Hey, I’ve got a question about tuning and string tension. I always wanted to play in a low tuning but also being able to play the higher notes, architects alternate tuning really speaks to me, but I’ve only got a 6 string with a 25.5 scale and the string gauge for the lowest string is not tight enough. Should I set it up or just simply buy a 7 string ?
Actually don’t wanna set up my 6 string cause there’s no turning back to higher tunings. Or maybe I’ll just buy a drop pedal man I don’t know

And if you change tunings you always need to set up your guitar unless its from standard to drop D. Than you can get away with it, but other than that a set up of the guitar is basically mandatory

How can I get faster on guitar ?
Practice with a metronome and find your limit of bpm. Practice on that limit and if you make mistakes go slightly lower and than up again. Its the most effective way and the way thats actually beneficial for making music. Without metronome its no use really.
What metronome should I start at?

There is a point where you just cant play a chord on the lower register of a heavily downtuned guitar without it sounding shit by definition

i apologize for the newbie question, is post-hardcore & metalcore almost always downstrokes? or should i be also focusing on practicing my upstrokes too.. i want to make my own post-hardcore & metalcore instrumentals someday..
Learn it both ways, that way if your hand gets fatigued from only doing downstrokes you can alternative pick and still carry on

hey all, i can hear my guitar in the standalone neural dsp programs but i cant hear them in reaper. any help ? got the audio input correct and record armed it but still no sound
Are you getting signal to that track still?
Do you have monitoring turned on?
Had the same issue.
Check whether Reaper is actually getting a signal, if not you need to change the input in the track. Your interface will have more than one input, gotta select the right one.
If you're still having issues, check the audio driver Reaper uses, that might cause trouble with the sound and synchronisation.

these settings were fine. idk what happened but when i opened reaper after some time, it wouldnt play anymore

Because you're going to get huge latency
When you're using the asio driver the audio will be sent and received from the focusrite, so you won't be able to monitor it through your PC speakers.
You'll need to have some speakers/headphones plugged into the focusrite to heard it

Definitely keep trying, but make sure you are learning your scales and different positions on the neck.

What effect are people using to make it sound like the guitar cuts in and out? I hear people like berries alive and that style using it. But when I watch I don’t see them hitting any switches so I’m lost lol
Some people have whats called a killswitch, which kind of looks like a circle that's on the guitar, but as far as production goes as well, you can edit the music so that it "cuts in and out"

One of the guitars where each pickup has it's own volume knob, turn one all the way down and then just use the pickup selector to mimic a killswitch

Yo guys, I recognized I have string buzzing from the 1th to maybe 8th fret. My neck looks straight tho and there’s enough space between the fretboard and the string. I once also brought it to guitar center and they did a total set up from cleaning, to new strings and adjusting. How can I fix this ?
Neck needs to have a bit of a bow though. Otherwise your action is too low @prime sapphire
You can check with a feeler gauge on the 8th fret. It might even be that your neck has too much relief if the buzz is on the lower frets, but a little bit of buzz is fine/normal

Is the buzz coming through the amp? If not then I wouldn't worry too much unless it's choking the notes.
If it's doing it on all frets then like Don said, sounds like the neck relief needs adjusting. I'd always be cautious of getting the staff at a music shop to do it because I don't know how much guitar tech stuff they know. Take it to a proper luthier if you can

You mean shapes? Than no. My philosophy on 'practicing' scales is that it should be about figuring out the intervals yourself based on the scale formula and not too much on shapes.
I think on an 8 string the only problem is maybe the low f# since a normal tuned 6 string already has a B string.
If you wanna learn shapes my advice would be to treat the F# just seperately if you got the scale on a 7 string and 6 string down it should be easy enough. Its the same how I approach a drop tuned guitar
I don't use shapes well I do but they are based on just the intervals... I just want some print out though that flows that I can use to practice, yes I could spend the time figuring it all out and writing them out myself just been lazy, same with arpeggios and string set triads... I'll probably just work it out with my guitar teacher later on.
I always have the F# dropped to E sometimes will have the B dropped to A so figuring out the 5 scales and how they can connect for those two tunings would be what I need to do then can work on the other stuff.
Not sure if that makes sense or what not...
Dropping the F sharp to E does but dropping the F sharp to E and the B to A seems a bit strange to me 🥲

If we want to talk about weird looking tunings, I'm currently learning a song that's tuned to G Bb F Bb Eb G C it looks super strange but isn't all that weird.

It sure can, music theory is also amazing and jazz cord theory and all of that has been really really useful for me. As well today me and my guitar teacher figured out the 5 scale patterns and how they all connect on my 8 string guitar, as well like the dumbasses we are we figured it out in drop E tuning

Natural harmonics have to do with the harmonic series. Physics stuff. Just has to do with dividing the string evenly to create different wave forms
12, 7, and 5 most common because they're simple to find. Dividing by 2, 3, 4 respectively
Yes, the frets aren't always the perfect spot for how it's divided but can be close, I have never seen tabs being that technical though kinda neat.
GP tries to approximate the real location. Think hand written tabs usually will just say <6> but guitar pro will auto-correct it to 5.8
5.8 is the second node if divided by 7ths

one has the drop petal + the original whammy
the one that has the expression pedal on the middle has what the 1st one has, on it's left and on it's right it's the drop pedal
and you can combine the effects of both sides

They both tune up and down but in different intervals. The DT has a pitchshifter going up and down 8 semitones whereas the whammy only has select shift settings. If you want to use it to change tunings all the time you´re probably better off witth the DT, if it´s just alien noises the pure Whammy should do it
I dont know where the price is at but the DT is definetly worth it. The pitchshifter is insane and is literally my greatest blessing.

You will need amp sim software for that, but once you have that, than yes you can.
Theres some free stuff out there thats pretty decent.
Than you can plug in your guitar into your audio interface, start up the amp sim and just jam. You can also use it in your audio recording software.
And if you wanna spend some money, I'd say Neural DSP is very good. Also Amplitube 5 is considered very good

Yeah.
If by connect you mean just selecting the right input in the software itself than yes. Its really simple if you just have the stuff, you will figure it out in no time. Guitar goes into interface and than on the computer you start up the software...if you dont hear anything just check the input in the software and make sure you select your interface.

Yep, just make sure to select the right output in the software
Often it does so automatically but if its not working you might need to adjust that

Yes and no, when you're using an Audio Interface with a DAW you have to select the ASIO Driver for your AI. If you're on a Windows machine what this means is your computer audio will be outputting to the Audio Inferace so you'll need your speakers plugged into that.
If you're just using the Amp Sim on it's own I think it just comes through your normal PC Speakers. - don't quote me on this last part though as I've not used an amp sim independently outside of a DAW.

i was looking at this pedal, but i'm on the fence cause i'm not sure if it can be hooked up to an audio interface and used with something like NeuralDSP
i do have a physical amp if it can't, but it's a spider v30 and i feel like trying to put a distortion pedal on that is just gonna make it sound worse

my pick ups on my active pick up guitar will randomly be picking up lots of white noise and my passive pick ups come up extremely thin. Could it be a scarlet/audio interface issue or a cable issue?
Best guess is you're either using a speaker cable instead of instrument cable by accident, or there's a weird issue with the input gain on your interface
So.... my buddy got a guitar today. He has two "dead" frets.... 4 on D and 5 on high E... what is the problem here? How can this be fixed?

Depending on the situation, raising the action might help, but if the action isnt that all too low, you might need a truss rodd adjustment. The dead frets are a bit on a weird spot tbh. The neck could also be slightly warped.
Also, it's possible if it's just those to frets on different strings for the frets to not be fully seated and just need a bit of a tap.
Either way if they're not confident with it, then take it to a luthier/tech
I'm super confused... This is my first time having active pickups so I don't know if this is normal, it seems like when I have the pickup selector set to the neck pickup my bridge pickup will be picking up when my phone is close to it but not when it's close to the neck pickup and when set to the bridge pickup it does the opposite I the neck would pick-up interference but not the bridge. Not sure if this is normal or if it got wired backwards.
As well when set to the neck it is much more crunchy and when set to the bridge pickup it has a lot of bass and not so much of the high end or middle.
Which I thought the opposite was supposed to happen so I'm just curious if they are backwards

Guys any possibility on me?: String tension is way too tight for shredding, most of phrases are muffled and it's kind of difficult to do bends. My current string gauge is 10-52 in drop D, is there another option but change strings to 9-46?

That's the point but it has different tone then guitar so the basses will sometimes take the lead roles with the 7 string guitar and they will be the main main lead guitar... and the two 9 string players we will be in the background... It's a really crazy concept I'm working on.

Thats an essential part of the bridge. Your guitar will simply be out of tune across the neck, since you miss an intonation saddle.

That wrench is too big for the screws you use to lower the action
The two small screws on the saddles of the bridge you lower or raise those for action... you might need to check your neck out as well, possibly even your nut depending on where it's high and a bunch of other things.
The wrench might fit your trust rod and would be used for that, though if it's not all the string then could be something with the saddle heights.
So this one is responsible for the alignment of the neck?
The job for that is to tighten or loosen a screw, if it fits in your trust rod then you can use it for that purpose if it doesn't fit then you will need to find one that fits.
Though from the sounds of it you aren't trying to adjust your neck so it's probably the saddles that need adjustment.

If you don't know what you're doing when it comes to guitar set-up I'd recommend taking it to a music store or a luthier to set it up for you.

Yes there is a tool for the different sized and shaped screws your guitar has, there isn't a special Hex key though specifically made for your guitar as long as it fits it will work.

Depends on the model and brand. Generally you should check your set up. Action is often higher than it can be
Its also good to check the neck relief. Especially when ordered online and you didnt do it in store
Factories have a tendency to do a proper set up on their higher end models and bum out on the rest
Do a factory reset when you get it home to make sure it's in it's default state and not been tweaked (if it's been on display). And yes you can plug headphones into it. I have the head version.
