Could someone explain the basics of rdo to me? I keep seeing all this talk about roles in the game and ranks and such, and I'd like to know a bit more about how all that works before I dive in and start playing

For sure: game dumps you into free roam after an intro story mission with basically nothing. Up to you what to do from there. Highly recommend doing all the story missions at least once (yellow markers on map) - good way to get money and gold and level up while super new and saving for first role. There are also competitive free roam missions and events you can join to earn $$ and gold, and some telegram missions you can get from a post office or your camp box.

Each "role" costs gold to unlock, usually between 10-25 bars, and each is a specific type of play style and/or series of missions rabbit-hole down into. They all offer different types of play, different perks and bonuses, different payouts, and unlock different items and abilities. Each role also has its own ranking system, from level 1-20 or 1-30 to facilitate unlocks and prestige.

People usually choose Bounty Hunter as their first role because it's the only one that pays out gold, allowing you to unlock the other roles quicker. That's it in a nutshell.

You should enjoy this then. There are a dozen or so "story missions" but your character doesn't talk and they're not deep at all compared to single player. Another couple narrative missions unlock when you get the Moonshiner role. Otherwise, the experinece is basically what you make it, ambient or focused as you desire!

The story missions if you do them for the first time get you quite a bit, and then.. probably treasure maps

Definitely the first role you should get is the bounty hunter, because if you wait out the timer until there is like 30 seconds left and then turn the target in, you get around 0.32 gold per mission I think it was

I'm with ya, it's a tedious role. But an XP MONSTER role even without the double xp bonus, so 3000xp per set might make it worth doing. Or just keep collecting without selling anything until you have 100+ sets and pull in that 300,000xp (and all the insane six figure cash that comes with it)

It's one of those quirky (weird) games where it pays you more the longer you wait. 12 min is optimum if you plan to replay over and over in rapid succession so it stacks up, but 30 min is the max payout possible. Long story short: do 12 min if you plan to spam the mission, do 30 min if you're only gonna do it once.

like how do I start making some good money thats beginner/solo friendly

i'd say start with free roam missions with good honor levels. u can check the honor of every mission by pressing space. once you've reached about $50 u can spend the money on a semi beginner friendly horse (morgans, kentucky saddler etc) if you'd like. there are some free weapons in the catalogue which u can open by holding J. also, if u ever stumble upon an animal u want to hunt u can aim at the animal then press Q to see what weapon u need in order to kill it cleanly, 3 stars means its a perfect animal, 2 is good and 1 star is poor so u dont have to bother killing them, but once u have killed them u can sell them as a side hustle whilst ure doing missions

also frequently go to the post office because sometimes u can be offered treasure maps or telegrams where u can do hardcore work for plenty of money

also the free roam missions usually come from the strangers icon which u can find in the index (open map and press space)

if u need any advice in anything just lmk :P once u get the hang of it its really fun

I got these bummy ass default clothes no camp no horse

I just started but I can tell you what’s helped me bcuz it was rlly rough at first

So the story missions eventually get you maybe 40-50 then you get a massive bump to 100-300

There are also the telegrams which can make you up to 50 dollars

I think if you play call of arms to the end you get a couple hundred and some gold

Oh and treasure maps from leveling up!!

What kind of updates would you guys like to see come to rdr2 online? Personally I would like to see some simpler stuff like more horses/wagons and online events/mini games like the race series aswell as 2 potential mini rolls/1 normal role, my role ideas being "birdwatching"(naturalist but birds lol) aswell as a fishing role that is basically the same thing as naturalist aswell. I also believe they should add the rest of the offline horse skins in online (I want a buttermilk buckskin so bad I don't even care about the brindle Arabian) aswell as more wagon's without normal uses, like the race wagons and the goofy taxi wagons ppl roleplay with, I think people would appreciate those being accessible threw buying so they don't have to worry about the one they stole despawning lol,and with that I think you should be able to hook up your hose to your wagon! (I know in normalcy this would probably pose issues but if it's purely a cosmetic thing which is what I want, I don't believe it would.) And with both of those, I think wagon races would be super freaking dope to add to the game

And they already have like 2 offline horse skins in online they just aren't purchase able for some reason, buell and Arthurs horse Boadicea

I want someone else's opinion on this. I was doing a resupply mission when this guy shows up and kills me. I didn't think much of it but then he did it again. We fight but what's weird is he's level ten. I'm lvl 140 and having trouble killing this dude yet he's getting headshot after headshot not missing at all. He has the lowest rank for dead eye and no other abilities. I have fool me once maxed out along with winning streak and peak condition. Ya'll think he's using cronus zen or something?

I put that into account but even pros can miss head shots. He was not missing at all. Even behind cover he'd snap back out and get a head shot in less that a second.
