YouTube is a good place to learn about all the roles. If I started over, it would be in this order: Collector is good for learning the map and money, trader is a lot of fun, then moonshiner - then naturalist. Through bounty hunter in there according to your play style.

an award i just got

a notification i got at the top left of my screen

and the dialogue by the dude who was at the prison wagon

however, the very next screen where it shows whether you turned them in alive

it said 6 alive

whats even weirder is R* doesnt treat player bounties the same way, the dialogue is like they are completely alive, nothing counts toward dead bounties award with no notification and the result screen says player turned in alive if knockout
