't use saturn 2
also for the lead tone i use the plini X
I currently only have nolly so will have to work with that for now.
But cool good to know
speaking of distortion pedals
i am entirely unconvinced by the plini x one
if i got a physical distortion pedal and plugged it in would that work?
if you want a clean DI to work with after the distortion pedal will always be there but if you have a way to get both the clean DI and the distorted DI go for it tbh
my question is
if i buy a distortion pedal, plug my guitar into it and plug into the audio interface
will it work
yes but the DI will not be clean anymore
Good thing I'm only fucking with you 😂
can someone explain to a fool why the frets are like this?
lower notes needs longer strings to get a better tension an clarity as for higher notes they don't need it as much
and it also helps intonation
so this guitar would "sound better" than say the RG550
and it's not primarily for aesthetics
intonation wise
it would be more accurate yes
interesting
espacially if you tune low
i tried 2 multiscale guitars one 6 string with 27.5" and 25.5" scale lengths and one 7 strings with 27" and 25.5" and the more the difference and the less strings you have the harder it is to play
I dont think im good enough to play something like that
I would be curious to play one tho and see if I can personally hear the difference
Fan Fret is the term
Yea what was said... Fanned frets take a little bit of time to get used to though it's still all the same notes.
Everytime I see that guitar I just think of Jibs from Oceans Ate Alaska
I'm excited for the evertunes that support fanned guitars they won't be cheap but I'd like to have one someday
I mentioned before Im really a drummer at heart but can play other instruments well enough to waste my money away. Im also a video game dev working on combat flight simulation content and my team wants me to write a soundtrack for the product so no pressure there. The plane is from Vietnam era so 60's vibe would be my first thought but I cant write 60's style and war seems more metal to me anyway so Im gonna take a stab exploring some metal/prog ideas.
I might have to see if some of you guys that can really shred wanna get paid so rip some solos!!
Yes sir, we are currently developing a plane for DCS World.
That's sounds really fun, being a drummer will be helpful for all your rythms... I love polyrhythmic music and funky rythms.
$49.99 for our F-100 ❤️
I just hope I can come up with some riffs that arent too cringe lol
and I guess everything doesnt need to be played on the 7 string but I def need a few face melting tracks

If you want people to give there thoughts about stuff you write.
Their*
oooo, huge I was just about to ask about getting feedback on ideas!

What tuning did nik use for the newest song? Is it drop a? Or b?
the taylor swift one?
Plini aint a distortion pedal, but a tubescreamer style OD-pedal.
Really depends what I wanna go for. Sometimes its the same with the lead just having some delay, compression and reverb.
Also pick up selection does wonders at times.
at any rate it doesn't seem to sound good to me no matter what i do
the amp itself i managed to get what i think is a solid metal core sound
What are you trying to do with it?
trying to use it to help round out the mid and high end and make it just kind of sound more, well, distorted
It works fine to tighten up some low end on the Plini, but it doesnt do a whole lot more than that.
Like any overdrive pedal I would say.
Well adding distortion to the high end will generally make it fizzy and not so pleasant.
Perhaps fool around with the cab section as well.
the cab section i did actually figure out
and it significantly contributes to the sound
Someone watched the new Jason Richardson video
i just can't get the OD pedal to do it in a meaningful way
i had it even before the video released but i watched it anyway
I want one!!!
Hmm...I dont know what you are trying to do with the OD-pedal. Ive had no issues with any archetype so far. The OD-pedals do what they must.
French?
yes
Jason is so underrated
Pareil
nice
fr
c'est dommage :(
at any rate, like i said i found the actual amp to be pretty good
why?
amp number 3, took a bit off the low and put a bit on the medium and high, put the gain up, bass down just a bit before noon, and high treble/mid
je suis canadien
quebec right? i try to keep speaking english here since not everyone speaks french
oh ok
Does anyone here use guitar pro for writing tabs or things of the sort?
Hehe ya
I don't know how to feel about that apart of me loves it the other half is confused... I bet it plays and sounds great though.
I've noticed I hold my pick way to tight
sick bro!
My dog loves it... I opened up the photo and he stared at it for Luke 3 minutes.
Might learn how to pick with the trailing edge as well.
guys what you think of Kustom ‘72 coupe tube amp
Or what is the the only high gain amp i need
Saw that a week ago or so, made me giggle lol
Thanks bro
Yeah but considering my guitar skills are not that good but I’m at least trying to learn lmao
We are never not learning
Fr
I had somewhere around 6 years of music experience before picking up guitar and I came from Trump which in my opinion to get it sounding good is much harder... So I have been progressing pretty fast but we all can improve
it gets really complicated when your fav bands play such amazingly difficult music
Trying to imitate legends is never easy
I've been slowly grinding away at thr newest archspire record their music sucks to play
I would challenge you to go learn the drums
That’s just me but with trying to learn death songs
The deathphonk one
Hold up, why tf does Kahler make 10 string tremolos?
Cause a 10 string guitar will sound 💩 so might as well slap a useless trem on it
A guy in a server I'm in has a 10 string designed for two handed tapping kinda neat.
Those frets are also interesting

bro put his bass in the washing machine on hot
isn't that one of mark from kardavox academy's old band?
You're french too?

I keep stumbling onto this video and I hate it:

high guitar strings actions definitely needs adjustments. Guitar action is important to get right because it can completely change how a guitar feels to play. If your guitar's action is too high, your fingers need to push the strings down really far before they come into contact with the strings. This can make ...
i'm more worried about that guy's thumb lmao
nevermind fretting notes with his thumb the way he holds it against the neck

yea haha
Right now I have my 7 string tuned to drop Eb and I'm having a lot of fun with it
I'm writing a deathphonk style track
Exciting
New mayones arrivals
Is that a Ryan inspiration on #2
It's the same finish ye, Lava burst but on a burl top this time
And not a core series
Awaiting my Duvell-7 anytime now based on last email
Lark. Local so convenient
Indeed
Got my 2 Qatsis from there
👀👀
Do hit up our store in the states one day as well. We can get ya great deals on our in stocks
We're axe palace
I've definitely hit up the website to peruse a bit

The lava burst does play like a dream ngl
Might mostly be tapped out in my Mayones collection for the next 5 or so years 🤔 if I were to get another guitar it'd probably be a baritone 6 from Balaguer
Like a 28" or 28.5"
Is the schecter demon 7 worth it ? It costs 699€ where I’m from
It would probably do everything you would want it to do, not a huge fan of shecters pickups though I haven't played them all.
Their active PuPs for lower end aren't great but all their other USA pickups are great
Gotten to compare the old BKP TKOs to the Velvetrone that are the new default now?
Velvetrons ye, ours will still have warpigs and other sets we choose
Lava burst has warpigs, quilt v24 has nailbombs
Duvell 7 has painkillers
Alnico or Ceramic Nailbombs?
Also what are your thoughts on the TKOs vs Velvetrone?
Haven't tried velvetrons yet so cannot comment rn
Alnico
Cool
One things for sure, I don't like TKO's at all
Oh thx so what would you recommend in that price range instead ?
I'm a big Ibanez fan all around 5/7 of my guitars are Ibanez guitars... I have an rg7 was my first guitar and I love it.
Though that shecter if you like it get it... I know people who own them and like them.
I also do consider the other 2 guitars to count as one is a classical guitar so that's a specialty and the other is a family guitar before ww1
Thank you for the recommendation, I don’t have any preferences I only care about the quality of the guitar ;)
The shecter would have good quality I gave played plenty shecters and owned 2 I just prefer Ibanez, if you like the shecter get it, it will be good for learning and just playing with friends
Thank you sm, yeah the 6 string I have is a Ibanez too
btw do you know if a string gauge of 0.56 is enough on a 26.5 scale for drop A ?
I'll check what I play on once I'm home I play drop A or Drop G typically... (I'm on my way home now)
Thank you bro ;)
No worries... what gauge, tuning and scale length is your 6 string?
I just want to compare tensions to see if it would feel similar.
I know, I just want to see if the gauge you're asking about would be a similar feel to how your 6 string is setup.
Ah okay

I have a gauge of 9-42 on 25.5 scale
Alright cool, I'll get back to you in couple minutes just got home.
I play the same gauge on a 25.5 inch scale length so you will be able to get it on that 26.5 no problem.
Thank you so much ;) you really helped a lot to get my first7 string
No worries, hope you enjoy once you have gotten one.
I need help nailing down a genere of music to search for for inspiration and new ideas. I found this clip of a chug riff and I personally think its sick. What genera of metal would this fall under what bands can I look for that channel this style?
This is very modern metal in my opinion.
Checkout Keyan Houshmand on YouTube he has a very similar musical style
Gosh it makes me wanna smash something hah

Hey guys!
Here's how I go about writing melodic modern metal riffs on guitar. The players and bands that I look up to the most that play in this sort of style are Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen and Mark Holcomb of Periphery, Tiny Moving Parts, Counterparts, John Browne and Olly Steele of Monuments.

some good starters
amazing, you sir are the man!!
i really hate his no theory way of going around things but its better for most people haha
thats the only thing i dislike
have fun
Keyan has great videos on how to play modern metal.
yep
i just hate the no theory part it makes me just want to listen rather then understand
They're very much rooted in Djent seeing as Misha, Nolly, and Holcomb (can't say Mark cuz that could mean Tremonti lol) are his idols.
Misha is largely self taught as far as I understand.
So it makes sense Keyan doesn't go into too much theory as he is largely a self taught guitarist as well.
yea, as for he says he doesnt know much of it himself
A lot the guitar greats on YouTube (Rabea Massaad, Rob Scallon, Keyan, Ola Englund, Jared Dines, and Nik himself as examples) are very much self taught.
you can be self taught and know all your theory from just studies... It depends what we mean by self taught but ya no some great guitarist and musicans cant even read sheet music
Yeah. There are only a few guitarists on YouTube that I've seen actually be able to read and understand music theory like Rob Chapman, Rick Beato, Tyler Larson, Rudy Ayoub, obviously Ichika, and Pete Cottrell.
There are a lot of them that are good at their theory
Oh yeah I'm sure there's more. I was talking just amongst the more popular ones out there.
ya
I come from and classical and jazz world so theory is in everything... Just what I am used to.
The one YouTube guitarist that I think has probably some of the most creative and interesting sounding stuff I've ever heard that's made a huge impact on me is undoubtedly Rabea.
For more lead stuff I love RichaadEB.
I actually don't think I have ever watched a full Rabea video...
In the cord video I sent I cant follow with it because all the stuff he's saying to a newer person or self taught they would only know how to use those cords in those situations they cant transfer it to strings due to no cord theory or anything.
They work and sound good just only work for the one situation
Ah I see that makes sense. I grew up with a lot of 90s and early 2000s stuff.
I grew up on the same stuff... I still listen to a lot of punk rock and that stuff is so basic but still good. I now like highly technical metal and not a massive prog fan but listen to it and still go to prog shows.
It's funny you mention that, I can't really teach people string stuff either mainly because I learned drums first before guitar, even though I been a guitarist longer, my brain is very much rhythm based so I think like a drummer. I've somewhat made up for that recently by learning some theory but I know very little chord theory.
Like I understand triads, your 1st, 3rd, and 5ths, but when you start adding 7ths or 9ths into the mix it completely starts to lose me.
In total i know how to play 8 instruments though currently only play 5 I love teaching theory as well as the instruments im most proficient in I just like helping out...
my last guitar class we where doing 13 cords...
you just stack 3rds... and you can play with flattening/sharpening those intervals or suspending them...
13 chords are stacked thirds? God damn the stretch on those.
all cords you stack thirds (not all but you get the point)
its funny when you look at a 13 cord you use every note of your typical 7 note scale.
Very awkward trying to record that...
Lol sorry xD
I didnt mean to make you record that lol. But it was very informative! I wonder how that would sound on guitar.
Probably fuckin massive.
We obviously can't really play 8 notes in one cord of the guitar unless we do it as an arpeggio... So you have to omit some notes...
I chose to record it...
Well I thank you for doing it!
This is a G#13
My bad that's an Ab
If you wanted it to be a G cord you could move the shape up a fret and you would get a Gmaj7sus2(#11)
Learning your 7 cord shapes can be helpful if you want to learn them I can send over a page I have that has all the shapes...
I have one of those cardboard things that has a bunch of chords on it. Not sure if it has 13 chords though.
I know my basic chords shapes on guitar. C D E F G A....B I always forget lol.
Gmaj7sus2(#11)? See those long ass name confuse the hell outta me. Once numbers are added to chord names it's like my brain goes "Nani the shit?"
Haha yea fair enough
Here's some basic shapes
can move these wherever
If you have a looper you can play this and solo over it.
Those are basic shapes?!
Ya 😅
Some of them I understand but some of them are like "How does one do that with said fingies?"
Ya'll jazz cats are cracked.
Which ones don't make sense?
To you just generally...?
The cords I can do on my 9 string are funky fingers doing weird stuff on that fret board.
It's not that I can't read them it's more like how can yall make those shapes?
Yea which ones are confusing? I'll send a photo your probably over complicating them.
The top maj7
Both of the top ones actually ^^;
The right minor 7 and the two dominants.
The half diminished ones I can see being played though the right one might be a little tricky.
The bottom maj7 looks like a chord I use all the time. Same with the left minor 7.
anyone have experience with schecter guitars and knows what a good model is for beginners
I have a little bit... It depends on budget and if you want 6 or 7 string and just generally what type of music you want to play.
Hey guys I have a question!?
What is a good guitar for 500-600 that is a bright color brand doesn’t matter they can be used to.Only thing is it has to be good for lots of distortion.
Ibanez or Kramer
Ok alright any specific model or just them
I'd recommend looking on the websites and local stores... For any local stores go and play them.
For any you like online look online for video reviews.
Alright thank you!!Was there a specific model or just the brand in general?
i was looking at the c-6 deluxe and the c-6 elite
looks like the elite is around 60 bucks more and better overall reviews but idk if its really that worth
Kramer has some cheaper guitars with some vibrant colours to them, don't get one with a whammy they tend to not stay in tune. When diving and what not.
I just like Ibanez a lot they don't have that many super colorful guitars but nice guitars that get the job done and you could find a colorful one if you look.
I have no specific model I'd recommend just looking into them and finding ones you think would fit you.
Thanks a lot I will look into Kramer tomorrow when I get home.
Have fun
If you have any stores in the area that have them in stock I'd recommend to go and try them just to get the feel of them I have played the Elite never the deluxe.
You would be fine with either though.
question
would it not be more comfortable for you to use your middle finger in the first image
instead of flipping off whoever's in front of you and squishing the fuck outta your hand
Yes for the photo it would have been but was harder to see the shape... Also depends what cord you are coming from if you're switching shapes both will work well.
Also having the middle finger free can be nice to add lower bass notes with if you wanted to
Kris and Guillaume check out Legator Guitars - brandnew at Thomann - and put them up against their competitors Ibanez, Strandberg and Jackson. If you need a new metal axe, maybe they're something for you?
Product used: http://tho.mn/hi98y
We use Triad-Orbit stands for our videos exclusively: http://tho.mn/triad
Interesting bits and pieces:
0:2...
i've mostly just been enjoying the energy of these two lmao
but they do play the legator i was looking at so
A sus-chord is neither minor nor major tho
So its without the major 3rd right?
So an augmented triad
skinwalker chords fr i would never stretch my finger that far to play a chord
Wow I made a cursed cord
A7,maj7(#9,b13)
That's not the image just was messing around
It's written like that because the 7th in the cord is the major 7 so it's notated like that... If I was to flatten the maj7 then it would be written as a Gb⁷sus2(#11)
A G major cord is just noted at G G minor is Gm

What in the jazz guitar is that
Lmfao
Of course my sight reading sucks
This is the same cord
Yeah that's the one I usually play
Good
decided to try out the Archetype Mateus Asato and its sick
there's some awesome presets and its very versatile
It sure is
Anyone know a good cheap amp for playing at low volumes and headphones but sounds good for price
How do you get a lofi guitar tone for guitar? (simmilar to what nik does)
Chorus and delay?
First question how well do you know your 7 cords?
Delay and some reverb also can sound nice.

Chords?
If you're looking for just tone don't worry about it...
Never heard of it
Jk
I'm still pretty new and I personally don't care that much about tone
Fair enough, a lot of lofi music uses 6 cords or 7 cords with b13s ontop... That's a lot of theory for later. A little bit further up is a big conversation on cords if you want to look at any of it.
I'm currently learning some scales (minor and chromatic) but I still have to get used to alternate picking XD
I lokked throught it
Looked*
Also tried some inverted power chords
Learn economy picking with your alternate picking it is a bit confusing at first but is so useful.
Those are fun.
Since I'm a gojira fan
Nice.
I'm assuming you're playing 6 string... if you want I have the 6 scales patterns and how they connect if you want to just look at it I can send a photo in a bit
I have a 8 string but I can mute the 2 other strings
I can send you the 8 string version instead...
Are you normally tuned to EBEADGBE or F# instead of the low E?
Eh
It's complicated
I change tunings pretty regurlarly
I see it as a 6 string and the 2 lowest strings always remain F# and B
Ah okay
Whilst the others might be in drop c or a
But I actually enjoy changing tunings
(I'm overextending, it's fine everything you send, I can change the tuning TLDR)
@blazing flare These should all be correct.
Ty <3
I finished spray painting my guitar what should I do now? The paint is dry but it still goes onto my hands
Clear coat or some sort of clear protective layer... I never had painted any guitars just furniture and that was mainly staining so I can't say too much... really depends what you want the finish to feel and look like.
Something interesting I learned to do well practicing is use warm ups from other instruments that you can play, it can add just add more ways to practice and helps tie all your music knowledge together.
Any tips with tapping
I feel like I try and it generates no noise 💀

My guitar is like £100 and had it for 8 years but only started properly like 2 years ago
And my amp is ight
I have played $350 dollar guitar on like a $50 amp and can tap just fine.
Tapping takes time it's hard.
Waiting on getting a baritone guitar to put in drop E so for now just writing riffs with bass and putting in some drums and production and sounds pretty good so far, lmk thoughs yall
Btw in that clip I’m using my 5-string Dingwall Combustion in Drop A, pitch shifting to Drop E so the strings arent spaghetti
replying to this so i remember to check it out tomorrow
Want me to ping you at 12:00 my time?
Okay
Hi guys, I’m curious how the guitarist from the amity affliction gets this heavy sound even though he’s using a fender Stratocaster. It only has single coils as far as I know, but they sound amazing live too. Is there an extra distortion pedal or can a fender also sound heavy ?
And also they’re pitch shifting to drop E and also double drop C on one song, how can it still sound clean on a strat and thin string gauge ?
He uses 14 to 64s… for reference I use a 70 gauge on my 7 string with a 25.5” scale length for Drop E, so they must be tuning pretty low already. 13-60s will probably get you stably to around B, so 14 to 64 might get them to A standard or so? They’d have to pitch down a 5th from there, but not sure what they actually tune to.
As far as the single coils, they’re actually not, theyre Fender’s noiseless pickups, which are a type of humbucker in the form factor of a single coil. They’re still much spankier than a humbucker but I think they sound good for low tunings more than high tunings.
Yes single coil strats can sound heavy. 'Heavy riffs' have nothing or very little to do with guitar, tuning or pick up, but with song writing most of all amd the interplay of instruments
Guys quick question, my bass fretboard is friggen gross, Im going to restring it but need to clean the grime off. What is the best thing around the house that will not totally destroy the wood that I can use?
I would post a picture but its so embarrassing lol
Fuxk it
A damp cloth I believe is just fine, you can always run out to the nearest guitar store to pickup lemon oil depending on the wood, you can also use a razor blade to scrape off gunk
Maple so a different oil is preferred
Yea typed that before seeing the fretboard
its been sitting for maybe 3-5 years just in a corner neglected af
Just a damp cloth... will be good I mean the razor blade could be helpful for that.
ok, thanks so much @lethal fractal you are super patient and always very helpful! Thank you ❤️
I do my best, always enjoy helping out.
ok boys, i have a really peaky question for you. Right now i don't have an amp. I have a shitty audio interface that can't let me even play with youtube sound at the same time ( yea i tried to solve the problem with a lot of research but nothing worked).
Right now i'm thinking about buying a focusrite 3rd gen 2i2 or a multieffects pedal. Unfortunately i don't have the money to buy both but i can spend like 300€ on a pedalboard (i wouldn't do the same for the interface cause i don't feel that would change much).
I want to know what would be the best for me right now (I only play at home btw).
(also i had a boss katana 100 previously but the metal tone wasn't my cup of tea at all and i don't think i'm the right person to have an amp since i play alone)
Just personal opinion, I recommend the 4i4 over the 2i2 because it has an input pad that's useful for higher output pickups that may cause a 2i2s input to peak
Any recommendations for a 7 string with a Floyd for 1200 usd or under?

Any advice for double tracking guitars? Every time I try to do it it either sounds shit OR I forgot it OR (the worst out of all) after sucessfully double tracking the guitar I just don't feel like continuing anymore 😭
Help me
Practice, practice, practice... Playing to a click and even writing out what you are playing so you can read it well playing can be very helpful from the playing side. Do multiple recordings as well the first take usually isn't the best take.
Playing with the panning to feel what seems best.
I dont think you have to write it out, but you do need to practice and also check how the transients for each side relate to each other. It can only sound shit if you dont play tight and playing tight is a matter of practicing.
You definitely don't need to write it out sometimes can be helpful I find anyways.
Yo I need some help figuring something out with an old electric guitar my great grandpa had Can anyone kinda help I have no idea what it could do I have plans to fix it and learn buried alive but idk if it would be the guitar to learn it on
Would it be a good thing to first just do every guitar part and double track at the end?
Picture?
I'm not home yet I'll be there in like 10 mins Ive been thinking of the guitar all day and needed to figure something out
Ok
I do need to get an amp though
Yeah, looking at $100 or more
Yeah, especially if you get good
Give it 20 years and I will be!
Lol I need an XP potion from Minecraft
😂
your... great grandpa?
Yes
is this guitar from the 30s
No

Look I don't know much my great grandma says it was his and if you argue with her your ass gets kicked
ok i just
wanted to make sure you didn't have like some ancient first generation guitar kickin around
Nah
do you know how often it was played?
Nope
i mean you said great grandpa, my great grandpa was a railworker in the 20s and 30s, so it's fuckin with my head a lil
at any rate the strings are probably relic'd :D
He was born in the 40's I think
Cus he's at least 5 years younger than my great grandma who is around 86
i see
And he passed in 2018 soooooooo idk
well, show us the guitar when you can
Almost home

Paint looks great lol
I realized the amp wires are in there but I also realized mold is in there
Oh, take a q tip and isopropyl alcohol
Probably so they wouldn't break off
😬
Thing still looks nice as hell
Yeah idk why
So definitely need to get new strings and amp and some goddamn lessons oof
my only real worry is the single coil pickup
it's not a major issue but it will produce some hum, or buzz
still a beaut of a relic i'd say
but yeah i'd take it to a guitar shop and see if you can get it set up and cleaned properly
they might be able to figure out whats up with the tuning pegs/locking nuts and get it restrung
Hopefully Im really eager to learn buried alive
It's the best avenged sevenfold song
I can tell you what to do, it's easy as hell
It's good I'll get lessons somewhere
Shit, data is slow, was talking about servicing the guitar
Gotta live data
You can do whatever order you see fit. It doesnt really matter. I tend to double track the parts that need to be double tracked straight away so you get a better feel for the overall sound
And where parts are gonna sit in the mix
Sure!
Anyone have any recommendations for an electric guitar and amp, for my 14 year old niece who wants to learn?
something like that is a pretty good starter i think

but for real tho, your best bet would be to ask in a local guitar centre
there's probably some christmas promotions and such on as well, and a lot of stores have "starter kits" with decent beginner guitars from epiphone, gibson, etc that come with amps
that's how i got started, personally
I'd say a small black star, they're pretty cheap and easy for beginners
Ty both appreciate it.
Np
I got an Ibanez Gio for my first electric guitar, and I have no regrets. Still play that thing from time to time.
i too play an Ibanez Gio but i’d like to upgrade soon
that legator ghost is still looking like my kinda deal i’m ngl

ye but i want the headless, the fanned frets, the longer scale length etc
Yeah that would be sick
and then i can jam some fish man heafers in there
I wanna get some nasguls for my RG
yeah i’m keeping the gio 7 as a project guitar once i upgrade
puttin whatever the hell i can on that bitch
Hell yeah
Would anyone know what would be a good amp for this?
I have one of these they aren't bad, though I'm thinking of putting on a longer neck.
mine’s pretty good it’s the pickups im not convinced with
but for a $300 7 it’s solid
Yea ikr... I just the 25.5 inch doesn't work for drop g all that well, it's white as well so I might do a whole paint job and like replace everything haha.
It was my first guitar and did it's job... it confused the crap out of my guitar teacher as well at first and now here we are doing 9 string goofiness.
I haven't touched mine in months though it's rusting and everything as well... I need to give it some love but I have no interest in it as of now.
I think bernth proves a really good point playing cheap guitars and everything, despite still have very expensive sound equipment and everything equipment doesn't make you better but hours of hours of dedication and practice does... Keep going everyone don't get into your head about you not being able to play well just because of more basic gear.
Based
took a while but i finally got my headrush mx5 (rlly sorry for blurry photo, laptop camera sucks)
Lmao
is 12 gauge strings enough for drop a
depends on a variety of factors
they should hold pretty well
on a 6 string
7 string a bit much
whatup guys, I wanted to ask if someone owns a Digitech Drop and if it is worth buying it
It really appeals to me since i really dont want to buy a new guitar or change strings
I don't personally own one though know many people who do and have played one a couple times.
I like them and think they are nice and can be useful just depends if you need one.
I like modding pedals and working with them, though recently just have been going digital with everything.
I do think the whammy DT is just the best way to go when it comes to all of that though it's expensive but worth it for the quality and everything.
I do have a low budget so I think the drop is enough for me, since I am not a professional too
Yea I have heard about latency issues sometimes happening so it really depends how willing you are able to play with a bit of latency I can't play with more then 15ms or around that drives me nuts but you might be fine with it.
Whammy has neglible latency tbh
I have the whammy DT personally and tbh yes it has latency but it's very small despite being slightly noticable but idk it could be me being used to it and for the tone it alters it a bit but i find it more damaging detuning up rather than down tho
I think I did not properly describe what I mean sorry, I meant the single digitech drop that only tunes down to 7 halfsteps and one octave
The one for 150€
Tuning up make it sound very digital kinda like its a guitar plugin
Its basically the same thing just detached from the whammy part
I think I confused everyone by bringing up the whammy
Playing TBDM riffs and SOI riffs make my arm want to fall off
I have one and it works great. My use case is I play guitar mostly with Rocksmith, so I can easily drop into lower tunings and back between songs. The last two tunings or so (6 or 7) get a bit muddier and some latency, but it's barely noticeable. Very much worth the money if you plan on changing tunings constantly
Does anyone know what drum plugin Nik uses? (In recent videos) His drums always sound friggen wicked!
it's a custom set developed by ashtone
I have the Schecter Damien 9, I find it to be pretty nice, the 30 inch scale length is really good for down tuning
I have the Ibanez RG9PBTGF Axe Design Lab, it has only a 28inch scale length so can't tune as low but I don't tend to need to go any lower then dropping the C# to B and the shorter scale length is suited better for what I play... Though that shecter is also a good option.
i use the dunlop jazz III XL
Jazz III XL variant.
Lol
I used the smaller Jazz III's for a bit but found the XL's more comfortable and nicer for sweeps and string skipping
i need thick picks cuz i hit the strings so hard i tend to bend so much the pick itself lmao
and XL cuz i don't like tiny picks
For acoustic I use whatever between 0.8 amd 0.6
I dont like the tone of thicker picks
i don't have an acoustic so it's not even a question for me
On acoustics
and i have pretty thick strings too mainly on my 7 string with a 12-54 + 74 gauge for drop F#
I mainly will play a Chicken pick that's around 3.5mm or a big stubby... been thinking about trying some sort of those custom picks that are pretty thick.
Those jps for leads, and the teal cats tongue picks for rhythm and playing bass
Sometimes I’ll use a carbon fibre max grip jazz III
A class act all the way right here
I love the XL Jazz III's
They just feel 'right'
i like big stubbies, been using the triangle variant for a while now
i use ernie ball prodigy picks myself
Dunlop Jazz III XL
or any smaller thick pick
with a good grip bc I'm clumsy as shit
@unreal rivet @median hemlock this one
That's what I have.
hot
lol
i’ll take any jazz III
any pick above 1mm really
i think i have that in black
nvm its different
slick
New video

Not to mention this bs
My brain just doesn't work after watching half this stuff.
NGD another ESP joins the family
Ouu
use it on the miku pedal for the ultimate immersive experience
thats fuggin cool
Thank yee
sexy
Is it a gloss or mat finish
It was weird with the image grain made it look rough but then could see the reflection so wasn't sure... Is the neck gloss as well?
Yep. I took other pictures from different angles. But the my reflection kept showing up.
Can’t have people having nightmares tonight
Easy fix don't sleep no nightmares... Awful advice that I did for way to long, go to bed kids nightmares suck but they are better then not sleeping.
Nightmares are fun though
I lucid dream 90% of the time lucid nightmares are the absolute worst I can sometimes create safe spaces and have trained myself have to more and more but they always crumble and you keep running making more and more...
Though lucid dreams can be really fun and you can be very creative and build massive dreamlands and what not kinda cool
It's something you can train yourself to do which is cool
i remember having a lucid dream inside of another dream
this model is a 25.5 inch scale length 7 string, honestly i don’t understand why
i was wondering, i have an orange crush mini and i wanted to buy a ppc108 cab for it then later on i can get the micro terror or micro dark
but for the cab and head it will cost me the same price as a positive grid spark 40
any recommendations or opinions are welcome
anyone else have trouble alternate picking palm muted pedal notes or do I just have massive skill issue?
like I can only downpick them but that limits how fast I can do them
Very guuud
Usually better for newer musicians which I think is the point to the line of guitars... just the frets being closer apart and it still being able to hold B standard tuning well its good for a starter I mean I started on one myself.
ohh
Just a starter guitar they are like $300
Okay folks, I could use some suggestions: Your favorite Double Drop B stuff to play (7 string preferred, could adapt to 8). I´m in the mood for learning some ultra low stuff but dont have too much in my mind to play
How are you tuning your 7 string for double drop B? A lot of the double drop B stuff I know and have played are on a 9 string but that could be also more where I'm directed, just curious how you are tuned for that on a 7...
Ya don't
Pitch shifter
?
Got my guitar tuned to Drop E and then pitch it with my Whammy DT down to Double Drop B
Either I forgot what a double drop tuning means or that's just drop B but down the octave.
I'd recommend just playing some of your favorite 7 string riffs just they would be tuned lower can make for some fun times.
Can alter them a bit and write in some of your own fun sounds that fit the Lower tuning
if you would like to see how awesome it can be gojira does some incredible shit with it
Im pretty sure that's the DT whammy
whoops got them mixed up lmao
double drop b is a bad tuning (opinion)
I usually am tuned to just C# F# B E A D G B E
Or tuned to all 4ths.
Depending on what I'm playing
Double Drop B…on a 7 string
? That tuning is usually meant for a 6 string because it’s “B-F♯-B-E-G♯-B” so wth would the 7th string be?
^
Also not many bands play that tuning. Just Sevendust and Isis on “some” songs
It seems like they are just downtuning to drop B on a 7
But down an octave using a pedal
You mean regular Drop B (B-F♯-b-E-G♯-C♯) but a high F string for the 1st string?
I know one band that utilizes that tuning
He said tuning to drop E then using the pedal for drop B
I'd assume something like this though.
If that’s the case then I’d say play more songs by Unearth!
He would be tuning an octave below what they play in from my understanding of what was being said... Though it wouldn't change much just lower notes, which can start running into issues with power cords sounding to Muddy from lower note limit.
To B0 or like 30Hz I think is what he's tuning to and you have to approach those lower notes very differently.
is that like, a bad thing?
Generally you would want something longer
thats fair
planning on getting this one is it worth or nah
good pick
I mean I would assume it would do everything you would need it to do.
just stumbled on this
$75K seems a bit much tho
My instinct wants to say it's fairly priced but I got no clue how much some of those are worth and sometimes people do charge a lot more then what it's worth.
it should
and it will
Depend how low you downtune. 25.5 is fine for like drop A but lower than that will be a challenge in order to maintain good intonation and tone
i'll only be going to drop g# with .10s
Wouldnt be my decision on a 25.5 but its not terrible.
Id go for the Orange
but cant i get the orange tone from the spark?
they will cost me the same price
also wouldnt a 25.5” scale on a 7 string cause intonation issues?
No, in standard tuning its absolutely fine. Even drop A is good
Thats nice
Drop G was when I started having issues with it and would need thicker strings...
You would but also not really
Ill get the amp and cab then
i usually do drop G on a 7 string
Drop g is swag
agreed
drop g my beloved
im so glad modern trivium songs are a standard so i dont have to fuck with my tuning too much
i'm in drop F# and i love this tuning so much
it's like low while not being too low too
and with it you can play architects songs both the drop B and the "F# ocatve" tuning like in doomsday or hereafter
I just have dumb 9 string sounds... Waiting for my 6 to be out of the shop still
i'd like to let it be known ive downtuned my bass to drop f
this is gonna be fun lol

anyone have any good recommendations for a 5 string bass?
one that can be used for more metal shenanigans
something within 500 dollars in particular
I was looking at some Ibanez options in that range, went to play some at the local store and they felt alright.
maybe i can hit up a local store
does it matter what pick ups are used when it comes to metal stuff? for both bass and guitar?
I usually go to the local guitar senter or sam ash and see what they have, mopst of the guitars off the war are rode hard and put away wet so I try in store and order online lol
if so, what should i be keeping an eye out for?
are you recording an amp or going DI into a ton of software?
di?
like direct input
to record on pc?
forgive me, im not familiar with all of this yet lol
im starting to go harder on it
yes, and its no worry
I think to get started and experiment the SR305 is something to see if you can try at a local store
for $399
noted
I recently just snagged a cheap 7 string from Ibanez and its really quite nice, I have american strats and expensive bs and the cheap $279 7 string gets the job done quite nicely
You def wanna at least go try some stuff in the store see what body shape and neck style you vibe with and then look online
I think its a GRG7221
it was actually $249 lol there is like a QA model that has nicer paint for $279
yep, that's it
Im actually shocked how decent it is
i may need to look into that first
im still gonna get the rga742fm
but you know
this is half the price lol
I acutally bought a Demon 7 used from guitar center and order this one online, I didnt like the bridge on the Demon 7 and returned it lol
The Ibanez cheap-o 7 also has more pick up selections giving you a larger range of tones to use
that's dope
For players like us, its nice that we can experiment with some new instruments for under $500
right
atm i have a 4 string bass i got a few years ago and havent done a whole lot with
mostly been dicking around with drop c
i have a 6 string guitar as well that was given to me for free, but it hadnt been played in years
it's a very cheap one lol
it's an ibanez gio... something
the 5 string or 7 will feel larger at first and some things you kinda have to relearn how to manage the new B string but its nice to have the low boom
im not exactly sure
im okay with that tbh
yea, I used to be able to play some riffs on the 6 that I found myself like wtf why is this so hard now lol
IF were having fun, fuck it, crab stance and chug on!
right
there's all sorts of shit i wanna play but like
98% of it requires a 7 string lol
i could downtune my 6 string i guess but it isnt really made for metal
ive mostly been doing acoustic metal stuff
like the intro to my curse
which is fun to play :)
yep, Im a fan of the Baby Metal riffs and loved Dream Theater and other for many years and I never got a 7 string, Im 38 now and Its like wtf why did you wait should have snagged one when I was 18
I would have more chug power, Im like writing really infantile riffs on the 7 like its a brave new world to have fun with
lmao
I'm saving for a 7 string bass screw 7 string guitar 7 string bass hehe
ohh snap @lethal fractal is the guy to talk to about gear and stuff
tbf when i get around to a 7 string im gonna doing a lot of ignorant chugging over actually meaningful shit LOL
because it's fun
Its the only way lol
I just like talking (I hate it and love it)
hehe
i was pretty much just asking about a good 5 string bass that's under 500 for metal stuffs
grinnelli recommended the SR305E
Oh you changed your pfp I didn't recognize you straight away ^
Fair enough, I always get a goof laugh from your bio
hehe
There aren't enough lockers in my school to do that sadly
Same guitar i have...
we can just make holes in the ground :)
i know they said it was good, but what's your opinion on it?
It's good for drop A or A standard tuning once you get lower it starts getting floppy otherwise good.
The pickups are a bit meh but I actually do like them for pinch harmonics I find they ring really well.
The 25.5 inch scale length is also nice coming from a 6 string as it's usually the same.
alright
sounds like i got a guitar to buy :)
btw, just a general question
when it comes to a guitar that i wanna use for metal stuffs, what should i be looking out for in particular with pickups, the bridge, etc?
and what exactly are gauges? i always hear about them but never bothered to learn
the white is so sexy
It was my first ever guitar and did the job well :)
String gauges are just the thickness of the strings there is a lot of physics behind how it affects the tone and a lot of things... Depends what kind of metal you want to play I would recommend sticking with passive pickups as you probably dont want to try and route a battery compartment and what not...
battery compartment?

Don't worry to much about them for now... I have plenty of passive pickups in my guitars and love them more then my active pickups for some stuff.
alright
sorry if i ask what i assume are simple questions, im still fairly new to this lol
ive got a spark its the best thing ever
my op
I'm to tired to do a big chat and need to get up in 5 hours so need to go to sleep but if you ever have questions I'm someone you can ping and I'll do my best to help I'm more of a jack of all trades type of person and can do a lot of things really well but not perfectly, I know a few people in this server who have much better information gor certain topics though I study a lot of different things and love information and being everyone's library.
No worries, for that 7 string I wouldn't worry about changing anything unless you are having issues only thing I'd recommend changing are the tuners and getting locking tuners... Otherwise focusing on amps and things of that sort would yield better tone.
Making sure you saw this as well :)
No worries always love helping and chatting with the community
right
and ill watch that for sure
danke
Also stick to seven strings I have played and owned a few 8 strings and now onto 9 string guitars and you start running into so many issues and just it's super specialty stuff 7 string I think is the sweet spot nowadays string are an addiction as well... I want to get a 10 string and have ideas for what to write but 9 string is a pain in the butt to try and record and get good tone. If you want lower grt a baritone 7 string the rest is specialty stuff in my opinion.
Also this video is on the topic of the guitar we are talking about...

If you can make sure it has a return policy incase you end up not liking it
Ill have to import it from germanyto india
Yea might be hard to get the policy though I would hope most places would offer it.
Hmm
Cuz it will take about a month to get here
Ima check rq
30 day money back guarantee
Is that after delivery
No usually that's after receiving it... Also just generally recommend record yourself opening the box incase it does come broken
i strongly recommend buying one
Thats a must
Ill buy one soon, need to save up a bit more
Theres no real limits. Any guitar and almost any pick up can be used for metal. It really depends on taste and preference. If you change tuning a lot, dont go for a floating bridge. If you play heavily downtuned amd distorted music generally higher output pickups are better suited because they tend to boost the uppermids
Depending how far you downtune scale length is something to take into account, but other than that its completely up to your liking!
I completely disagree, if you want to be metal you can only have 8-string Ibanez, Jackson, Ernie Ball, or BC Rich and the only pickups you can ever use are Seymour Duncan, if you use fishman you’re a poser or smth idk
really what you want to look out for is how it feels and looks for you specifically
you could totally use an Epiphone, Stratocaster, Squier etc for metal
or you could use an Ibanez or a Jackson or a Schecter
it’s all up to personal preference really
Ooo that looks sick
I’m looking into this exact model lol
We are all going to own one
Pings everyone trying to get the whole server to own one and start an army
Nice
I almost bought a Larada Legion which are the Korean manufactured Larada's, but quality control is apparently not fantastic and especially for the dough that you have to smack down I expect a prestine instrument
With Ernie Ball Music Man thats a given but even a bit more expensive too
I almost bought a Strandberg but than I tried one and was utterly dissapointed
Its the neck. Also the ridiculous price when most of their lines are produced in Indonesia
i mean i figured that’d be why
The neck is a subjective thing
it’s just such a strange dichotomy when other guitar manufacturers with similar products don’t have quite a reputation
like i’ve never seen someone be neutral or lukewarm on strandberg
it’s either “the best thing ever” or “absolute shit”
Yeah, so Strandbergs are considered high end guitars but they do have quite some qc issues
