It's 10 minutes or so from what I've noticed, and yes you can leave and do anything that doesn't involve loading, so no series, moonshiner sale, etc

The first time I went hunting with a treasure map I got ambushed by a bunch of gang members afterwards and it was super immersive, like they'd been stalking me for the treasure.
