Either the stats will mimic whatever upgrades you put on the weapon prior, or it automatically equips max upgrades. I always purchased max upgrades before buying a variant, so it could be one or the other.

I mostly enjoy the process of tracking animals down and learning about them just by hunting them, because I learned that while it's harder to kill cougars by setting up bait than other animals if you look hard enough you'll find them stalking other prey (in the campaign)

AFAIK, the best thing to do is to spawn in a low population density area so the griefers can't spawn-kill you, then switch into solo lobby asap.

Don't worry about "good" saddles early on; anything works. But I'd say invest in a chestnut Arabian. It's a solid starter horse that'll serve you well for a while.

I am trying to make the Special health cure tonic, I have plenty of English Mace, and Yarrow. I need Ginseng. I have loads of American and Alaskan ginseng, I cant seem to figure out where the other ginseng is.. My guess is you can only loot that herb?

other ones i constantly use are iron lung for more defence, live for the fight regenerates dead eye slowly so you dont have to keep buying tonics for that, peak condition for more damage, eye for an eye for more dead eye regen by getting headshots and strange medicine which regens health when you hit enemies

the rest are really only for pvp which you shouldnt bother with untill you are higher level

from my experience, all weapons are really well balanced

one might have more damage but other will fire faster or have better reload etc

just go with the one you feel comfortable with

you wont be at a disadvantage whatsoever

i personally use mausers, way more fun for me to play with than revolvers

but yeah navies are for sure the best looking revolvers

I love the Schofield's with the bounty hunter variant and Lemats with bounty hunter variant... Personally I run Lemats or dual wield the sawed off shotguns with the trader variant. its pretty neat looking too.
