#Adventure Jam 2023

You can see your review score but not any comments unless it's your page. To see your score click on the media information thing on your page and hover over the stars. Pretty lame. BUt you can ean get your score that way.
And fwiw I think getting like 10-20 ratings in a short time (day or so?) will boost you on Itch. Last year when Stowaway was in a lull, I asked a bunch of dev friends to 5-star me. Got about 15. Within a few hours the game was on the front page under the "Fresh Games" or something and it got a bunch of page views and downloads. So I'm not sure if it's algorithmic or hand curated, but it was interesting.
yeah I'm right this 100% works. Look on the front page under "Fresh Games". i see Dead Hand, Alignment Paradox and No Rest for the Wicked. These weren't there a day ago when I did the review push and we all jumped on each others' games.
SEO from the GEO(rgeb)!
good to know, I never ask for reviews/ratings but it seems like it's vital for visibility
Very good to know! Will ask for more ratings as well. I've only got 300 downloads though so I think it is still a combination of lots of downloads and good ratings. But it's so awesome seeing so much success for everyone and for the Powerhoof team.
I must be doing something very right lol. I just noticed I got almost all 5 and 4 star ratings, but 3 one star ratings on my game during the judging period... that's some serious hate and jealousy I think haha. Harsh but super happy I managed to get under someone's skin that much ๐ Now they can watch me keep improving and building and just hopefully be seething every time there are gains ๐คฃ
When is the next adventure Jam does anyone know? I'm already keen as mustard...
Yeah I got at least 1 one/two star ratings in the jam as well. It wouldn't surprise me if some people just try to boost their own game by giving 1 star to the more popular games. Either that or some people just hate point & clicks ๐
I noticed about 10 fake accounts with unplayable entries as well so I think someone is gaming the system. Well played if they allow it.
There is Vance's $107 adventure game challenge in September: https://itch.io/jam/107-adventure-game-challenge
Sounds like it's more strict about the genre, so doesn't get all those non-adventure game entries.
I think Adventure Jam should do the same to keep it more manageable.
I agree, but in the end the majority rules so it's really just someone wasting their time overall. It's a free game jam ๐
It would crush some devs though who worked hard and only got 5 votes and 2 or 3 of those were 1 star... I feel bad for those people it is a pretty harsh game their playing
Yeah it sucks if that's what people are doing. I think keeping the genre more limited and also having a specific theme could help to ged rid of the fake entries.
I guess that's why Vance's jam has only ~20 entries and advjam has 300+
And we get more active with games entered on the first day of the jam that don't work etc. Obvious fake entries. The problem is I'm so time poor at the start of the jam I'm not able to really look at these things until it's too late
I'll check out this September jam then if I can get some time off work, that will be awesome thanks Dan
I think I might be on holiday for the first week so probably won't be able to join. ๐ข
Well good to have a holiday anyway ๐ฅณ
I hope to be done with Arthur Flabbington because I don't want to miss Vance's jam, I already did last year when I was a judge
Being a judge was cool but I prefer making games
I might see if I can spend the first week just planning/writing while on holiday, and then see what I can do in one week! ๐ฌ If I plan for no voice acting, and keep the scope tight, maybe I could manage it.
I love that! Even planning rooms layout, chars, conversations etc... will save a lot of time, as long as you get time to relax too ๐
on my first jam ever back in 2020 I spent the first four days just designing and planning, and it turned out fine ๐ I guess you can still try - also I don't think any of the top contenders in last years ever got voice acting
Yeah I always spent longer than a lot of others designing at the start of the jam
Hey @grim monolith , congrats on Telwynium book 3 being featured

We met this guy Spencer Hayes at GDC ages ago when we were making crawl and he now does itch features/community stuff so he's often nice and features our stuff ๐ https://twitter.com/spnkr
Pretty awesome they put that effort in tbh!
Itch has a youtube channel? I didn't know
That's ok. Most people don't know about Itch itself ๐
Made a little retrospective video.
