You'll need gold to obtain any roles -- the first one you should get is Bounty Hunter, as it is the only role that rewards gold.

From a business standpoint, it's unwise to devote resources for something that's going to be a loss.

Other than that, do stranger missions and do all the dailies that you can. Each daily gives .10 gold (so 10 dailies = 1 gold bar), and the rewards multiply every 7 days if you do at least one per day.
